Thanks so much cj. I will try out the memory first before going to the video card!

Teresa,
Yes, it could be a video card related problem. But it’s also could be a memory related problem.
I would test this laptop with a known good memory first, it might help.
Replacing the video card is not difficult if you have some laptop repair experience. But it’s hard for people without experience. Just in case, here’s a link to the disassembly manual. Click on the system board link and then go to the step 6 (video card removal).

Teresa,
What doesn’t it mean “it starts up but then nothing”? Does the laptop have video on start up and then the screen goes blank or you have no video at all?

I have a dell inspiron 2650 and it does not turn on. It starts up but then nothing. The adaptor works fine. I contacted dell and the tech support had said it most likely is the Video Card. I want to know if anyone else thinks this might be the problem as well?? If so is it hard to replace myself??

jc007,
I don’t know. There is no way to find out what is wrong unless you either install a known good inverter board or test the laptop with a known good backlight lamp. I recommended replacing the inverter board because it’s much cheaper and easier then replacing the backlight lamp.
You can find a new inverter board here for $30-35.
This is just my guess.

I have a dell 700m.. My speaker wires broke recently and i took it apart. I turned it on to test everything got excited and put everything back with out turn it off… As i was screwing in the inverter board the screw driver accidenty touch the inverter board and my lcd went dark. If u look closely you can see the icons and background aim etc but the backlamp isn’t lighting up…
do i need to just replace the inverter board or the whole lcd?

Hi-
I have an Inspiron 2100 notebook. The small power connector has snapped off at the back- leaving a small, flush, tight piece left inside.
Any clue on how to remove it? I tried digging it out with tweezers but there’s no real place to grab onto. I can’t tell if there’s more to get into if I disassemble it? Really do not want to do that, if possible…
Help?
