If your Toshiba laptop is not under warranty anymore and you have decided to open and repair it yourself , then you should know how to find a part number for the laptop part you want to replace. Almost every part and cable in Toshiba laptops has its own part number and should be replaced only with the same part or a substitute part. To find the part number look for a sticker or for a sign on the part. Toshiba part number would be something like V000040870, A000004270, P000343780, etc. After you find the part number you can search here.
If you cannot find a part number for your Toshiba laptop, I can help you. Just leave me a comment with the part name you are looking for, the laptop model name and the laptop model number. For example: laptop model name Toshiba Satellite A75-S211 and laptop model number PSA70U-0WK00G. This information is located on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop.
I would be able to help to find a part number only for laptops sold in the USA.
Here are more tips for finding a correct part for your notebook.
UPDATE:
I just started a new project – free laptop repair related classifieds.
You can see this site here: Any Notebook Part
If you are selling new or used laptop parts, used laptops, you can place your ad on this site. It’s free.
You can request parts too, maybe somebody has them for sale.

I would like to put a Toshiba M200 digitizer behind my iBook 12″ lcd. Can you tell me how the digitizer connects to the Toshiba mobo (serial, usb…) and if you think it is possible to connect it to an iBook?
thanks much
April 13th, 2006 at 6:19 pm
Hey Alex,
I am 99.99% positive that you cannot use a Toshiba M200 digitizer for iBook. Here is a guide for removing and replacing Toshiba Portege M200 digitizer.

Do you know anything about toshiba satellite model m55-3294 having heat issues? Mine seems to be really warm in the area where the hard drive is located. Thanks!
April 15th, 2006 at 9:20 am
Hi Rex,
I think all you can do is search for a new updated driver on Linkys website.
April 15th, 2006 at 9:29 am
Hi highspeeddirt,
I haven’t seen Toshiba Satellite M55 with heat issue yet. You can easily clean the heatsisnk and the fan if you remove the keyboard from the lapop (Steps 1,6,7,8,9,11). If the laptop is warm in the area of the hard drive, it is possible that hard drive will fail soon.
I guess your laptop is still under Toshiba warranty. Take it or ship it to a Toshiba repair center and mention your problem with a hot hard drive. They will replace it. Do not open the laptop case yourself if it is still under warranty, it will void the warranty.

Hi,
I just purchased a Toshiba A75-S206 and am kicking myself for buying it. I have a feeling the screen is on its way out. The original issue was the power plug. I have changed it. The machine itself works great. However, in the upper left hand corner at the login screen is a large circle. The screen is physically in good condtion. Doesn’t even have a scratch. I can boot into the BIOS and hookup an external monitor without this “circle” there. When you logon, the circle goes away. But some of the lines are still present. I’m trying to figure out if its a hardware issue (which I’m leaning towards) or a driver issue. My guess is it’s either an inverter or the screen itself. Anyone else have this problem before? you can see the pictures at:
http://www.wgpcgeek.com/toshiba
I have the originals and the ones I’ve resized posted.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:36 pm
Hi Alexander,
It is not the FL inverter problem. FL inverter provides the power to the backlight bulb and when it goes bad you loose the backlight. First of all I would try to upgrade the video driver. It could be a corrupted or incorrect video driver. It might be necessary to reload Windows OS. Not sure about pink interference lines, never seen it before.
April 18th, 2006 at 9:38 pm
How does one get ahold of you for additional repair work when you don’t have a contact page?
I have some work I’d like to get done and/or have your help and I don’t see any post that I could comment on that fits.
Let me know. Thanks!
April 20th, 2006 at 6:36 am
Hi Guys,
I am not sure this post belongs here, so I will make it quick!
Does anyone know how you disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board? I have tried and it seems to be holding tight. Is there a ‘knack’ to it?
Many thanks,
Nick
April 20th, 2006 at 11:59 pm
Hi Nick,
In most cases the keyboard cable is locked inside the connector on the system board. To remove the cable you have to open the connector. The connector has 2 parts. One part is attached to the system board permanently, the second part is a lock. Here you can find an example how to disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board. Scroll down to ZIF connector. Your connector could be different.

