I have a dell 700m.. My speaker wires broke recently and i took it apart. I turned it on to test everything got excited and put everything back with out turn it off… As i was screwing in the inverter board the screw driver accidenty touch the inverter board and my lcd went dark. If u look closely you can see the icons and background aim etc but the backlamp isn’t lighting up…

do i need to just replace the inverter board or the whole lcd?

    Hi-

I have an Inspiron 2100 notebook. The small power connector has snapped off at the back- leaving a small, flush, tight piece left inside.

Any clue on how to remove it? I tried digging it out with tweezers but there’s no real place to grab onto. I can’t tell if there’s more to get into if I disassemble it? Really do not want to do that, if possible…

    Help?

    Heidi Wood,
Now test the hard drive. Download and run the Hitachi’s drive fitness test , you’ll find the link in Resources in the sidebar. This problem could be related to a faulty hard drive.

    Heidi Wood,
I think it can be a software related problem. Can you boot the laptop in Safe mode?
Turn on the laptop and press F8 before the laptop starts booting into Windows. Try using Last Known Good Configuration option, it might help.

Hello, I have a Dell 8600 laptop and last week it asked if I wanted to restart it…so I did! Well, it turns on fine, but when the screen should pop up asking if I would like to get on my side of the computer, or my father’s, mother’s, or even brother’s side of the computer…that screen never pops up…it remains a black screen, even though my laptop is still turned on! HELP!

    Robin,
It’s hard to guess what is wrong. Try removing some devices such as hard drive, DVD drive, wireless card and see if it makes any difference and you can get video. Try reseating the RAM module, move it from one slot to another.
Remove the battery and try starting the laptop from the AC adapter, without the battery installed.
