The following laptop step-by-step disassembly manuals I have created myself. You can use them if you have a Toshiba laptop and want to repair or upgrade it yourself. You shouldn’t disassemble your laptop if you have no experience with computers because you can easily damage it. Also, you shouldn’t open it if the laptop is still under warranty. I’m still developing new laptop teardown guides and my goal is to add new guides every week. If you do not see a manual for your model, most likely I will add it later. Stay tuned.

How about a Satellite 1905-301. Is there one in your list that is very similar to this one.
February 10th, 2006 at 5:58 pm
I do not remember 1905 model off the top of my head. Check out Toshiba Satellite 5105, isn’t it similar?
February 16th, 2006 at 6:31 pm
Fantastic Toshiba User Guides…thanks!!
Looks like I finally solved my Toshiba Satellite 1805-s274 CPU overheating problem. I opened up the machine using your instructions and cleaned off the heatsink and CPU fan. I expected to see dust bunnies in the case but it was actually very clean in there. I think the thermal transfer compound must have broken down over time causing the shutdowns. I cleaned off the old thermal grease with isopropyl alcohol and reapplied with no more thermal shutdowns for now.
Question…on my Satellite 1805…what is the screw type on the wireless card door? It looks like a tamper-proof Torx. I have tried a few different drivers and still can’t get it out and don’t want to chew up the screws. When I open it, will there be an antenna cable since this model didn’t come with a wireless card?
Thanks.
P.S. It would be helpful to make a list of the Toshiba screw symbols with their screw sizes since all screws are marked on the case.
February 16th, 2006 at 10:00 pm
Some Toshiba laptops come prepared for wireless networking with wireless antennas already installed. I guess you can check it if you remove the keyboard securing strip and the keyboard. I would remove the wireless card cover first, but you mentioned that you cannot remove the screws. Wireless antennas are located under the LCD screen and wires go to the wireless card connector through the laptop hinges. Under the keyboard you should see white and brown wires coming from the screen. These two wires are wireless card antennas. If you do not see these wires, most likely they are not installed on your laptop.
The wireless card cover is secured by two M2×4 special Torx screws. You can remove them if you use a special Wi-Fi Torx screwdriver (with a hole drilled in the middle). You can also try to remove them with a small flat-head screwdriver or with pliers.

Is there an easy way to tighten the hinge movement on a Toshiba 1415. Mine has become loose enough that when partially closed, it will continue down to about 2 inches open.
Thanks
February 23rd, 2006 at 8:20 pm
To replace or tighten the hinge you have to disassemble the laptop. I think one of the hinges in your laptop is broken.

Hi,
I was just wondering now that my waranty has run out, if it is possible to put a better processor into my Toshiba A-60 (2.8 Celeron D). Also I was wondering if there was any way of upgrading the ATI 9100 chip to something better?
Thanks in advance.
March 1st, 2006 at 7:39 pm
Hi Erik,
You definitely cannot upgrade the video chip because it is integrated into the system board.
Also there is no official information about upgrading the CPU. Toshiba has 10 different system boards and 11 different CPUs listed for Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop. The following CPUs are listed: Celeron 2.70GHz – 2.93GHz and Pentium 3.06GHz – 3.33GHz. I guess it would be possible to upgrade to Celeron 2.93GHz, but do you really want to spend extra money to gain 103MHz? There is a possibility that BIOS will not recognize new CPU correctly and you can face a heat dissipation problem. If it would be possible to use many different CPUs with the same system board, Toshiba wouldn’t spend tons of money on creating a different system board for each model. All listed system boards are not interchangeable and can be used only in the model they were designed for. I have never done this kind of upgrade myself.

I am trying to find out how to get 1gig of Ram memory into a Toshiba 1905-S301 it came with 256 in side it some were, and a few years ago I added 256 into the single expantion slot under the bottom cover. Do you know how to change the internal slot to 512? do I need to split the case to get to the internal ram?
March 5th, 2006 at 6:27 pm
Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 has 2 memory slots. One memory slot you can access if you remove a memory cover on the bottom of your laptop. The second memory stick is located under the top cover. To access the second memory slot you have to split the case and remove the entire top cover assembly.

i have a p30 sattelite and the securing strip that holds the key board in has a screw in that is not accessable.the screw is under the screen .I I need to repair the dc power jack and was hoping i could do it from the top through that without ripping the whole coputer apart.
March 10th, 2006 at 1:20 am
I think that you have a great site and I like it alot. I have a Toshiba sattelite 1135-s155 that needs a new system board and wondered if you had a repair guide or any information on that particular laptop or if you had amodel similar
March 13th, 2006 at 12:05 pm
I have a Toshiba Satellite P35-S629. The screen has gone dim…almost blank. I have found several sites that address this issue by saying to reseat the inverter.
I found a site that shows me what the inverter looks like. What I cannot find is WHERE the inverter in this model is located.
I have taken the thing apart several times, including the display section once…I still haven’t got a clue where the inverter is.
Can anyone provide a photograph or at least some information on where to find the inverter in this model? I was told up near the top of the keyboard, where it hinges the display on, but there is only one board inside the bottom…the main board.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I need to remove the CDROM from my A50 Satellite notebook.
Why isn’t the tutorial in your range?
I am skeptical of my laptop, does it actually exist??
March 23rd, 2006 at 9:26 am
Hi there,
The tutorial for Satellite A50 is not in my range because I haven’t worked on this particular model yet and it is not a very common model. I create new guides when I get new laptops for repair.
It shouldn’t be very difficult to remove the CD-ROM drive from Satellite A50. You have to remove one screw on the bottom of the laptop. The screw is located close to the edge, between the Toshiba label and the CD-ROM drive. Try to slide the drive from the laptop. If you still cannot remove it, there would be one or two more screws under the keyboard. I do not remember if the CD-ROM drive is secured by a screw under the keyboard. You can use tutorial for Toshiba Satellite A55 keyboard removal to get under the keyboard if needed.
March 23rd, 2006 at 9:36 am
A short update on Toshiba Satellite A55. I just had to replace the keyboard and checked how the DVD drive is connected. You have to remove one screw on the bottom of the laptop and one screw under the keyboard. I guess you have to do the same for Satellite A50.
March 27th, 2006 at 12:50 pm
I have a replacement jack for my Satellite A65. I’m just wondering if it’s worth the trouble to replace the poorly designed original jack, or if it might be better to replace it with a surfact-mounted jack that wouldn’t be so succeptible to leverage when the computer is moved around or used in bed. Do you know of anyone who had actually relocate the jack to a place away from the motherboard?
March 27th, 2006 at 1:06 pm
Hey Steve,
If you want to relocate the jack you still have to open the laptop case and go inside. I think if you solder it properly, it will last for a long time hopefully.
Unfortunately, I do not know anyone who relocated the DC jack, you’ll be first.

I have a tecra 9100 and the wifi doesnt work it says…Wireless communication is disabled. Please turn on the Wireless Communication Switch… The switch is on and i do not no wat is wrong please help me …. dean.zouroudis@gmail.com
April 1st, 2006 at 8:55 pm
Hi Dean,
Are you sure that the wireless card is installed in your laptop? When you turn on the switch does the Wi-FI LED lights? May be your wireless connection is just disabled. You can check it if you open the network connection properties. Go to Start-Control Panel-Network Connections. See if the wireless network connection icon is grayed out. Right click on it and enable.
Check is the device manager if you can see the wireless network adapter. If you see a yellow exclamation mark close to it, try to reload the wireless card driver.
April 1st, 2006 at 9:13 pm
it is enabled but it doesnt work it has a X on the icon and i checked it says its working properly so i dont know… bluetooth doesnt work either so ye..
April 1st, 2006 at 9:27 pm
is it that the switch maybe is not connected to the device or something like that
April 1st, 2006 at 11:19 pm
oo and the LED light does not turn on when the switch is on
April 1st, 2006 at 11:50 pm
It looks like the wireless card is installed and detected (X on the icon), but doesn’t work properly. If the LED light doesn’t turn on it indicates a hardware problem. It is possible that the wireless card is bad. It is also possible that the I/O board is bad. Is it possible that the wireless card antennas are not connected to the card? Try to reseat the card.

Do u need to remove the dvd rom. And will that fix the switch problem?

April 3rd, 2006 at 8:31 am
Erik,
I have a toshiba satellite A35. I cleaned its heat sink following your explanation in the disassembly manual. The problem I faced is that the CPU was stuck to the heatsink, and it came off when I was trying to remove the heat sink. I replaced the CPU back, but I think I messed its orientation or something, as I am unable to power on my laptop now. Did I completely screw up my laptop, or do you think there is a way out. Please help.
April 3rd, 2006 at 9:48 pm
Hey Praveen,
When you remove the heatsink from Toshiba Satellite A30 / A35 laptop it usually comes out with the CPU on it. You have to carefully separate the CPU from the heatsink and clean it up from the old thermal grease (be careful not to bend CPU pins). Then you have to open the CPU lock (screw on the CPU socket), insert the CPU (do not use any pressure) into the socket and lock it. After the CPU is in place, you can apply new grease on it and install the heatsink.
You can also read this thread; the guy explains how he fixed the same problem with his Toshiba Satellite A35 laptop.
April 5th, 2006 at 10:07 am
The left hinge of my M35 is popping up. The hinge cover is broken. And I think a small semi-circle piece attached to the case (right under the cable) is also broken. I am wondering if I can just replace the hinge cover, and everything will be good to go? Or is the hinge is broken too?
Specifically, I can see that there is this round pin, attached to the top hinge, that fits into a hole on the bottom case. However when I open or close the lid, the pin will pop out from the hole. Will a new hinge cover able to hold it and everything back to normal?
Thanks in advance.
April 5th, 2006 at 10:57 pm
Kam, I’m pretty sure that the hinge is broken itself and just replacing the plastic will not fix the problem. The hinges are pretty expensive. If you take the laptop to a Toshiba service center, they will ask about $90-$100 just for the hinge. Plus labor.
April 6th, 2006 at 1:03 am
cj,
That’s what I am afraid of.
From your “take apart” instructions, the hinges are both on the LCD side (top) and on the System unit side (bottom). When I buy a new hinge, does it come with both top and bottom pieces?
Thanks for your help.
April 6th, 2006 at 11:18 am
Yes, it is one piece. To replace the hinge, you have to follow steps 1-16 to remove the top cover and display assemblies. After that you have to remove the screen and replace the hinge. It takes a lot of time. I think that replacing a broken hinge is the most time consuming repair.
April 8th, 2006 at 11:09 pm
I have an P30 and after removing the lcd there is a tamperproof (I believe) sticker on the one screw there (its visible on your disassembly page). Its still under warrenty but from my last experience they keep the laptop for over a week and I can’t lose it for that long. Is there some way to remove that screw/sticker without damaging it or voiding the warrenty? Maybe buying a new sticker or some special way of removing them?
Thanks in advance
April 9th, 2006 at 7:51 pm
Hey Matt,
First off all, I wouldn’t recommend to open the laptop case if it is still under warranty because it will void the warranty.
I have never seen a tamperproof sticker on laptops sold in the USA. I saw it only one time when I disassembled Toshiba Portege A100 notebook . Toshiba Portege A100 is not sold in the USA.