Hi All,
I reloaded windows and still have a problem. Once I re-mounted the screen after changing the plug, I did realize, you can see spots and lines when in the BIOS. I have updated my BIOS from 1.10 to 1.50 I even swaped the screen and inverter for kicks with a known good ones. Still, I get the weird bulls eye and lines. The kid I bought this machine from had some body attempt to fix it. This person did a real number on the machine. Put screws in the wrong place etc. I have dis-assembled this entire machine from top to bottom and can’t find anything shorted. Other then the screen there is absolutly nothing else wrong with it. Any Ideas what might be wrong with the screen?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S1292 laptop with a fan problem. The fan makes an awful noise after only a few seconds after kicking on & then it just shuts off. A couple of minutes of this & I get a warning from Windows that my cooling sys isn’t operating correctly & I should shut down. I’ve cleaned the dust/lint from the intake & the fan itself, & that doesn’t work. Seems like there might be a bearing shot in the fan unit itself b/c it sounds like the fan is scraping something. Anyway, is there a way I can get a replacement fan? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

Update:
I have tried my laptop on an enternal monitor. It worked perfectly.
Thanks

April 23rd, 2006 at 8:35 am
Hi Tim,
The fan part number for Toshiba Satellite A15 is: P000377310
The chipset fan on ebay was about $100. After a quick search on google, I found it for $39 here.
Here is a disassembly manual for Toshiba Satellite A10 and A15.
Good luck!
April 23rd, 2006 at 8:51 am
Alexander,
External video is fine, so most likely it is not the system board problem. You have the same bad video when you use a good known LCD screen and FL inverter. Right? It tells me that the LCD screen itself is good. So, there is only one part that connects the display module with the system board – the video cable. I would try to replace the video cable next. Not sure what else could be wrong. I guess it is possible that hey damaged the connector for the LCD cable on the system board. Also it is possible that they damaged a circuit on the system board responsible for the video output on LCD screen. Not sure, it is just my guess. But I would definitely try to swap the video cable; most likely it is your problem.
April 23rd, 2006 at 1:34 pm
Thanks a bunch! When I went to the link you provided, the vendor only listed the A15-S1291 as a compatible model. I have the A15-S1292. Are these two models essentially the same and thus the P000377310 fan would work on either model?
Thanks,
Tim
April 23rd, 2006 at 3:52 pm
Hey All,
Thanks for the help. I fixed the issue. One of the pins on the system board where the screen connects was bent. I straightend it and plugged in the screen and it works perfect.
Thanks,
Alexander

Hey Tim,
P000377310 hinge will work for all Satellite A15 flavors.
April 23rd, 2006 at 11:13 pm
I have a Satellite M55 and it’s currently running Phoenix BIOS v1.70.
According to Toshiba’s website there isn’t an update for it but I’ve found that the Toshiba site sometimes is behind on updates, example it said there wasn’t a video driver update for my machine but the Intel site had one from just a couple weeks ago.
Anyway, can you confirm if there is a BIOS update to v1.70? I’ve heard there was one which would help with fine tuning my machine.
Thanks in advance!
April 24th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
Highspeeddirt,
I can check for the latest BIOS update for your laptop if you give me the laptop model. For example Satellite M55-S2253. Each model has different BIOS versions.
April 24th, 2006 at 11:39 pm
It’s a Toshiba Satellite M55-S3294. Currently running Phoenix BIOS v1.70.
Standing by for your reply. Thanks!
April 25th, 2006 at 8:21 am
There is no BIOS update for Toshiba Satellite M55-S3294 on Toshiba tech website. Moreover, there is no downloads for BIOS at all, even for v1.70. I guess you are supposed to run whatever you have.
April 25th, 2006 at 3:41 pm
I read your guide to replacing the LCD hinges on my A45, and I’m sure I could do it… but where do you buy the parts? A quick search on eBay found me something that sounded like a hinge for an A75, but it was like $120!!! Seems to me, these should be 25 cent parts, so that can’t be right.
Poking around on Toshiba’s site I didn’t find where you can buy replacement OEM parts either.
April 26th, 2006 at 6:02 am
Mark,
Hinges are expensive. I was able to find hinges for Toshiba Satellite A45 here for under $70. That’s a good price. Make sure to buy correct hinges. It looks like 2 different types are listed for Satellite A45.
For laptop with letter “C” stamped on Base in battery area:
Left hinge: P000392250
Right hinge: P000392260
For laptop with letter “S” stamped on Base in battery area:
Left hinge: P000394150
Right hinge: P000394160
Contact a seller to confirm that the hinge you buy will fit your into your computer.

