Here are the links for Toshiba Tecra 8000 and Tecra 9000 FRU (Field Replaceable Unit Documentation). It’s very useful if you want to take your laptop apart. I’m not sure how long these links would be “alive”. These files are in PDF format. When you click on the link, the PDF file should open in a new window. If you have a slow Internet connection it might take some time to download the file.

Toshiba Tecra 9000 (size 5.0MB)

Please let me know if these links are dead, I’ll delete the post.

Kenneth, test the memory module or try replacing it with a good memory stick.

Have a Tecra 8000 and replaced the main battery less than a year ago. It was charging and running perfectly. All of a sudden – when I would turn the Laptop on it would start-up for about 2-seconds then shut down. If I remove the batter and then reinsert it – it will start up as normal. However when charging – (not in use) the connection seems to be lost after some period of time (all by itself) so the battery may not fully charge. Is there an internal battery that may be dead (CMOS or other) – so as it does not remember that a battery was connected?
    Much appreciated.

    Hey Al,
I would try to upgrade or re-flash the BIOS just in case. May be it got corrupted and cannot manage the fan properly. The next step would be replacing the fan.

The cooling fan in my Toshiba Tecra 8000 quits running shortly after boot-up. Ultimately the CPU heats up with resulting program failure. I’m certain the fan runs; it goes without noise on boot up and when I blow into the housing it spins, but it won’t run on its own.
Is there a software patch I can use? Any recommedations regarding part replacement?

I left my Sony laptop for repair in local BestBuy store 2 months ago (I can fix it myself but I bought a warranty, as I always do) and it is still there. So 30 days turnaround time sounds to me as a good deal. :)
If you can fix this laptop yourself, you have parts for it and it is not under warranty anymore then I would go for it. Otherwise, I would prefer to send it to the manufacturer.

I have a comment. Or should I say question. I just purchased an AVERATEC notebook. I worked on one last week and I liked it. But the Manufactor says they have no schematics, no service manuals, nothing but operators guides. They do all of the servicing overseas. It takes about 30 or more days to send it or get it back. I fix everthing myself, so that is not a problem. But, what do you do in this case?
