I tried to find another hard disk and reinstalling the operating system. It worked only for five hours. After five hours the Hard disk was not detected again. I checked the hard disk and it was dead. I do not know what makes the hard disks to die. Is it concerned with circuit problems or BIOS?
I do not know whether there is internal/output error.
Please I still need your help with my DEll B120 laptop.

Elineema Mndeme,
The hard drive plugs directly into the motherboard. If the laptop cannot see a known good hard drive, then most likely there is something wrong with the motherboard or with the BIOS.
- check if the hard drive is detected by the BIOS
- make sure the hard drive is good, run the hard drive test
- try reinstalling the operating system
- make sure that the hard drive is properly connected to the motherboard
- try upgrading the BIOS

Chris,
Could be some kind of connection issue. You can open up the laptop and try reseating the video cable connectors first.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3800 that has somewhat loose hinges. If you move the lid at all while it’s open the display will flicker. It also flickers when booting up but stops after it’s been running a bit. I will try attaching a monitor to it, but this sounds like the display cable needs to be replaced. The hinges are strong but have about an inch of free play from the top of the display. Does this sound like a cable issue to you?
Thanks

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 8600. I have been having problems with a blue flashing screen at startup. It seems to start ok until right after the screen that says DELL is about to switch. It then goes to a complete black screen for about 5-10 seconds and then the blue flashing screen comes up. There is writing on the screen, but it is quite difficult to read because you only get to see it for a milisecond. I did make out “memory dump”. And there seems to be something about a driver, but I am not sure what else is going on. Anyway, I then hold down the power button to turn it off and wait 20 seconds or so and turn it on. Sometimes (most of the time) it boots normally and everything is great, but other times it takes 4 or 5 times to restart it before it goes on to Windows XP. Could anyone help me? I am in law school, so this computer is VERY important right now. Thanks

Joe,
I would check the memory first. Try reseating the memory modules, clean the contacts and test the laptop again.
