Here are the links for Toshiba Tecra 8000 and Tecra 9000 FRU (Field Replaceable Unit Documentation). It’s very useful if you want to take your laptop apart. I’m not sure how long these links would be “alive”. These files are in PDF format. When you click on the link, the PDF file should open in a new window. If you have a slow Internet connection it might take some time to download the file.

my Tecra 8000 does not even turn on. Anyone know what could possibly be the problem. The battery pack seems just fine.

A,
First I would try reinstalling the operating system. This might be a software related problem.

I have a TOSHUBA TECRA 8000 and it will only start up in safe mode or safe mode with network. Can somebody tell me how to fix it so it will start up regularly? Also, the internet doesn’t work (can somebody help me with that too?)!

I have a Tecra 8100 that I recently picked up.. everything seems fine except the LCD screen is rather sloppy.. has over an inch of play. Is this a hinge adjustment, or do the cover hinges need to be replaced?
In either case, are there specific instructions anywhere on how to fix this?

Nate,
I’m not sure witch part you are asking about, but here’s a part number for the whole top cover assembly. P000257720
Not sure, but I think you’ll have to replace the bottom base assembly. That’s a lot of work because you’ll have to take apart the whole laptop. Here’s the part number for the base assembly (bottom cover) P000257710
I think that’s the only choice, unless you buy a secondary battery pack for use in SelectBay. PA2451UR or PA2451URN.

Guy Madgwick,
Try booting the laptop in Safe mode and try to login as Administrator. It’s possible that admin account has no password at all.

My Tecra 8000 (Part# PAT800U-KB51) is missing the plastic see-through cover to the SelectBay drive light (LED light on the far right of the System indicator panel). The light works, though. Can I obtain a replacement cover or remove one from another unit and install it? What is the procedure entailed?
In addition, someone broke the security lock slot and a crack in the plastic extends into the underside of the battery compartment. Will it require replacement of the entire plastic piece that includes much of the underside of the unit and the sides of the laptop? What is the Part No. of this piece?
Finally, is there a better aftermarket Li-Ion Battery pack replacement unit that works better and lasts longe for this model other than the Toshiba PA2510U R and compatible manufacturedt byToshiba? … Or are you limited to what Toshiba puts out for this unit? If so, what is the best model # battery pack replacement that’ll stand up the best and perform the longest? What guidlines would you follow in buying a new and/or used battery pack replacement for an older model such as this in order to ensure the greatest customer satisfaction without ending up with another lemon battery?
