    Elie,

What are the chances that it is the inverter that caused my dell b130 screen to go dark ? The laptop is about 4 years old. Where do I find instructions to take the inverter out of the screen ?

If your LCD screen is dark but you still can see a very dim image, replacing the inverter board can help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 which can not be directly powered by its adapter nor the battery is charging. the adapter had bare wires and i believe they could of touched each other and probably caused a short. At first i thought the adapter went bad so i bought a new one and the battery is still not charging nor the computer is running off of the adapter. The only way to currently use this laptop is to charge the battery through another laptop. I also checked the new adapter on another laptop and it is working fine. I am wondering if i could of burnt a fuse / regulator that i can change out. any help is appreciated.

Does any one have a MB out of an Inspiron XPS (Gen 1) that can look at a transistor and tell me the numbers on it? It is marked as PQ4 in white lettering and is located on the RAM (bottom side of the board, about 1 inch in from the back of the large USB port.

    Lila,

it starts with a blinking cursor and then the DELL screen and after hitting the F2 for the setup, I still get the blinking cursor.

What if you remove the hard drive and try entering the BIOS setup after that? Can you enter the setup menu with the hard drive removed?

    Ken,

I have a Dell Latitude D510 which can not be directly powered by its adapter neither can its battery be charged.

I think your problem can be related to the power jack - the socket in witch you plug the power adapter. If the power jack is broken, the motherboard will not get power from the adapter and will not charge the battery. If that’s the case, you’ll have to disassemble the laptop and take a closer look at the power jack. If the jack is broken or not making good connection with the motherboard, you’ll have to resolder or replace the jack.