Ive been lookin for ages to find a place that can supply me with replacement hinges for my Toshiba Satellite 2450-201 and have finally done so.. but wasn’t overly confident in going about replacing the things due to the sheer quantity of tiny cables everywhere. I saw the tutorial for the Toshiba Satellite A20 and noticed the body is identical to the 2450!!! Awesome..
Just need to know whether or not the hinges would be cross compatible if i were to get ones for the A20?. Both machines use the exact same body/casing so one presumes they would be the same
Thanks
April 16th, 2006 at 9:04 am
Hi Tom,
I checked the part listing for both models Toshiba Satellite 2450/2455 and Toshiba Satellite A20/A25. Here is what I found.
The left hinge for both models has the same part number: P000368300
The right hinge has different part number: P000368310 for Satellite 2450/2455 and P0000378510 for Satellite A20/A25. But on the diagram they look very similar. I tried to compare the pictures side by side and I didn’t notice any difference. You have very good chances that the right hinge is the same for both models. Not sure 100% though.
April 16th, 2006 at 6:14 pm
Hello cj,
I want to thank you for making the disassemble instructions for the m35 very clear and esay to follow. And thank you for answering my question last week. I was able to follow the instructions (up to step 16) and then figure out a few more things on my own. And I did it. I replaced the broken hinge, and it is now good as new!
Thank you.

I have a Toshiba 1805-s203. Recently the hard drive died so I bought a new one and installed it. Everything was fine for a couple of days until I suddenly had problems turning the laptop on. There seems to be no appaernt patern in this, sometimes it switches on and boots fine, other times the power light comes on but nothing boots, no hard drive light or anything else. I have since replaced the cmos battery and done a bois update but this seems to have had no efffect. Sometimes its fine, sometimes it just doesnt want to turn on. Any help would be great as this is really getting to me

I have two bad hinges on a Satellite 1415. Does anyone know where I can purchase these parts for a fair price. Thank you for a great site and a great resource.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:18 pm
Hi Shayn,
Laptop hinges are pretty expensive. You can try to find it on ebay or just google for the part number.
Part number for Toshiba Satellite 1415 hinges.
P000347850 right hinge
P000347860 left hinge
I just searched by the part number on Google and found one of the hinges for $79 here. I think that’s a pretty good price.
April 24th, 2006 at 2:33 am
Hi.
First of all a big thumbs up on the site, excellent resource & extremely helpful.
I have a problem with my Toshiba P30-141 laptop, when turning it on the fans all kick in, but nothing else happens. I have taken the laptop apart, and the problem appears to be with the 3.5v Power Rail. It only appears to be outputting approx 1 volt instead of the required 3.5 volts, and hence is not distributing enough power. Do you have a circuit diagram or schematic for the power rail so I am able to locate where the problem lies? Or do you have any idea what the problem might be? I am unsure where to go now I have located the problem!
Many thanks in advance.
April 24th, 2006 at 9:21 pm
Hello Mike,
Sorry I will not be able to help you. We do not work with system boards on a component lever. If we determine that the main board is bad we replace it and send it for repair to Toshiba.

Hi there.
Here’s my question.
I have a satellite a60 and i want to change my hard drive ¿there’s any possibility to do that without making the complete disassembly, just taking the HDD out?
thanks in advance..
May 2nd, 2006 at 6:40 pm
Francisco,
It is not necessary to disassemble the laptop if you want to replace the hard drive. Here is Toshiba Satellite A60 disassembly guide. On the step 1 you remove the hard drive cover, on the step 2 you pull the hard drive out of the laptop.
May 3rd, 2006 at 5:32 pm
Hi.. just found your site while searching for help on my notebooks. I have two, and both seem to have the same problem, and unfortunately, my 2 models are not listed on your site.
The first is an old Tecra 8100 and the second is a newer Satellite M30. Both units have play in the LCD covers.. The Tecra 8100 is really bad – the cover flops around about 2 inches. Is there a way of tightening this up so it is not loose like this? Is this just an adjustment, or do I need to buy parts to replace?
I have a similar problem with the M30, but the play is only about half an inch.. for now. I hope it will not get worse! But, again, I ask is there a simple procedure to tighten the cover or do I need replacement parts?
Are these cover hinges similar on all models? if so, is there a link on your site to some detailed photos for me to work from?
Many thanks!!

The left cover of the hinge of my Sattalite P25 has popped up and the screen cannot close. I can get the replacement part from ebay, but is it difficult to replace myself?
Thanks!
May 3rd, 2006 at 11:02 pm
Paul,
Sometimes you can fix loose hinges by tightening screws, but most likely hinges are broken. To check the hinges, you have to remove the keyboard securing strip- the part located above the keyboard.
Here is a link for Toshiba Tecra 8000 FRU documentation.
I do not have a guide for Satellite M30 but have for Toshiba Satellite M35. These models are identical, so use it. Hinges for all laptop are different and they are pretty expensive. Be ready to spent at least $70 for one hinge.

I have a Toshiba 1905-S301 Laptop. I have installed an Intel 2200BG wireless card. I have downloaded and installed the latest driver. It is shown in the device manager as working properly and the hardware switch is on. The LED for the wireless does not light up and the wireless card contiues to show that it is turned off. Any ideas of how to get the card to work or is this card incompatible. Toshiba says it is compatible. Thanks.
May 4th, 2006 at 7:00 pm
“Hinges for all laptop are different and they are pretty expensive. Be ready to spent at least $70 for one hinge.”
Cough!! Cough!! Wow! $140 US for a pair of hinges.. that is more than the laptop is worth!! Surely, they can be repaired (welded, or whatever?) or acquired used?
Thanks for the links – I will take a look, and “maybe” give it a shot.

My daughters A30 has a power socket problem, looks like it needs either replacing or resoldering. No problem with that, except not taken apart a Tosh before, and its not in your list. Is it the same as the A35. Quite prepared to write an article on it and supply piccies if I can get into it in the first place.
Regards Cliff
May 5th, 2006 at 10:40 pm
Cliff,
Toshiba Satellite A30 and A35 have identical base and would share the same disassembly stets. Unfortunately I have not created a complete disassembly guide for this model. The only guide I have will show you how to remove and clean the heatsink. It looks like the power jack is a part of the system board, so you will have to replace or re-solder the power jack. I can read through the other guides to get an idea how to take it apart. It might be a challenge if you’ve never done it before.
Good luck.
May 6th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
I was wondering if someone could tell me how to go about fixing this: on my m200 laptop, the LEDs for the power/hard drive/battery/etc. all went out. Do I just have to replace a bulb, or is it more complicated than that?
Please advise.
May 6th, 2006 at 6:42 pm
Hi Roy,
First of all I would check the AC adapter. Does your laptop is still working of the battery or it is completely dead?
May 7th, 2006 at 5:51 am
The laptop works off both battery and A/C power. Everything works great, except for those LED indicators which are out.
May 7th, 2006 at 9:59 pm
Roy,
On Toshiba Satellite M200 and M205 the LED indicators are located on a separate board. The LED board is connected to the system board through a flat cable. If the LED indicators do not work, there could be 3 problems: the LED board itself is bad, the flat cable is bad or the connection on either end of the cable is loose.
Here is a Toshiba Satellite M205 disassembly guide. First, try to reseat the LED board cable on the system board. The cable is pictured on the step 8, on the top. To reseat the LED board cable you have to lift up the keyboard first, it’s not necessary to remove all screws on the bottom of the laptop. Follow steps 4-8. If it doesn’t help, the next step would be replacing the LED board with the cable. To access the LED board you have to take apart the laptop completely and remove the system board.

Have just stripped down the Satellite A30 PSA30E-1896C-EN
using the guides on the net which I have in PDF format.
I have ordered the DC Power Jack from http://www.laptopjacks.com from your website (good contact) and have removed the DC power jack from the motherboard.
This is not easy, and I am sure your members would benefit from my experience (ex electronics tech/radio ham) so the tips I have would be invaluable. Can write it up for you if you wish.
If so where would you like me to send it to.
Regards Cliff (UK)

Great site!!!
I have a bit off-topic question. I’ve got a Satellite M60 and the keyboard is horrible, it eats letters as I type. I have to use an external USB keyboard to get by. I’ve had the keyboard replaced at our local Toshiba service (revision 01) but it didn’t help, at least not much (perhaps I’m spoilt by the keyboard of my old Satellite 3000). Any clues?

