I want to replace a failed part in the Toshiba laptop myself. How can I find the part number?
If your Toshiba laptop is not under warranty anymore and you have decided to open and repair it yourself , then you should know how to find a part number for the laptop part you want to replace. Almost every part and cable in Toshiba laptops has its own part number and should be replaced only with the same part or a substitute part. To find the part number look for a sticker or for a sign on the part. Toshiba part number would be something like V000040870, A000004270, P000343780, etc. After you find the part number you can search here.
If you cannot find a part number for your Toshiba laptop, I can help you. Just leave me a comment with the part name you are looking for, the laptop model name and the laptop model number. For example: laptop model name Toshiba Satellite A75-S211 and laptop model number PSA70U-0WK00G. This information is located on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop.
I would be able to help to find a part number only for laptops sold in the USA.
Here are more tips for finding a correct part for your notebook.
UPDATE:
I just started a new project - free laptop repair related classifieds.
You can see this site here: Any Notebook Part
If you are selling new or used laptop parts, used laptops, you can place your ad on this site. It’s free.
You can request parts too, maybe somebody has them for sale.

Gregory,
Sorry, I cannot help you with the Canadian model.
The best way would be removing the screen (it takes about 10 minutes) and searching for the part number on the back of the LCD. After that you can find a new screen using the original part number.

Santo,
That sounds like connection related problem. If you removed the heat sink, it’s possible that you pulled the CPU from the socket. Remove the heat sink and reseat the CPU. Make sure it’s locked inside the socket.
Also, check the memory module. Make sure it’s seated correctly. Reconnect the memory module.

The display on our Toshiba Satellite A100 model # PSAANC -VA305C is very broken. I’m using my NEC external right now.
I’m in Ontario Canada and would like to look for a good used replacement localy if you could shoot me the right part numbers.
The wife won’t let me open it up until I have a new one sitting here.
Thanks.
Greg

Amanda,
In this model the power jack is not soldered to the motherboard, you can unplug it from the motherboard and replace with a new one without soldering. You can find a new power jack (DC-IN harness) if you search for this part number: V000917470

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-265. The Model Number it PSM40U-07V001. I was told that my AC Adapter jack on my computer is loose. The person who looked at it was unable to tell me if the AC Adapter was soldered to the motherboard or not. I am aware that if it is soldered, it will be a costly repair and would be better off buying a new computer. However if not attatched, it would be less expensive and I would not have to buy a new computer. Do you know if it is attached or not or where I can find out without paying someone? thanks :0

Surya,
It’s possible there is bad connection between the CD/DVD drive and the motherboard. Try reconnecting the drive. Remove it from the laptop and then install back in. Test the drive.
Yes, it’s possible that the drive is going bad. You can replace the drive yourself, it’s not difficult. You’ll find disassembly instructions for Satellite M45 at www.irisvista.com
Take a look at the disassembly steps 6 and 7. All you have to do is remove one screw on the bottom of the laptop and then pull the drive from the laptop.

Malia,
Could be loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. Try reconnecting the cable.
I secure the video cable by placing clear tape above the connector.

Dadblastit! I’m back! I got the replacement…it’s all genuine, and the numbers match and everything…was absolutely unbelievably incredibly fantastic AT FIRST. The next morning when I lifted the lid, the LCD is flickering…if I change the default pixels, it will stop, but what could be the real problem here? I got the exact same thing! Help……………….I’m so frustrated!

I have a Toshiba M45-S331
Recently my system tries to access CD drive even when CD is not present and it just uses the computer resources for few minutes not allowing me to do any thing. This mostly happens during startup and when waking up from hibernation.
Also sometimes it does not play cd/dvd and I cannot even eject the CD. One time I saw it disappear from Device Manager.
Do you think the drive has gone bad? If I need to change it is it something that I can do it myself (I am tech savvy).
Lastly, does anyone know the part number and where can I order it from?
Thank you.
