crazy4u,
First of all make sure it’s not just a loose cable. Reseat cables on both sides of the inverter board.
BTW, I found a new inverter for Dell Inspiron 710m for about $45 on ebay.

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. My fan went off a couple of days ago after running noisily for about a year now. I bought a new fan for $20 from parts-people.com. They have all the Dell parts you need for a pretty decent price. I went to the Dell website and followed the manual about how to get into the computer fan. Followed the steps from Dell’s website to rip off the laptop and guess what it worked. I assembled everything again and now the new fan is running like a breeze. I can’t even believe that I could do that myself.

I accidentally spilt a little beer on a Dell Inspiron 5100. I do not want to take it in for repair because it is older and was a friend’s who gave it to me because he bought a new laptop. I was going to disassemble it and try to clean the parts and then let dry. Any advice on how to do this, or if this is a bad idea what I should do. Thanks.

My last post was for the people having trouble with there power input.
I can now see the topic is about shutting down. I also had the same prob.
Then carefully remove chip from heatsink and re grease the top of the chip and replace it back into its slot. Then replace heatsink. Hopefully this will sort the heat problem out and stop it from restarting
I took the casing off and removed the heatsink. The processor chip will prob be stuck onto it because of heat. I then sucked out all the dust which had clogged up all around the chip and heatsink etc, It was a lot by the way

The problem is the dc jack. After a certain ammount of time of pulling the power cord ina nd out of the back of the laptop, the jack becomes loose from the motherboard.
I purchased a new dc jack, they are easy to find, i got mine from ebay. Then you have to remove motherboard and resolder jack onto motherboard. I hope this helps.

hi the problem will be on the motherboard. Let me help u identiy what to look for. first take out the keyboard, now u should be looking at the monitor connection one the motherboard. are you with me… i think you are now good… if you look in front of that you in the direction ot the power button you will see some little connections on the mother board they are very fine. you will see two identical ones which are vertical and then another 2 identical ones which are also vertical but smaller than the first two. the you will see one larger one which will be horisontal. Good now that we identiy the are we are looking in look at the first two vertical ones. more than likely the second one in slightly burnt out or bad. The problem could be any one of those but more than likely the second one. i know thich cause mine was burned out

Hi cj2600,
Thanks for the advice…
Yes, I can stil see a very faint black out screen…though I can figure out easily that it isnt as black as it should be when the machine is completely off. But it boots up properly sometimes and works fine for an hour or so…you touch it or move it a bit here n there n off goes the screen though the processor still running…
I will check out the screen inverter…
Do you have any idea how much the faulty screen inverter cost?
Thanks.

crazy4u,
Take a closer look at the screen when it turns off. Is it completely black or you still can see a very faint image?
If the image is still there, most likely you have a faulty screen inverter.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 — it was working fine for the last 2 years — overheating problems a few times but worked fine again once it cooled down. But for the last few days, every time I turn it on with the AC adapter, the screen goes black. I can hear the processor and fan still running however.
I can turn it on with just the battery and then connect the adaptor to charge though.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