Hi there!
I purchased a toshiba satelite 1900 about 4 years ago, the computer itself had been working fine until a few months ago when it, without any warning shut off!
This has gradually gotten worse!
I have looked through your site for help but have not seen the 1900 series listed, i have since found out that this series has been discontinued! I would be extremly grateful If u could provide a solution and if possible a step by step disassemling and cleaning guide for me as Toshiba when asked for help, only seem hell bent on collecting the computer for servicing for a large premium as my warranty has expired!
May 16th, 2006 at 7:43 pm
Jason,
I haven’t seen Satellite 1900 for a while now. These days laptops are cheap and most people just buy a new laptop when the old one is broken. I haven’t created a disassembly guide for Satellite 1900 yet and I’ll do it as soon as I get if for repair. To get an access to the fan on this model you have to remove the top cover assembly. You can try to clean the heatsink with a can of compressed air. It’s not the best way but better then nothing.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite 2455-S305, which is very similar to the A25/A20. I followed your excellent instructions and replaced my loose hinges. But now, the computer won’t turn on. I press the power button, the power light comes on, but no display, no beeps, and the hard drive doesn’t spin up. The laptop isn’t completely reassembled, but I thought I’d try it to make sure everything is okay before finishing up. For this particular laptop (or laptops in general) do you have to completely put it back together to get it to work? Are there sensors that prevent the computer from turning on (other than the lid sensor) if things aren’t quite the way they should be? Any help is appreciated
May 17th, 2006 at 1:47 pm
Pyl85,
You do not have to completely assemble the laptop to make it work and there are no sensors. To boot the laptop you need the system board, the CPU(with the cooling module) and the memory module installed. After that you connect an external monitor and turn on the laptop. If everything is fine you should get a video output on the monitor. If you still have nothing, check if the memory is seated properly and most important check if the CPU is seated properly. Before you install the CPU in the socket on the motherboard, you have to unlock the socket. Usually there is a screw-lock on the side of the socket with marks Locked and Open. When you install the CPU do not push on it. There is only one way to put the CPU inside the socket, both are marked. After the CPU is in the socket, do not forget to lock it.
I usually try to turn on the system after each part installed to see if I can get an external video. It takes more time to assemble the laptop, but helps you to avoid mistakes.

Thanks.
May 23rd, 2006 at 8:52 pm
Hi Jules,
I just checked a detailed accessories specification list for Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 and I didn’t find any miniPCI wireless card listed (internal wireless card). The only wireless card listed is Orinoco wireless LAN PC card (external card). May be I’m wrong but that’s what I found.
Anyways, it looks like you were able to install the card inside the laptop. What about wireless card antennas? There should be two thin cables (black and white) with small round connectors in the wireless card bay. These cables are necessary for the wireless card to operate properly. Did you find these cables, did you connect them to the wireless card?

Hey Gents,
I’m reseating (perhaps replacing) the inverter on a Toshiba M30 in the office…any bits of advice I should know before I start peeling this thing open?

Do not hurry.
Check out other disassembly guides to get an idea what to expect, they all kinda similar.
July 14th, 2006 at 12:49 am
Hey guys. The keyboard on my Satellite M60 will not work due to liquid inside the keyboard… Any ideas of how to fix this problem? Also, when I boot, it wont let me go past the BIOS, and it makes short continuous beeping sounds. What’s the problem and how must I go about fixing this?
July 14th, 2006 at 8:04 am
Hey Ben,
Your laptop might have more problems then just a bad keyboard. Liquid spills are unpredictable and if the liquid went down to the system board, it’s possible that the system board is damaged too.
I would definitely try to remove the keyboard from the laptop and start the laptop without the keyboard. If it boot fine, then a new keyboard might fix the problem.

Any one know how to remove the CPU on a Satellite M30??
Please!!

Ken,
Is Toshiba Satellite M30 much different then Satellite M35? You’ll find instructions for Satellite M35 in the links above. The CPU is pictured on the step 28.

My Toshiba Satalite P15-S479 operating system crashed, and I need to remove it from the computer to reformat.
Problem, I can’t find the hard drive. Is it hidden under something, such as the CD drive?

August 10th, 2006 at 11:57 am
Yep, it’s under the optical drive. Remove one screw securing the DVD drive and slide it out. You’ll find the hard drive there.
August 10th, 2006 at 12:20 pm
Thanks for the input… I have opened the door to the DVD drive, turned the machine upside down, removed the battery, and I have taken out the screw that can be seen when the door is opened, but alas, nothing moves, and I hate forcing.
Do I need to do something else.
K. Wimer
August 10th, 2006 at 12:33 pm
You don’t have to open the DVD drive door and remove any screw inside. The screw that secures the drive could be accessed without opening the drive. It’s just above the optical drive assembly, close to the center. Remove this screw and slide the entire assembly out. I believe that under the drive you’ll find a metal plate and have to remove it too (4 screws) before you can access the hard drive.

Thanks…. Got it out .

Is it under keyboard cover or under the laptop (Turn the unit upside down ).
Please could you tell me where is the hard drive located for that model

I have Toshiba Satelite M30 and i have no the CD driver, could u tell me where i can get it. so i can fix my laptop. i reinstall it but have no driver, thanks plese give me the best solution. and free download that the first i need now. thank u so much all who read this, bye…
October 1st, 2006 at 11:17 pm
Iam,
Toshiba website doesn’t have drivers for CD drives. If your CD/DVD drive is in a good working condition, Windows should detect it and install a proper driver automatically. If you have a yellow exclamation mark in front of CD drive in the device manager, right click and uninstall the driver. After that reboot the laptop and see if your problem is fixed.
If you cannot see your CD/DVD drive in My Computer, check out this post.

I have an LCD on my laptop that is too dark to see and is worthless. It would be to expensive to replace the LCD and i have another moniter for it, so i want to take the whole screen and frame (the whole thing that is on the hinges, i dont exactly know what to call it) to get it out of the way. How would i do this?

Thks joe callahan
October 30th, 2006 at 9:19 pm
Noah,
When you have no backlight, it could be just a bad FL inverter board and it’s not necessary to replace the entire screen. Take a look at this post: troubleshooting laptop video problems.
It’s possible to replace the entire display assembly but I cannot give you instructions because I don’t know the model of your laptop. If it’s Toshiba, you can find some help if you follow the links above. If it’s Dell, HP or IBM, you can find instructions on their websites.

Sorry Joe,
T2000 is too old and I have no way to find a repair manual for this model.

The P/N:=P5500U-00Y0LX
I can not find any disassembly instructions that refrence this model.
Can you assist me?
December 12th, 2006 at 12:12 pm
Thanks for the Toshiba M35x info. I just soldered a new power connector into one of these and your site was quite helpful, better than most service manuals I have seen.
I would add that this model was very easy to disassemble and has about half the screws that other brands or models do.
I thought I was the only one to use a guitar pick on a laptop!
Thanks

I have a toshiba satellite 2450 and the screen is quite faint. Very actually. I have replaced the FL inverter no problem with a brand new one, however the problem still persists. I believe that it is just the backlight gone dim.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A45-S120 with completely broken hinges on both sides. It used to be my mother’s but she upgraded after my daughter sat on it and broke the hinges. Any ideas on where I can find a pair of hinges SUPER cheap? I am out of work for medical reasons which makes the laptop very handy but the $70-$150 per hinge price tag is crazy for an old laptop. My mom only paid $500 for her brand new one. Which I guess having neither $500 or $140 makes the point moot huh? Anyway, any ideas of where to look for them?
January 2nd, 2007 at 5:52 pm
Also, I am coming up with 4 part numbers but no reference to top and bottom parts. The part that is really broken is attached to the bottom hinge on both sides. I have a Satellite A45-S120 PSA40U-06FV3V. I even managed to find the 4 parts for $50 US each on a Canadian site but I do not see a “C” or “S” inside my battery compartment.
January 3rd, 2007 at 7:52 pm
Stephanie,
That’s a really good price for hinges. If you cannot find “C” or “S” in the battery compartment, search for this letter on the bottom of the laptop. I noticed that the letter is not always located in the battery bay. It’s not on a sticker, the letter is located on the plastic case itself.

Greetings,
Wow! Great resource here, thank you so much for the good job of getting this info out.
Now for my question . . . . I have a Toshiba Satellite L15-S104 that won’t boot up after it was dropped from a height of about 2 feet (of off a bed) onto a carpeted floor. No display, not even external video. Sounds like it’s booting up though.
I would love to disassemble this laptop to see what’s up and if there’s anything I can repair or replace but I can’t find a service manual anywhere online (so far).
Is anything listed here close enough to a L15 that I can use?
Thanks for any and all replies and assistance!
Peace,
Gail
February 2nd, 2007 at 9:32 am
Hi Gail, the first thing I would do would be to check the HD. I bought a case/usb connection on ebay for $12.00 then you can plug it in to any usb supporting computer and check the HD functions and retrieve any important data. It’s a really simple process but very reassuring!
Then I’d take out the RAM and put it back in and then move on to the screen….
February 2nd, 2007 at 10:02 am
Hi Gideon,
I did all of those things, I have an external USB HD case and the data was fine on it and there’s no apparent damage to the disc. I also did the same with the RAM, removed it and used a memory utility to check it for errors/damage and they passed with flying colors.
The thing is I can hear it, it sounds like it’s booting up but no image on the monitor. Also, as I said, the external video doesn’t work either so it leads me to suspect that either the graphics card knocked loose (assuming that it’s not onboard) or it’s damaged and hopefully can be replaced. I can’t tell unless I can get inside the case and see what’s going on.
I did find a list of “generic steps can help you to dismantle your laptop” at the bottom of this page: http://irisvista.com/tech/. I’ll try it today and see if it’s enough to assist the process.
Thanks for the reply!
Peace,
Gail

I have a Portege 2000 where is the fan defect.
Which Portege description comes near to this?
I can’t remove the bac, ther are too many little clambs and things like that.
Maybe I should try from the upper side by removing the keyboard?
February 5th, 2007 at 12:06 am
Mark,
I haven’t created a guide for taking apart Satellite P100 yet, I just took some pictures last week. Replacing the keyboard on Satellite P100 will not be much different then replacing the keyboard on Satellite M105, just follow steps 9-12.
Some differences:
- on your notebook the keyboard is secured by six screws
- the keyboard cable connector on the motherboard is a little bit different
February 5th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
bed,
Toshiba Portege 2000 is a little bit different then other models, because in this model you actually have to remove the notebook base in order to access the motherboard. On other models you have to remove the top cover. Here’s some disassembly tips for you:
- Remove all screws from the bottom, remove all devices (battery, hdd, memory)
- Turn over the notebook. Remove the keyboard strip and then remove the keyboard
-Disconnect all cables you can find under the keyboard. Remove 4 or 5 silver screws under the keyboard
-Turn the laptop upside down again and carefully lift up the bottom cover
Now you have access to the motherboard. Not sure if you can find a spare fan for this model, it comes with the motherboard.
February 6th, 2007 at 2:18 am
Whow, your answer is more than I even had hope !:)
Luckily I managed the fan to work again without disassembling the whole thing. So I have time to search for a new one and do the job then.
Thank you very much for your answer!