Thanks for all the wonderful info on this site. Have a Toshibal P35 and have discovered there is a problem with the video cable. Not sure how to crack the LCD case? and do not know what the Part number for the video cable is. The lap top model # is PA3373U-1MPC.
Thanks

Second question RE P35 Lap Top error. After Boot there is an error screen which reads.
Toshiba Power Saver
X A fatal error has occured. This program will be terminated.
Code: 0X0
Any thoughts? All ideas is appreaciated
Steven
April 27th, 2006 at 8:52 pm
Hey Will,
Unfortunately you cannot use the BIOS password removal tool to clear the password. With Toshiba Satellite M30 and M35 there is only one way to clear the password – to get a special code from Toshiba. You can try to call to Toshiba and explain your situation.
April 27th, 2006 at 9:05 pm
Hi Steven,
Here is a guide I’ve created for opening Toshiba Satellite P30 and P35 case. I haven’t created a guide for disassembling the LCD screen for this model, so you can use Toshiba Satellite P25 guide for example.
I can look up the video cable part number, but you gave me a wrong part number. The laptop model number is located on the same sticker as the serial number. For example:
Toshiba Satellite P35-S605 PSP30U-21V001.
To fix a problem with Toshiba Power Saver software I would try to uninstall it first. Then you can download it again from Toshiba website and reinstall. If it doesn’t help, I would uninstall it and use the Windows software instead. Also you can backup all important data and run a Toshiba restore DVD to revert the laptop software back to original factory defaults.

Hi
RAM has gone in my Toshiba A60 (PSA 65E) looking for the motherboard part number – or compatible boards from the toshiba range – seen many screen damaged Equiums on ebay – but not many SA pro’s!
thanks in advance

You seem like a helpful guy.
I’ve got a Satellite A45-S150 with a SDR2412 CDROM drive that wont spin up after you put a disk in it. The computer says that the device is working properly. I’ve tried every software/driver troubleshooting fix but nothing seems to work. I’d like to replace the SDR2412 myself if I could get some instructions. I’ve never replaced one before.
Also, could you tell me if the SDR2612 is a compatable fit (no one at Toshiba could give me an answer).
Thanks
May 1st, 2006 at 10:56 pm
Jeff,
If your laptop was sold in the USA I can help you to find a part number for the system board, but I need more information about the laptop:
Example: Satellite A60-S156 and the laptop part number PSA60U-02201D. I need this information to find the system board that fits your laptop; there is more then one board for Satellite A60 family.
May 1st, 2006 at 11:04 pm
Mike,
I have created a Toshiba Satellite A45 disassemblly guide. You can see how to remove the drive on the step 6. Before you replace it try to reseat it. Sometimes a loose connection can cause the problem. There is no way to say if SDR2612 will work in your laptop. To find a replacement for your drive you should use a part number from the drive. Something like P000379290. Find the part number and search for it on ebay or through Google.

cj2600 – it is a UK model A60 – presumably different to the US version?
the part no is PSA65E-01H00U8K
if you can find out anything it would be much appreciated, toshiba uk will only send me to thier re-seller who wants to charge the price of a new laptop to install & supply the board!
thanks for your help

Thanks LRG,
I’ll give it a try.
May 3rd, 2006 at 7:42 pm
LRG — some feedback,
The dissassembly guide worked great, but unfortunately reseating the drive did not fix it. FYI – in addition to the part number, the people that I ordered the drive from needed to know if it was a “Master/Slave” or not. (”M/S” is printed on the unit).
Thanks again.

Hello,
I have been experiencing cooling problems with my toshiba satellite m35x-s329, psa72u-00v00u. I am about to take it apart (the warranty period is over) and clean out the heatsink/fan assembly and possibly apply thermal grease between the processor and heatsink to see if that helps, as per many posts on your site. However, I think the fan may be going bad, as it makes a grinding sound when it turns on. I am wondering what the part number may be for just the fan itself if I need to replace it. I have seen entire heatsink/fan assemblies, but I would just like to replace the fan if it is the only part that is actually broken.
Thanks in advance.
May 9th, 2006 at 10:30 pm
Dan,
If you want to replace the fan on Toshiba Satellite M35X laptop, you have to replace the entire cooling module which includes the heatsink and the fan. Toshiba doesn’t offer the fan as a separate part. Just in case, the part number for the thermal module: K000019100.
May 10th, 2006 at 11:50 am
I need the part number for the CCFL used in Portege 2000 (12.1”). Is there a way to find it out without taking the laptop apart? Thanks, Irina
May 10th, 2006 at 1:27 pm
I am looking to replace the keyboard for my Toshiba Satellite 5150-S701. I found the replacement part but was looking around your site for instructions as to how to do it for this model. Do you have anything specific to this model Satellite? Any help would be appreciated!! Also, I know my way around desktops and have taken them apart and repaired, upgraded, etc. I haven’t worked with a laptop before. Should I just cough up the dough to have BestBuy or whomever is local do it? Thoughts? I use this for work so it’s important that it’s done right. THANKS!!
May 10th, 2006 at 2:17 pm

