@ MisterK,

You just can download a password remover burn it on usb or cd start up from cd/usb. Then choose the. User from who you want to remove the password and there you are!

It will work to clear the user password but not the system (BIOS) password.

Hi can you shed some light on this component? http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/e6400unknown.jpg/ I found at least two of these tiny components (black with white square printed in the center) from a DELL E6400 laptop which I took apart to replace a memory module. Anyone have any close up photos of the motherboard? so I can locate where these components go & hopefully solder them back on.Thanks

Guys n Gals,
if you have a dell notebook (no matter which model), and it turns on briefly, then off again (and will not stay on), this is indicative of a cmos power chip failure. On most notebook models from Dell, this means you either need to replace these chips on the motherboard, or replace the motherboard. M140's have a daughter board for the power jack and are more easily repaired. You can buy a new daughter board for the m140 (and a few other models) on ebay for under $25 (shipped). Some other ebayers offer to replace the cmos power chips for about $100 (shipped). But you should also be aware, that typically, when the cmos power chips go, they sometimes damage the motherboard. So replacing them only delays the enevitable.