I’m repairing an M35-S456 motherboard for a friend of mine (the graphics chip is fried – major vertical lines & garbage thru both lcd & external monitor)… and the price of the specific motherboard is insane.
Is it possible to replace the M35-S456 (P000406480) motherboard with another M35 motherboard which isn’t listed as “compatible” for the same series? The other board i’m looking at is specifically the P000386640 (for M35-S320.M35-S359,etc).
Please let me know if you think this would work in place of it.

Thanks Lourdes Tollette
pls let me know as soon as possbile
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:20 pm
Vinodh,
I believe Toshiba Satellite M40X notebook is similar to M35X, it’s just a different name. Unfortunately there is not easy access to the heatsink, you’ll have to take the whole think apart. Check the disassembly guide for a Satellite M35X notebook. Before you go inside, try cleaning the heatsink and fan with compressed air. Buy a can of compressed air and blow inside the air intakes on the bottom, the dust will go away through the openings on the side.
April 22nd, 2007 at 3:24 pm
Lourdes Tollette,
I don’t have a guide for replacing the LCD screen on a Toshiba Satellite P35 notebook. But replacing the LCD screen will similar for most Toshiba laptops. You can use instructions for Satellite A65 as an example.

April 28th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
Thanks to your information, I had no problem taking the Toshiba Satellite P25 apart. Can you tell me how to diagnose a power issue? While using the computer, it turned off. It simply will not reboot. It does nothing using battery or power supply. The ac? light does come on when the power supply is plugged into it but no fans or drives engage.
April 29th, 2007 at 11:32 am
iant,
It’s possible that a faulty device is halting the entire system. Try removing the hard drive, DVD drive, wireless card, memroy one by one and see if the BIOS stops hanging. I would start with the hard drive.
April 29th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
Erik,
Test the power adapter, make sure it outputs correct voltage. If the adapter works fine then it’s possible you have a failed motherboard. I’m not sure what else could be wrong.
Try this. Remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter. Wait for 2-3 minutes and try starting the laptop from the AC power.

I am writing to ask for your assistance. Your website for repairing your own laptop is so impressive and it must be so helpful to the owners of the laptop models you list, I just had to write and ask if you have ever had any experience repairing my laptop and model (mine is not listed among the many you discuss).
Mine is a Toshiba Satellite, Model 3005-S303 PIII, 850 Mhz, Windows 2000 Pro (manufactured in 2001). It has an expansion memory door on the bottom. Under the door is one module of 128mg in each of the 2 available slots for a total of 256mb. However, when I took it to PC Pitstop.com (when it was
running) they listed it as having 384mb. The spec sheet on this laptop also said it had 128mb (Toshiba on board) memory. I guess my main question to you is – Does this model have a module of removable memory on the motherboard that can be replaced and do you know whereabouts it is? Is it possible there is memory on the board and it’s not removable or replaceable because it’s a chip of some kind?
I followed your instructions for the Toshiba Satellite 1905 hoping mine was just like it and I would see the memory module under the center of the keyboard like it was in the Satellite 1905. When I tore mine down to that point all I saw was a lot of metal plating and was afraid to go any farther. I think it has a hardware problem because one day when I went to boot up it just kept coming up with a blue STOP screen and from there it just reboots and reboots. I figured I could start with the memory as the first problem to rule out. I ran the memtest86 program through 6 passes without errors.
Here is the Stop Error:
STOP 0×0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xA000F789, 0×00000000, 0X00000040)

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Jan
May 1st, 2007 at 1:56 am
Jan,
According with the maintenance manual, Toshiba Satellite 3005-S303 notebook doesn’t have onboard memory. This model has two memory slots located on the motherboard, accessible from the door on the bottom.
From my experience, if you can see and access two memory slots on the motherboard, this model doesn’t have onboard memory.
I guess the technician at Pitstom made a mistake. You see two 128MB modules on the bottom, so you have 256MB not 384MB.
If RAM passed Memtest, most likely there is nothing wrong with the memory. I would run the hard drive test next, you can use Hitachi’s drive fitness utility for testing the hard drive. You’ll find the link on the right side in Resources.
If the hard drive passes too, try reinstalling the operating system.

Hi,
I have the Toshiba A65 and I followed your repair manual, which is amazing. Thanks. Everything works once the unit was put back together, except the keyboard: only some of the keys work. There’s only one connection from that to the motherboard, right? I have tried re-seating the connection, reinstalling drivers, and neither of those worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
May 28th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
Ty,
Not sure what’s going on with your laptop, probably just a loose connection between the keyboard cable and the motherboard. Make sure the keyboard cable is seated all the way down into the connector.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:00 am
First of thank you very much for your comprehensive instructions on dismantlining toshiba laptops.
I have an M30 SE and the image is ‘garbaged’. The computer itself still works fine and you can vaguely distinguish what is happening on screen between the fuzziness. My assumption is that there is probably something wrong with the video card (nvidia go5200 64mb) but I am no expert on laptops. Is it possible to replace laptop video cards – if so wher would i buy a replacement to fit .. etc
Thanks for your help already and I anticipate your reply.
Jonathan
June 3rd, 2007 at 11:08 pm
Jonathan,
Toshiba Satellite M30 notebook has a video card integrated into the motherboard. If you are experiencing a problem with the video card (both internal and external images are garbaged), you’ll have to replace the entire motherboard. You cannot replace just the video card.

Hello! I’ve a Satellite 2430-S256 which I need to overhaul. Questions: 1) Will replacing the touchpad (K000001800) cure a soft, unresponsive left button? 2) There’s no disassembly manual for this model – would you recommend a specific existing guide that’s “close”? 3) Can I fit a newer (e.g. WPA-PSK compatible) Mini-PCI WiFi card into this model, and if so, what do I need to find the correct one? TIA!

K000001800 is a part number for the touchpad. The buttons are located on a separate board. If you have a problem with buttons, you should search for K000001820 – the touchpad board witch includes left and right buttons/contacts.
All Toshiba laptop disassembly guides are kinda similar and share the same steps. Take a look at 5105 disassembly guide.
There is only one wireless card listed for this model: K000002000 – Agere card.
Probably you can use a different one but I’m not sure if you can find correct device driver.

I have a weird problem with my Toshiba Satellite 2100 CDT. It sometime work good, but sometime it freeze (hang) when I work with it and can’t do anything except I just reboot with slide the power.
After I reboot, the leds indicator (the power, monitor and the battery indicator) turn on to green light, but there is no picture on the screen at all. the hard disk indicator and CD-Rom indicator are no light at all.
It seem stop/stuck after the monitor indicator turn on to the green light. If I unplug the power, the monitor indicator still turn on, but still there is nothing on the screen.
On the normal situation, after the monitor indicator on then the hard disk and the CD-Rom indicator turn on to green light.
I have tried unplug the power, the battery, and the hard drive, but I still have this problem.
If I leave it and don’t touch it for 1 day/2 days, and I boot it, it work good. But after a few hours it freeze again and can’t reboot (no display).
Thank you very much,
-alexz

alex zizo,
I think this problem can be related to a faulty memory module. Remove the memory module and check the contacts. If they look oxidized, clean them with a pencil eraser. Try installing the memory module into a different slot (if you have it available). Run the memory test. Finally replace the original memory stick with a known good one and test again.

Hi. I have a Toshiba A65-S126, and the scew securing the left hinge has broken off. The hinge still works; lid will close and open and computer will hibernate like normal. But the left hinge cover pops free from the rest of the laptop — along with that casing strip where the power button is — and I can see the broken piece of the screw in it. I’m wondering how simple that would be to repair myself, because I really don’t want Best Buy to take the comp for a whole month if that’s not necessary. Any help would be appreciated.

My son’s A75 has all the overheating and power adapter problems listed here. I fixed the power adapter once by resoldering but the actual connector broke the stabilizer tab off so I fashioned a flattened copper wire around the board and the connector for added strength. You have to be careful when placing the wire to not interfere with the case or surrounding parts when reassembled, but it can be done and it seems permanent.
Just when all seemed good the board smoked. Now with the fourth tear-down I found the P07 IC is toasted. Does anyone have one apart tha can give me the number or is there a schematic or service manual that lists the part type or number.
thx.
June 17th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Sabe Neta,
I think the screen on your Satellite A25 will not remain vertical because both hinges are broken and has to be replaced. That’s a lot of work and if you are not confident, take your laptop to a professional repair place.
June 17th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
Rachel,
If the left hinge is not broken then probably you’ll have to replace the top cover assembly. Both hinges mounts to the top cover. Here’s a part number for the top cover: V000040380. Search by this part number on Google and you’ll see witch part I’m talking about. That’s would be my guess.
I’ll find a link to the disassembly guide in the post above.

I followed all of your instructions for taking apart and reinstalling the heatsink for the Toshiba P35… now when I turn it on it starts, but does not stay on, after about 15-30 seconds it shuts down. No start up screen, nothing… just shuts down. Any suggestions? All I wanted was to replace the inverter, bulb and clean the heatsink, because it kept overheating and shutting downBulb tested and working new inverter is working, ram is in correctly, new grease applied to CPU… Help

Christine,
1. Make sure the CPU is seated properly and the CPU socket is LOCKED. There is a small screw on the CPU socket with locks or unlocks the processor.
Unlock the socket, lift up the processor, carefully insert the processor back all the way down into the socket and LOCK the socket.
2. Make sure the fans are connected to the motherboard. The fans have two small connectors witch you have to plug into the motherboard.

