I have a dell xp 140 that just lost power recently. I noticed that when you plug in the power adapter, it makes the green light on the adapter go out. Any guesses as to what’s draining the power?

I have a Dell E1705 and recently opened the case up out of curiosity (It’s long past warranty and falling apart anyway). I made sure to re-connect everything, but now it will not start up at all. The “power” light will turn on and the hard drive begins to spin for all of five seconds before shutting off, and there is nothing displayed on the screen. It’s worked fine until now; can anyone give me a clue of what might be going wrong?
