How to take apart and repair Toshiba laptops yourself
The following laptop step-by-step disassembly manuals I have created myself. You can use them if you have a Toshiba laptop and want to repair or upgrade it yourself. You shouldn’t disassemble your laptop if you have no experience with computers because you can easily damage it. Also, you shouldn’t open it if the laptop is still under warranty. I’m still developing new laptop teardown guides and my goal is to add new guides every week. If you do not see a manual for your model, most likely I will add it later. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the reply.
If there is no memory in PC i have a peep sound , this is normal.
I did take the laptop to a friend , he has memory and CPU ´s.
I think also the mainboard is dead because the intern VGA chip.
Its to expensive to buy some memory and other things just to try.
I work with love on a desktop , the parts are seperate and not so expensive and not hard to get.
A laptop is like a Swiss Clock with lots off clips and klik klak.
I let you now what the result was.
Goodbey and a ferry good weekend.

Emma Hausmann,
Satellite M40X looks similar to M35X, I think both units use the same hardware.
From your description I would say you have a problem with the motherboard.
If you start a Toshiba Satellite M35X without any memory modules installed, it will give you a beep error. Something like 1short-3long-3long-1short, do not remember exactly. The laptop beeps when it “cannot see” memory.
I would assume that your Satellite M40X should give you the same error message, but you said that nothing happened after you removed RAM. To me it sounds like your laptop fails before it trying to detect installed memory.
I fixed hundreds of Satellite M35X and I think you have a bad motherboard.
laptop is getting power from the adapter, so i assume the adapter is good.
I don’t think that these parts will fix your problem.
Here’s what you can try.
It looks like you feel comfortable taking your laptop apart. Here’s what you can try.
Disassemble the laptop until you have only three major parts connected together:
Motherboard, processor and memory. The power switch is located on a separate board, so you’ll have to connect this board to the motherboard in order to turn on the laptop. If these parts are good, you should be able to start your laptop with an external monitor and boot it at least to the Toshiba logo on the external monitor.
You can try installing another known good memory module and see if it helps. If the laptop is still dead even after replacing the memory, most likely you have a problem with the motherboard. CPU failures are not very common, so I would go with the motherboard.

Mario,
I just googled for Satellite M60 images and it looks like this model is similar to M65. You can use disassembly guide for M65.

My Toshiba M60 has a split near the latch on the lid which has got bigger, now I need to replace the lid. This seems to be common on the M60 which Toshiba should take responsibility for. How would I go about locating a replacement lid and can I use the guides for the M65 or another model for installing it?

Hello first off all Happy new year.
We are from Belguim and sorry for my bad Englisch.
My frinds laptop satelite M40X-251 has a total black screen when i pusch the start button.

Then i removed the battery , Dvd , Hd separly and retry no cure.
Then i refitted de screen connector lcd on mainboard no cure.
I refitted the lcd inverter inside the lcd no cure.
I replaced memory under keyboard on the backside laptop no cure.
I also removed all memory no cure.
I disconnet the the lcd connector from the mainboard and connect a extern monitor no cure.

mike hughes,
If the external monitor works fine then apparently the motherboard/video card is good. The problem is somewhere inside the display panel.
It’s possible that you have a loose connection between video cable, motherboard and LCD screen. Reconnecting the video cable on both motherboard and LCD screen might help.
If reseating cables doesn’t help, most likely you have either a bad video cable or defective motherboard. It’s hard to tell witch one is faulty without testing the laptop with another working LCD screen.

Teresa,
No, I don’t have instructions for this model. Take a look at the Satellite 5105, it looks similar but I cannot promise it will be the same. I haven’t fixed older Toshiba laptops for a while and unfortunately do not remember all of them.
This instructions for resoldering laptop power jack might be useful.

Hello Again!
I think I have found the correct power jack replacement for my 2455-s3001 but am still unsure which dual USB port I need for my model. I have found some that appear similar from the outside, but since it will be a full pull down I don’t want to pull it apart twice to take a look. The part is a dual USB with vertical slots with a screw in the middle of the slots. The video in jack sits to the right on my model and I am unsure if it is connected, as some of them are. Any thoughts? You do not have a 2455 teardown to the motherboard…what other model is close? Again, many thanks!

Mario Rangel,
I believe this model is kinda similar to a Satellite M45 laptop. Probably you can use the same guide for disassembly, at least all major disassembly steps will be the same.
Unfortunately the volume wheel is permanently attached to the motherboard and I’ve never removed it from the motherboard myself.
Yep, you’ll have to take the whole thin apart and remove the motherboard.