I have a Satellite A45 and the little plastic cover over the left hinge keeps lifting out of place, popping off the plastic case that contains my power button and speaker covers.
I have jammed the plastic back into place but to my dismay the next time I opened the lid the plastic again popped out of place.
Is this a problem with the plastic piece or the metal underneath? Is there a way for me to tell which is damaged? If so, is it possible to purchase the plastic hinge cover by itself?
Thanks!
July 2nd, 2007 at 10:06 pm
RHi,
It’s hard to say what is wrong without taking a look at the laptop. But you can find a new left hinge cover by these part numbers:
P000391760 – For laptops with letter “C” stamped on Base in battery compartment area
P000394030 – For laptops with letter “S” stamped on Base in battery compartment area
If you cannot find “C” or “S” stamp in the battery compartment area, search on the bottom of the bottom cover.

Great site, I have a Satellite 2450 (PS245A). Reinstalled WinXP Home, Downloaded and installed drivers from http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au. The built in wireless NIC is not listed under Device Manager, there are no yellow exclamations ( All devices’ are correctly installed), is it part of the chipset that has not been installe or am I doing something daft? Thanks

I have a new couple of Toshiba Satellite hinges (P000368310, P000368300). If you are interested in buying them contact me at mattia.pascal@gmail.com.
July 29th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Rod Peterson,
Remove the wireless card and clean the contacts. You can use pen eraser for cleaning contacts. It’s possible that contacts got oxidized and the laptop “doesn’t see” the wireless card.

I have a Toshiba Tecra 9100 that just stopped recieving wireless internet. The wireless switch is turned on, but the light goes on and off, on and off, picking up and dropping the wireless signal. It seems to light up when my wrist puts pressure on the comp while typing. Is this a short, or has something come loose in there? Also (I’m far from computer literate) those wireless cards that plug into the side of your laptop- if my switch is in fact broken, will I still be able to access the internet with one of those??? Thanks ahead for any help.

I have no idea if this is possible, or if I should even attempt it for that matter, but I have a Toshiba Satellite M55 laptop, and I would like to upgrade the processor to something that is a little more, how do you say it?, faster. How would I, a do-it-myself-er go about doing such a task? Any info or suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex
August 18th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
Grace,
I think there could be a connection issue. It’s possible that the wireless card is not making a good contact with the I/O board, the wireless card is located under the keyboard. Another possibility – the I/O board is not making a good contact with the motherboard. You can attempt to fix this problem by reconnecting the wireless card or reseating the I/O board, but in both cases it’s necessary to get inside the laptop. If you have no experience taking these things apart, I would probably take it to a professional shop.
August 18th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
Alex,
Unfortunately I cannot help you with upgrading the processor. Never done it myself and Toshiba doesn’t provide any information on this subject.

I have a Tecra 9100, 1.7ghz. I am interested in upgrading the processor. I know Pentium 4 M’s go up to 2.6ghz, but im not sure if my motherboard would support it. Does anyone know what the fastest processor is, that is compatible with my laptop?
Thank you

I have a toshiba tecra, 3 years old and the only thing that comes on is the power light, the charge light(when on charge) and the hard drive light is green but still, not flashing etc. the laptop isn’t making any noise either when switching it on, it is completly dead, no beeps, blank screen, and just no noise. I was using it the other night and it was working just fine, and shut it down properly, only to switch it on the morning after and for this to have happened! can anyone help me diagnose this? I’d be grateful cheers jad.

Hi – I poped off the connect to my on swtich at the back of the screen top.
Can I weld it back on – should I strip it down first?
August 25th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Amy,
I believe it depends on the type of the motherboard installed into your laptop. There are two different motherboards.
Motherboard part number: P000343670 (A5A000155010) will support processors up to 2.0GHz.
Motherboard part number: P000363500 (A5A000155020) will support processors up to 2.2GHz.
August 25th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Jad,
Maybe you have a faulty hard drive and it holt the entire system. Try turning on the laptop without the hard drive installed.
Next troubleshooting step – try installing a good known memory stick.
Finally, remove all devices – battery, hard drive, DVD drive, wireless card, modem and try starting the laptop from the AC adapter. If you still experience the same problem and the laptop is dead, most likely you have a failed motherboard.

Hi
I have a tecra M3 128 vram that will not boot, or more correctly “operate properly” unless I lift the right front corner of the laptop when facing it and prop it on something. The USB ports also “shut down” after a short period and only powered devices (eg: external drive) are recognised properly, a mouse plugged in will stop working.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
September 15th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
Paul,
Sounds like a motherboard problem and I’ve seen a similar issue with Tecra M2 and M3 laptops before. The laptops will not boot properly until you lift up the lower right corner (or top left corner). I believe there is a bad connection somewhere on the motherboard and when you lift up the corner you are flexing the motherboard, temporarily fixing the broken connection.
You can try basic troubleshooting steps as reseating the memory module, removing the hard drive with DVD drive, etc… but I don’t think it’s going to help.
September 16th, 2007 at 11:20 am
Thanks for your excelllent advice.
One more sorry, Is it possible to run the laptop without the sound board connected? This board contains sound and the afore mentioned usb ports as one circuit board unit.
If so, and the laptop appears to run correctly no matter what flexing it is subjected to, would it sound feasable that the sound board is causing the problem? I can change the sound board I think following your instructions but if it motherboard then I may have to send it to you.
Paul
PS: I am getting occasional video corruption while flexing on both internal and external video.
September 18th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Paul,
I think it’s possible, just unplug the sound board/USB board from the motherboard.
This is a problem with onboard video and you cannot fix it by removing the sound board. You’ll have to replace the motherboard.

I cannot find instructions how to replace central hinge on a tablet PC R15-S822. I’ve removed a display cover. Do I need to take out main board? And how to open hinge cover?
September 27th, 2007 at 4:23 am
Kenny Grieme,
Did you check the small switch on the side of the laptop, it turns on the wireless card? Toshiba laptops usually have a small physical switch located on one of the sides.
Make sure the wireless card is not disabled in the device manager.
September 27th, 2007 at 4:26 am
Mahmed,
First, check voltage on the power supply. Make sure the AC adapter works fine and the laptop gets power.
Second, what do you mean the laptop doesn’t want to power on? Is it completely dead or you get some kind or activity when you turn it on? Any LED lights at all? Any noises? Any video on the external screen?
September 27th, 2007 at 4:47 am
Mike,
Here you’ll find instructions for taking apart Satellite R10 and R15. But in your case it will be a tough one. If the central hinge is broken, you’ll have to replace the whole top cover/LCD cover assembly not just the hinge itself. It means you’ll have to transfer EVERYTHING – LCD, motherboard, small board, etc… You can find a new top cover/LCD cover assembly for Satellite R10/R15 by the following part number: P000423410 or P000458640 (backward compatible to the first one). The top cover/LCD cover assembly has two pieces – two covers connected by the central swivel, also it has the video cable, so you don’t have to transfer the video cable from the old cover to the new one.
I’ve replaced many of them and if you are doing it for the first time, it’s not much fun. A lot of steps, a lot of work.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:45 am
The Laptop is completely dead. No activity when I try to turn it on. No LED lights. Nothing.
September 27th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
Mohamed,
Then test the AC adapter first, make sure it provides power to the motherboard. If the adapter is OK, probably the mohterboard is dead.
September 29th, 2007 at 7:13 am
> Here you’ll find instructions for taking apart Satellite R10 and R15. > But in your case it will be a tough one.

On toshiba board they said it was likely GPU failure, is that a part that can be replaced?
November 3rd, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Teresa,
I believe on a Satellite 2455 notebook rear ports are attached to the motherboard, so you’ll have to remove the motherboard and replaced USB ports (if you can find a replacement).
You’ll find a new power jack if you search for these part numbers: P000391530 or P000347540.

Hello,
I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE P100-434, and there are some watermarks which needs to be taken care of. I looked for the exact disassembling guide, but could not find one. Are you aware of any of the similar models i can refer to. This one has a 17″ screen. Any suggestions.
Thanks in advance…
November 7th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
I have an old satelite P20 (seems to be similar to a P25) and I have had it for about 5 years now. Unfortunately the left hinge seems to have broken today ( I think so at least – as I open the screen I can see a piece of metal push out the Mask)…
So I read over the instructions for the P25 and it seems like something I could tackle, however.. although the guide is great for giving details on how to take the laptop apart, There seems to be no mention of how to replace or remove the hinges. In fact the hinges are not mentioned in the list of parts that can be replaced at the top of the guide… Is it just a trivial thing to replace the hinges once you have taken the whole thing apart ?
November 11th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30 that has a loose CPU heatsink. I can insert a tiny flatblade screwdriver into the copper heatsink fins, and move it side to side easily. Tilting the laptop also makes this move – I assume this should NOT be the case and that the CPU screws need tightening? I did note the M35 manual and can fix if this shouldnt be loose.
November 12th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Hi will you please past the screenshot about Toshiba a45 open system board guild. thank you.
November 16th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
Hi, in reply to Peter:
I’m a PC & laptop repair technician by trade. From experience on every laptop I have seen to date, the hinges are riveted or spot welded onto the internal metal frame. There’s unfortunately really no way to replace them without getting a new frame, which is not an easy part to find, nor is it very cheap. Sorry about the bad news, I have to tell people this all the time in the course of business.
In reply to Matthew:
Your CPU heatsink should always make good contact with the surface of your CPU, however they are usually not mounted with screws but rather with a spring or clip mechanism. Too much mechanical pressure, such as from directly screwing down a heatsink too tightly, runs the risk of cracking the die, which means dead CPU. I would look around and see if you can find a picture or a diagram of what it’s supposed to look like and compare to what you are seeing inside your laptop. But yes, definitely find a way to mount that thing back on properly before you use it again.
Check to make sure it’s not just the fins sliding back and forth on the heatpipe before you do anything drastic.
Now, for the reason I came here, I’m looking for the part number of the DC jack on a Toshiba Portege m200, or any link or info on where to get one. I can’t seem to find it listed on any of the major DC jack sites. It probably uses some standard jack that I just can’t find listed of course.

