How to take apart and repair Toshiba laptops yourself

The following laptop step-by-step disassembly manuals I have created myself. You can use them if you have a Toshiba laptop and want to repair or upgrade it yourself. You shouldn’t disassemble your laptop if you have no experience with computers because you can easily damage it. Also, you shouldn’t open it if the laptop is still under warranty. I’m still developing new laptop teardown guides and my goal is to add new guides every week. If you do not see a manual for your model, most likely I will add it later. Stay tuned.

    Marvin,

My old laptop is a toshiba satallite l45. Could you post instructions for it because I am going to do a major over haul on it.

I already took pictures for this laptop. Now I just need time to create a guide.

    Deepyahoo.com,

I have a 5 y old 2450 satellite. The hard drive has seized and I wanted to replace it with a 120GB hitachi drive. Is it ok to do that or do i need to get a toshiba drive?

If your laptop came with a hard dive larger then 20GB, then most likely it can handle any larger hard drive (40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 100GB and 120GB) without any problem. Any IDE hard drive should work fine, not just a Toshiba drive.

    John A,

On the Satellite A55-S106, is the second DIMM slot “user-accessible” or does the keyboard need to be removed in order to access the slot, similar to HP laptops?

Both slots can be accessed from the bottom, you don’t have to remove the keyboard.

    JOhnny5,
Test your laptop with an external monitor. Can you get picture on the external screen? If the laptop works fine with the external monitor but the internal screen is black with a white line, apparently you have a problem with the laptop LCD.
If both, external and internal screens fail the same way (black screen with white line), apparently your problem is related to the video card.
In both cases I don’t think this laptop is worth repairing. These parts will cost you tons of money, just spend then for a new laptop. These days you can find a brand new laptop with much better hardware and 1 year warranty for under $500.

Satellite 1805, what would cause a no-boot, no-beep, no-bios screen condition, where all I see is a black screen with a white line on the left. I hear fans, lights show for power, battery, charging, etc. Will not boot from CD, nothing. Is it the screen or something? Is it worth even repairing?
