I have an IBM Thinkpad and it isn’t reading my hard drive. It says to replace it but I have no clue how to do that. Also, what do I need to get the system back up and running once it is installed? What program do I need?
Thanks!

If you follow the link I provided above you will find step-by-step hard drive replacement instructions for some IBM laptops. To restore the operating system on a new hard drive you have to use a set of restore CDs. Put the restore CD into the laptop and boot the laptop from the CD/DVD drive. Follow the instructions. Some IBM laptops have these CDs; some come with a special recovery partition on the hard drive. If you do not have these CDs I guess you can call to IBM and buy CDs from them.

Hello, I have an HP laptop and was wondering if I can use my hard drive that was in my gateway(they are the same shape and fit) with my hp, and use my gateway recovery cd on this hp?

Heather Boreman,
Most likely you can use the hard drive from your Gateway on HP laptop but you cannot use the recovery disc. You’ll have to find original HP restore disc or install OS from a generic XP/Vista CD.