That’s strange but I cannot find the DC jack for a Portege m200 laptop either. I searched through all my suppliers and they do not have it.
November 23rd, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Keith,
Here’s another thread dedicated to Satellite A60 and A65 series problems.
To find out what is wrong with your laptop you’ll have to go through some troubleshooting steps. You’ll have to take it apart.
Start taking it apart by removing components that you can easily access from the bottom. Remove battery, hard drive, wireless card, DVD drive, keyboard. Test the laptop after each removed component. You can even unplug the LCD screen from the motherboard and test the laptop with an external screen. In short, minimize the laptop as much as you can. In order to successfully start the laptop with video, all you need is motherboard, processor and memory (in your case you onboard memory), so you need only motherboard and CPU.
If the laptop still beeps even after you removed all above mentioned components, most likely there is something wrong with the motherboard. You’ll have to replace the motherboard.
November 24th, 2007 at 11:45 am
I have a 2455-S305 and recently the screen started to flicker and then went black. Do you think it is the inverter, backlight or the LCD? I hooked up and external moniter and all works well.
If it is inverter or backlight do you have instructions for replacing?
Thanks
November 25th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
Michael,
First of all, press Fn+F5. This key combination switches video output between internal and external screens. It’s possible that the laptop stuck in the external mode and there is no video signal going to the laptop LCD.
Second, try tapping on the lid close switch, if you have any. Does the LCD screen change color when you’re tapping on the switch? Maybe the backlight turns on for a moment? If the backlight flashes when you’re tapping on the lid close switch and then turns off again, probably you have bad inverter.
Take a closer look at the screen when the laptop is turned on. Can you see a very faint image on the screen? If you can, most likely you’ll have to replace the inverter board.

Hello. I’m having a problem with a Toshiba Tecra A4 with the “volume wheel” on the front of the laptop, it seems the wheel is broken or loose, so every sound in my laptop right now is missing. Even when the volume in the system is at 100%. My guess is that the “volume wheel” on the front of the laptop controls physicly the volume, so it haves to be doing some how of connection. My question is, have you tried to deassembly that part from anther toshiba??, do i have to deassembly the whole laptop to get to that part, or is another easier method to fix it?? Kind Regards… Mario… by the way, nice tutorials you have!!
December 1st, 2007 at 12:42 am
Mario Rangel,
I believe this model is kinda similar to a Satellite M45 laptop. Probably you can use the same guide for disassembly, at least all major disassembly steps will be the same.
Unfortunately the volume wheel is permanently attached to the motherboard and I’ve never removed it from the motherboard myself.
Yep, you’ll have to take the whole thin apart and remove the motherboard.
December 14th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Hello Again!
I think I have found the correct power jack replacement for my 2455-s3001 but am still unsure which dual USB port I need for my model. I have found some that appear similar from the outside, but since it will be a full pull down I don’t want to pull it apart twice to take a look. The part is a dual USB with vertical slots with a screw in the middle of the slots. The video in jack sits to the right on my model and I am unsure if it is connected, as some of them are. Any thoughts? You do not have a 2455 teardown to the motherboard…what other model is close? Again, many thanks!
December 19th, 2007 at 10:48 am
i have a m105 s3041 and the screen has a red hue to it and some colors are distured on my lcd screen but when i connect it to my tv its a really nice picture,
do you have any idea why it would do this?
December 19th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Teresa,
No, I don’t have instructions for this model. Take a look at the Satellite 5105, it looks similar but I cannot promise it will be the same. I haven’t fixed older Toshiba laptops for a while and unfortunately do not remember all of them.
This instructions for resoldering laptop power jack might be useful.
December 19th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
mike hughes,
If the external monitor works fine then apparently the motherboard/video card is good. The problem is somewhere inside the display panel.
It’s possible that you have a loose connection between video cable, motherboard and LCD screen. Reconnecting the video cable on both motherboard and LCD screen might help.
If reseating cables doesn’t help, most likely you have either a bad video cable or defective motherboard. It’s hard to tell witch one is faulty without testing the laptop with another working LCD screen.

My Toshiba M60 has a split near the latch on the lid which has got bigger, now I need to replace the lid. This seems to be common on the M60 which Toshiba should take responsibility for. How would I go about locating a replacement lid and can I use the guides for the M65 or another model for installing it?
January 5th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Mario,
I just googled for Satellite M60 images and it looks like this model is similar to M65. You can use disassembly guide for M65.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Emma Hausmann,
Satellite M40X looks similar to M35X, I think both units use the same hardware.
From your description I would say you have a problem with the motherboard.
If you start a Toshiba Satellite M35X without any memory modules installed, it will give you a beep error. Something like 1short-3long-3long-1short, do not remember exactly. The laptop beeps when it “cannot see” memory.
I would assume that your Satellite M40X should give you the same error message, but you said that nothing happened after you removed RAM. To me it sounds like your laptop fails before it trying to detect installed memory.
I fixed hundreds of Satellite M35X and I think you have a bad motherboard.
laptop is getting power from the adapter, so i assume the adapter is good.
I don’t think that these parts will fix your problem.
Here’s what you can try.
It looks like you feel comfortable taking your laptop apart. Here’s what you can try.
Disassemble the laptop until you have only three major parts connected together:
Motherboard, processor and memory. The power switch is located on a separate board, so you’ll have to connect this board to the motherboard in order to turn on the laptop. If these parts are good, you should be able to start your laptop with an external monitor and boot it at least to the Toshiba logo on the external monitor.
You can try installing another known good memory module and see if it helps. If the laptop is still dead even after replacing the memory, most likely you have a problem with the motherboard. CPU failures are not very common, so I would go with the motherboard.

Thanks for the reply.
If there is no memory in PC i have a peep sound , this is normal.
I did take the laptop to a friend , he has memory and CPU ´s.
I think also the mainboard is dead because the intern VGA chip.
Its to expensive to buy some memory and other things just to try.
I work with love on a desktop , the parts are seperate and not so expensive and not hard to get.
A laptop is like a Swiss Clock with lots off clips and klik klak.
I let you now what the result was.
Goodbey and a ferry good weekend.

Great thanks, the M65 should do the trick. Just concerned about how I would remove the lcd from the cover so I could replace the back of it, if you could point me in the right direction that would be great.
Cheers

I’m trying to locate Slot B for memory on a Tecra A4-S313. Slot A is easily accessed, but they don’t show you where Slot B is. Any ideas when you will have a guide taking apart an A4?
January 22nd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Don,
If there is only one slot on the bottom then most likely the second one you’ll find under the keyboard. Take a look at the disassembly guide for a Toshiba Satellite M45. I believe both models have a lot of similarities. You’ll see how to get under the keyboard.

I have a Toshiba 2455-S305 that needs new hinges. I saw that you have a manual that is similar to my model. My question is does it really take all those steps to just replace the hinges? Is this a difficult fix for a novice? I don’t want to ruin my laptop trying to fix the hinges. Also what tips can you give me as far as any problems I may run into while repairing it?
Thanks, Diane
January 27th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Diane Masse,
These disassembly guides were designed for experienced people. I wouldn’t recommend replacing hinges yourself if you afraid to ruin your laptop.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio F10. It looks pretty similar to the F15 you dis-assembled. I took it apart a few weeks ago to re-align the DC connector. Wish I had come across your site first. I seem to have disconnected the sound cable strip at the end nearest to the screen. When I opened the laptop up today, I noticed it was lying loose but could not see what was supposed to hold the strip in place. I can see the connector the strip goes into, but the gap is too wide to hold the end of the strip in place, it only has a flat blue plastic tip at the end where the strip wires are. Is something missing? Should it have one of the little clips like there is on the keybord and blue tooth strips to hold the sound board strip in place and make a tight connection? The part I am talking about is on picture 15 of the F15 dis-assembly instructions, exactly where the arrow on the top right is pointing, the cable pushes directly down into a connection, but I fear something is missing. Site is fantastic by the way.

February 21st, 2008 at 4:42 am
Milo,
I don’t think that you can replace the graphics card on this model. I believe the graphics card is a part of the motherboard, it’s integrated into the motherboard.
February 21st, 2008 at 4:47 am
Mike,
if the chipset doesn’t support that, apparently you cannot upgrade.
As I know, the best CPU listed by Toshiba for this laptop is Pentium4 2.80GHZ

My P20 Toshiba screen has all of a sudden had millions of lines all over it – The VGA Out put works as I can connect it to a remote screen and watch it – how do I repair the VGA onboard chipÉ
March 12th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Toshiba Satellite M30-304 (UK) with onboard embedded GO5200 graphics card. From cold the unit works fine but after 5 mins warm up the graphics gradually deteriorate and eventually all will stop working. Unit gets pretty hot so I replaced the fan because it was working but making loud noises. No improvement other than now quiet. I notice if I reboot, the BIOS start up characters on screen then become very confused with totally random characters, and the XP Home welcome splash has degraded. Has reduced my laptop time to 5 minutes usage lol! Is it fair to say my motherboard is toast? Thanks for any input – great site!
March 12th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Sean,
It’s possible that there is nothing wrong with the video chip on the motherboard. Anyway, you cannot fix the video chip because it’s integrated into the motherboard, you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard.
Here’s what I would try before replacing the motherboard:
1. Reconnect the video cable on both ends, on the motherboard and on the LCD screen, just to make sure it’s not a connection relate issue.
2. Replace the video cable. From my experience the video cable on a Toshiba Satellite P20/P25 laptop is not very reliable and fails a lot. Replacing the video cable may fix your problem.
If 1 and 2 do not help, it’s related either to the motherboard or the LCD screen. Most likely to the LCD screen.
March 12th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Mark,
This one:
and this one
sound like a problem with the graphics card. I don’t think that you can fix it, you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Hello,
do you know if it’s possible to replace the original RAM (the one on the motherboard) of Toshiba R100 (not the added module) ? Mine is faulty..
Thanks
April 10th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
manila,
It’s possible if you know how to unsolder defective chips and replace them with new chips. Very few technicians can do that.
Check out this thread dedicated a Toshiba Satellite A65 laptop. This model also has onboard memory and it fails a lot. Some people (comment 93 for example) were able to physically remove the onboard memory and use the laptop only with the added module. I’m not sure if it will work for R100 but the idea is the same. Do it on your own risk, only as a last resort. You can destroy the motherboard.

