The following laptop step-by-step disassembly manuals I have created myself. You can use them if you have a Toshiba laptop and want to repair or upgrade it yourself. You shouldn’t disassemble your laptop if you have no experience with computers because you can easily damage it. Also, you shouldn’t open it if the laptop is still under warranty. I’m still developing new laptop teardown guides and my goal is to add new guides every week. If you do not see a manual for your model, most likely I will add it later. Stay tuned.

    Noah,
When you have no backlight, it could be just a bad FL inverter board and it’s not necessary to replace the entire screen. Take a look at this post: troubleshooting laptop video problems.
It’s possible to replace the entire display assembly but I cannot give you instructions because I don’t know the model of your laptop. If it’s Toshiba, you can find some help if you follow the links above. If it’s Dell, HP or IBM, you can find instructions on their websites.

I have an LCD on my laptop that is too dark to see and is worthless. It would be to expensive to replace the LCD and i have another moniter for it, so i want to take the whole screen and frame (the whole thing that is on the hinges, i dont exactly know what to call it) to get it out of the way. How would i do this?

    Iam,
Toshiba website doesn’t have drivers for CD drives. If your CD/DVD drive is in a good working condition, Windows should detect it and install a proper driver automatically. If you have a yellow exclamation mark in front of CD drive in the device manager, right click and uninstall the driver. After that reboot the laptop and see if your problem is fixed.
If you cannot see your CD/DVD drive in My Computer, check out this post.

Here’s my new guide: Toshiba Satellite P10 and P15. How to access and remove laptop hard drive.
The hard drive in Satellite A35 is located in the same spot – under the DVD drive.

    Hello cj2600,

First of all, congratulation for your great job (I like your website, it’s
    really help)!
I fixed a couple of problems of my Toshiba laptop Satellite A35-2009 for
    overhead problem.

I just would like to change my hard drive but, I do not know where the hard
drive located inside my Satellite A35-S2009.

Is it under keyboard cover or under the laptop (Turn the unit upside down ).
Please could you tell me where is the hard drive located for that model
    A35-S209!

    Thank in advance!

You don’t have to open the DVD drive door and remove any screw inside. The screw that secures the drive could be accessed without opening the drive. It’s just above the optical drive assembly, close to the center. Remove this screw and slide the entire assembly out. I believe that under the drive you’ll find a metal plate and have to remove it too (4 screws) before you can access the hard drive.