Hi there
I have a Toshiba Satelite P100 – 188 PSA3E, Ive been trying to disconnect the touchpad from motherboard but cant see how i can, its not got no bracket to lift off, and theres another cable next to it which looks like it should just pull out but dont? any one know how??
cheers
jon
April 19th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Jon,
I don’t have this laptop in front of me but I believe that you have to pull the touchpad ribbon cable from the connector if there is not bracket to unlock the connector.
You install it back the same way, just push the cable inside the connector.
Be careful, work slowly

hi,my battery for laptop p100-434 has died is there anyway i can give it a charge?
April 29th, 2008 at 4:46 am
Satellite 1805, what would cause a no-boot, no-beep, no-bios screen condition, where all I see is a black screen with a white line on the left. I hear fans, lights show for power, battery, charging, etc. Will not boot from CD, nothing. Is it the screen or something? Is it worth even repairing?
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:19 pm
JOhnny5,
Test your laptop with an external monitor. Can you get picture on the external screen? If the laptop works fine with the external monitor but the internal screen is black with a white line, apparently you have a problem with the laptop LCD.
If both, external and internal screens fail the same way (black screen with white line), apparently your problem is related to the video card.
In both cases I don’t think this laptop is worth repairing. These parts will cost you tons of money, just spend then for a new laptop. These days you can find a brand new laptop with much better hardware and 1 year warranty for under $500.

On the Satellite A55-S106, is the second DIMM slot “user-accessible” or does the keyboard need to be removed in order to access the slot, similar to HP laptops?

I have a 5 y old 2450 satellite. The hard drive has seized and I wanted to replace it with a 120GB hitachi drive. Is it ok to do that or do i need to get a toshiba drive?
May 17th, 2008 at 7:55 am
My old laptop is a toshiba satallite l45. Could you post instructions for it because I am going to do a major over haul on it.
May 18th, 2008 at 11:03 am
John A,
Both slots can be accessed from the bottom, you don’t have to remove the keyboard.
May 18th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Deepyahoo.com,
If your laptop came with a hard dive larger then 20GB, then most likely it can handle any larger hard drive (40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 100GB and 120GB) without any problem. Any IDE hard drive should work fine, not just a Toshiba drive.
May 18th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Marvin,
I already took pictures for this laptop. Now I just need time to create a guide.

June 3rd, 2008 at 5:51 am
Hello,
I believe I have an overheating problem with my Satellite 1005 (similar to 1200), as it shuts down after only a few minutes of use. I removed the hd and DVD drive, and when I power on the laptop, it is completely silent, so I don’t believe the cooling fan(s) are functioning – I assume a fan should be spinning at power-up.
I’m trying to dis-assemble the laptop, following the guide to model 1200. I’m stuck at the point of removing the keyboard securing strip, as it doesn’t want to lift up more than 1/8″ or so. It feels like I would have to break it to remove it, so I’m afraid to apply any more pressure (prying it with a small screw driver). Is there a trick to removing this strip? Thanks in advance for your help!
June 4th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Patric,
The keyboard strip on a Toshiba Satellite 1005 is designed the same way as on a Satellite 1200. There are on hidden screws. Keep trying.

Do you know the closest to a Tecra A8? The Mrs has just given ours a coffee shower and I’m waiting for it to dry out before diving in.

First of all, Thank You, for an absolutely wonderful resource. My question is in reference to a Toshiba Portege 3500 tablet notebook. I have been to the Toshiba website and read most everything regarding this laptop, but cannot find the answer to two questions. Is this model capable of a video upgrade, under the keyboard, or is it integrated? I really would hate to start the disassembly of this laptop for no reason. Secondly, from the Toshiba site, the ‘Detailed Specs’ states that this particular laptop can be upgraded to 1024MB of SDRAM, but nowhere can I find a single module, to purchase, totaling 1024MB of SDRAM. This laptop/ tablet has only one memory module position. DO they make a 1024MB SDRAM with the proper specs to fit? Thank You again.
Best Regards…
Greg
June 21st, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Greg,
The video card in this laptop is integrated into the motherboard. You cannot remove, replace or upgrade the video card.
This laptop has TWO memory slots. One slot is located under the keyboard and another one you can access from the bottom. You can install up to 512MB memory module into each memory slot, that’s how you get 1024MB (1GB) total. You’ll have to use PC133 memory modules.
June 21st, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Mox,
I’m working on a guide for Tecra A9, it should be ready soon. I think this will be the closest model to a Tecra A8.

Hello, I am trying to take apart a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S1553. I have all visible screws removed but do not know where to go from there? The problem with it is: It runs fine unless you touch anywhere on it and it shuts down.

I was wondering if you or anyone has a manual for replace ing a Toshiba Satellite 2435 SystemBoard? I see an LCD Manual but no system board. Please let me know. Thanks!
July 7th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Hi there,
I was wondering if you can help. Basically the power from power supply is not going into my Toshiba Equium EA60 laptop. I tried with universal power supply and ordered a new battery and neither solved the problem. But both universal power supply and the battery would work on other machines! So my guess is something inside the machine has gone bad and I don’t know what I should replace so that I can make the machine work again.
Help please.

Sir, I was wondering if you can help me with a problem I’am having with my Toshiba A55-S1063? The problem just started and happens when I reboot. The following message appears: RTC battery is low or CMOS Checksum is inconsistent. Where is this battery and can I replace it myself? Any information would greatly be appreciated.
Thank You! Norma

Hi my Toshiba P100’s screen has line of dead pixel (line across the screen when in black) and I”m considering of ordering a replacement screen. Just wondering if there is any manual for it.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Tim,
It’s possible that you have a problem with the power jack, maybe it’s broken. Take a look at this thread dedicated to Satellite A60/A65: Toshiba Satellite A60 and A65 problems.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Norma,
Take a look at the disassembly guide. You can see the RTC battery in the step 22 in the top left corner, it’s hidden under protective clear plastic. In this model you can unplug the RTC battery and replace it with a new one. Search for this part number: P000309170
July 13th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Dave,
I haven’t worked on Portege R400 yet but I think the keyboard removal procedure will be the same as for Portege M205. Take a look at the disassembly guide for Portege M205 steps 4-7. You don’t have to disconnect the keyboard, just flip it over on the palm rest. You’ll find the second memory slot under the keyboard.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:58 am
alyn,
Could be anything: bad or loose memory, loose connection inside the laptop, failing motherboard, etc… It’s impossible to troubleshoot intermittent problem over the Internet.
July 13th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Go,
Take a look at the LCD removal instructions for Satellite P205, should be similar to P105.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Do you or anyone else have any tips on taking apart a Tecra A8? Is there a model that you already have a guide for that is similar? I started removing the screws from the bottom, but stopped when I realized it was probably more complicated than I bargained for. My fan is constantly running full blast, under minimal applications, but it’s been doing that ever since I bought it new a year ago. I just want to clean off the fan/heatsink and add new thermal compound. Thanks.
July 24th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Joe,
I’m working on a guide for Tecra A9. I think it’s similar to Tecra A8 but I haven’t finished it yet.
Also, there are some screws under the keyboard. They have to be removed too.
Try cleaning the fan without disassembling the laptop. Buy a can of compressed air and spray it inside the air intake on the laptop. You can replace thermal grease later.

Toshiba Portage M205 locks up. When I leave it off for a couple days it boot a little further. Today I was able to get online but it locked up a few minutes after making the connection. What could be causing this?
August 7th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I was using my Toshiba r15 closed the lid heard a crunch. Opened it back up heard another crunch. The hinge was protruding through the plastic. Do you see alot of problems like this with the hinges on the tablet?
August 10th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
LeAndre,
Yep, I’ve seen a lot of Satellite R15 Tablet PCs with a problem like that. It looks like the hinge is not very durable.
In this case I replace the whole cover assembly witch includes top cover, LCD cover, hinge and video cable.
August 10th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
LeAndre,
First, I would try replacing memory with another known good module and test the laptop again.
Also, run diagnostic test on the hard drive. You can use Hitachi’s drive fitness test.
August 16th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
I have a Satellite 1905-S301 and just got a wifi card for it. The system had the antenna installed but no card. I installed the card and driver and that worked. The card came up and the drivers installed. The problem I am having is that the card will not enable. When I try to turn the wireless on in the Intel PROSet untilty, it says “The Intel PROSet Wireless Network Connection is still disabled. Use your hardware switch to enable it.” The hardware switch is on, however. Did I do something wrong installing the card, or is there anything else I can do. I found a fix that said to disable pin 13 on the wireless card, which I did, however then it just didn’t detect the card.
Thanks!

i know this might sound really dumb. but i physically damaged my dvd ram drive.. i mean the CD slot area. I was wondering how i can repair/ replace my dvd ram drive
August 19th, 2008 at 1:49 am
oh i forgot to mention what model i have.. i have a toshia protege M 500 and the existing dvd ram drive is a matshita UJ-842S. i was wondering can i replace it with something other than matshita UJ-842s?
August 25th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Karen,
I haven’t worked on Portege M500 yet. I found some pictures for this model on Google and it looks like replacing the DVD drive shouldn’t be a problem. Most likely you’ll have to remove one or two screws on the bottom and pull the drive from the laptop.

Ivair,
I think you can use instructions for a Satellite M35X. M40X and M35X should be similar.
September 20th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Danny,
You can try cleaning the LCD screen as I did in this post:
How I took apart and repaired my notebook LCD screen with water damage
Be careful. If you accidentally damage the screen during while taking apart, you’ll have to buy a new one. Proceed on your own risk.

I have a Toshiba A100 -232 laptop. My brother was playing online game on it and suddenly the whole laptop just powered off. No lights are on, not even the power lights indicating its charging (the power cable was plugged in). I think the idiot just fried my laptop -.- I’ve currently unplugged everything and left it there to cool down because the laptop was extremely hot underneath. Today we had a kinda warm day suddenly, might have had sumthing to do with it. We can usually play that game nonstop without problems. I have never completely opened up a laptop before, only installed new RAM.
Please help me.

both hinges are broken on the computer (vs display) side of my wife’s laptop. Satellite A20-207. I can do the repair. Are other hinges compatible and what is a good parts reseller? Thanks
January 9th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
I called toshiba parts warehouse NPD for hinges for my A45-s120, they are very reasonable $30.00 for the left and $35.00 for the right + shipping $10.00, they will be here in 2 days. I would recommend NPD for anyone looking for A45-S120 hinges.

i have a satilite p205 6307. today i connected an external monitor to it and after a while both screens went garbled with with blue and white lines all over both screens with a high pitched screach coming from the speakers. the only way to stop it was to a hard reset. the laptop started again. a short time later it happed again so i did another hard reset. now a short time later both monitors went blank. i tried fn and f5 didnt help. i guess maybe the motherboard is faulty as the blue power light is on
January 25th, 2009 at 4:42 am
as i can not hear the fan or the hard drive spinning, only the power light comes on, also i have tried starting the pc without the battery and only using the power lead, i still have the same problem. the external monitor powers on but no picture and it goes back into stand by mode. my warranty ran out last september and it seems that only 1 year is given not the 2 as moentioned in previous articles, i did register mine online. can anyone plesae tell me if i am on the right track. i need to sort this out as soon as possible as im currently using my psp to browse the internet
thanks
January 26th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Dan Scarinzi,
I thought that Qosmio G15 and F15 are kinda similar. Aren’t they?
January 26th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
skinz,
I believe your laptop doesn’t have a discrete video card, it’s integrated into the motherboard. If that’s the case, I think you are right, there is a problem with the motherboard.
Just in case, try removing memory modules one by one and test the laptop with each one separately in each slot. I guess could be bad memory too.

I have a toshiba tecra m1 and my problem is that when i plug my power adapter into the laptop it switches the laptop off. I have tried to power up with the adapter already plugged in but it wont turn on. Also it will only power up from the battery when i have taken the battery out and then put it back in. (the battery is pretty flat). I have replaced the adapter and it has made no difference.
Before i go and spend more money on buying a new battery, has anyone had this issue before or know why this is happening?

sir, I have looked till i’am blue in the face, I contacted toshiba and they cannot or they will not help me. anyway sir, I have the toshiba A55-S1063 and my problem is when I boot up. I get a long drawn out message that says RTC BATTERY is low or the CMOS checksum is inconsistent, press f1 key to set time and date. Sir can you help me? Your guide is great but I did not see such a thing, Toshiba would not help me or maybe they don’t even know. I have even contacted 2 computer shops and they would not tell me anything. any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank You! Norma
March 19th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Norma i have this same message. It just means that your battery is flat. Try charging it. It wont hurt to press F1 and change time and date. Once time and date has been updated, exit CMOS and it will boot windows.
My problem is that i cant charge my battery because it switches the laptop off as soon as i plug it in. But im sure you will be able do as i have mentioned as i have previously done this.

change the small watch battery on the motherboard that is the rtc battery
March 31st, 2009 at 6:14 pm
in answer to my own question. I have found that it was the battery. I bought a replacment and everything is fine. Thanks for all your help.
March 31st, 2009 at 9:14 pm
gtz,
Because “equium” is not sold on the USA. Search for a similar Satellite version.
March 31st, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Steve,
I know that. Take a look at the first sentanse in the disassembly guide. It says:
Toshiba Tecra M2 laptop is very similar to Toshiba Tecra M3 and share the same disassembly steps. Here’s the main difference. Tecra M3 doesn’t have a memory slot that you access from the bottom of the laptop as it’s shown on the step 2. Both memory slots in Tecra M3 are located under the keyboard, as it shown on the step 3.

I think that your Equium A200 would be similar to Satellite A215.

i have •Toshiba Satellite U305-S5077 it work ok accapth the sound card not work properly i decided take it apart so i can look at the sound card but i put it back together and start it nothing come up normaly when i start it have toshiba screen . please help
June 27th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
David Bun,
The sound card in this laptop is integrated into the motherboard. The sound card cannot be removed and replaced separately.
Can you see any activity? Is the hard drive LED flashing at all?
If the laptop turn on but nothing happens, check if the memory module is seated correctly. Reconnect the memory module first and test the laptop again.
June 27th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Amre,
If there is only one memory slot on the bottom, the second one has to be somewhere under the keyboard (or palm rest). Take a look under the keyboard. Do you see a hatch? The second slot might be located under the hatch.

I’d like to know how to disasseMble the Toshiba A105 just enough to reMove the keyboard, not necessary to reMove Motherboard.
July 24th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Cher,
Go to the motherboard removal guide and follow steps 9-12. You don’t have to remove anything from the bottom of the laptop.

I have a p30, I used the guide to disassemble my laptop so that
I could use the air duster to clean out the dust in my fans. I put everything together
and now my powe turns on but I’m getting no display, no loading, nothing. The fan turns
on temporarily but shuts off after a few seconds. What did I do wrong?

is it possible te replace de video-card of a satellite p100-108
August 8th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
michel,
I know that some Satellite P100 laptops (unlike Satallite P105 laptops) have a discrete video card and the video card can be removed and replaced.
The video card is located under the motherboard. For the motherboard removal instructions for Satellite P105 you can go to http://www.Irisvista.com
I cannot tell if your laptop has a discrete video card, looks like it’s not a US model.
I believe you can see the video card if you remove the memory cover from the bottom. Remove the cover and look inside. You’ll see the motherboard. If there is another board between the motherboard and laptop base, most likely it’s the video card.
August 8th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
aj,
Did you remove memory modules during the disassembly process? If you did, make sure they are seated correctly. Try reconnecting memory modules.
August 27th, 2009 at 7:46 am
hey,
I have a problem with my TOSHIBA A200 PORTEGE laptop. It is showing a blue screen in which it tells that it has got a hardware problem. Might be the contacts are loosened. Because the laptop boots without any problem if a pat it lightly at the back. Please help me. Im sick of this !
thank you in advance
August 27th, 2009 at 8:07 am
Nix,
It’s possible that one of the memory modules is not making good contact with the slot. Try reconnecting memory modules. Try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each memory module in each slot separately. Might help to narrow down the problem.
Also, try reconnecting the hard drive.

Have you had any experience with Toshiba Tecra M1’s? I managed to upgrade the memory, but it has a noisy cooling fan, and I’d like to replace it. Does it have internal similiarities to any other models? (M2, M3..etc.)
August 28th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Greg,
Yes, I fixed many of them but it was 3-4 years ago. In a Tecra M1 the cooling fan is mounted under the motherboard, so you’ll have to disassemble the whole laptop and remove the motherboard to get access to the fan. The fan is screwed to the base.
Tecra M1 have some similarities with M2 but still it’s a different unit.
August 30th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
Hello,
I need to replace the left hinge of my TECRA M1, was looking for a disassembly manual for M1, is there any place it can be downloaded free?
I saw some paid ones but they seems ended before reach to hinge replacement.
Thanks!

Ok, i got the new motherboard for my Toshiba M40, the diffrence between this one and the one i have is that the new one has integrated video card. My question is since the new motherboard doesnt have the slot where you plug in the video card, do i have to remove the bracket that holds down the video card, or i can leave it in? The bracket is loose and moving all over the place, one end of the bracket goes inside the fan assembly(yellow color). I can easily remove it.
October 1st, 2009 at 6:05 pm
alex,
You said the bracket is loose and moving all over the place? Is it touching the motherboard. If it does, you’d better remove the bracket until it short something and fry the motherboard.

I have a Toshiba M105 laptop that works GReAT except that the manual wireless switch (that turns the adapter on and off) just stopped working. The adapter is recognized in the device manager but I am not able to use it because the stupid manual switch “went out.” Is there a way to bypass this manual switch? It is aggravating to say the least.

Mamdouh,
Sounds like a problem with the video card but I’m not sure 100%.
October 25th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
Tony,
Replacing LCD screens will be similar for most Toshiba laptops.

I have a Toshiba Portege 3500 that when in tablet mode the display is fine. When it is flipped around where you can use the keyborad it goes blank!
Any easy fixes! or instructions on how to get to the probelm and fix myself!
November 9th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Mike,
First of all, check connection between the video cable and motherboard. Maybe the connection is loose and reseating the cable will help.
Here are instructions for taking apart a Toshiba Portege 3500 Tablet PC.
Access the video cable connection on the motherboard as it shown in the Step 8 and try reconnecting the cable. Make sure the cable is plugged all the way into the connector.

i have a satellite m505-s4945. under the cover where the wifi card is installed is another connector port. is this for the bluetooth card? or for the mobile air card? also what will be the toshiba part number for the bluetooth card? If this extra port is for the aircard then bestbuy person removed it. so I have to take this laptop back
November 16th, 2009 at 11:46 am
albert,
Does it look the same as the wireless card port? Most likely it’s for a WWAN card (connect to the Internet using cellular tower).
For Satellite M505-S4945 the Bluetooth module part number is: H000010170
November 16th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Thank you for your response. Yes, it is a minipci connector like the wifi connector however the space between this connector and the hold downstuds for a card is 1/2 the space that is available for the wifi card that is installed. If it is for the WWAN card, then I need to talk to the store that sold it because someone removed the card and I paid for it I was going to activate WWAN later. By the way the sim card is installed under tha battery, Would not the WWAN card be in that location on this model M505-S4945. Also, would you have a pic of the bluetooth module Part number H000010170.?
November 16th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Albert,
I’ve seen some new minipci wireless cards which are half size of the normal card. I guess they could do the same with WWAN cards. Just a guess.
This model is too new for me. I haven’t worked on many of them. I’ll take some pictures as soon as I get one for repair.
So far I only replaced the LCD screen in Satellite M505. Take a look at http://www.irisvista.com