Joanne,
I do not have a guide for Toshiba Satellite 5150. I guess you can use Toshiba Satellite 5105 disassembly guide just follow steps 5 through 8. If it looks scary, then it’s better to take it to a laptop repair shop.

I have a Toshiba M35X-S349 part# PSA72U-00W00X
I have broken the clap/clip that holds the ribbon cable from the keyboard to the motherboard. Is there a part # for this piece. Any suggestion on where to find the part?
Thanks
May 11th, 2006 at 9:53 am
Bruce,
There is no part number for this clip and you cannot buy it separately. I guess the only way to fix it is to buy a used not working motherboard and take the clip from it. Witch part did you break, the moving part itself or the part that is connected to the system board permanently?
Sometimes, when one leg on the clip is broken, you still can use the connector. You put the cable inside and jam it with the clip. After that put a tape over the connector to keep it in place.

I have a laptop tecra 8100 it get a hard hit, now the screen is dark i see the windows login but very dark. If i connect external monitor it work perfect. Can you help me to get a idea what could be the damage and possible fix??
Thank
May 12th, 2006 at 8:45 am
Nelson,
I have created Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop display disassembly instructions and you can use them to troubleshoot the laptop.
I think you might experience the following problems:
1. FL inverter cables got loose and should be reseated.
2. FL inverter is bad and should be replaced.
3. CCFL (backlight lamp) on the screen is bad and should be replaced.
I would try to take the display assembly apart and reseat cables on the FL inverter board first. I would also try to reseat the video cable on the system board.

I have a toshiba satellite A15 that has a hinge that won’t stay. I’m not sure when this started so I don’t know if it has been dropped or not. I’ve read your walkthrough on disassembling a15 but the problem is I don’t know if I need a new hinge or not and I don’t want to take it apart before I know what I need to do with it. Is there a part I can get that will replace the hinge so that it will stay in a position, or is there someone I can fix the one I already have. Thanks a bunch.

I just unsuccessfully attempted a repair on a Toshiba M35X-s149 power jack. My wife had been using various techniques to pus the plug in so it would charge and she brought it to me last night with the plug completely shoved into the laptop. I took it apart and soldered it back into place but I noticed that the + hole in the mother board had no pads on it. So I have two questions. 1. Did this motherboard ever had pads on the + hole for the power socket? 2. Is there a way to run a hard wire from the post on the socket to another point on the MB? I am afraid when she dislodged the socket from the MB she damaged the interconnections.
Thanks for you help.
May 25th, 2006 at 6:04 pm
Hello, I own a toshiba m35x-s329. Part #psa72u-00v00u. I recently took it apart to resolder the connection for the charger plug. Ever since I did that it is acting weird. It powers up about only 10% of the time. The other times, the blue led light on the power button comes on, I hear the fan running and it starts to boot up.
After about 4-5 seconds it stops booting up. I can still hear the fan running but nothing happents. At other times, it boots up and as soon as I pick it up or move it then the screen goes black. At times you can see the hard drive led is on. Either way I thought it was a screen problem. I have replaced the screen and it still does the same. I called toshiba and they would not help me without charging me $65 for tech support. It is out of warranty. Any help you can give me would be a great help.
May 26th, 2006 at 11:38 am
had a problem 2 days ago with my screen too small and the lite going off soon after I connected to web. Your help was appreciated, but my laptop was not responding at all to any commands. Had to take it in and they said a drive needed to be replaced. I had downloaded a microsoft drive into a toshiba laptop and apparently that doesnt work. I am new at all this. Thanks for your help-am glad to know you are out there when needed.

I have a toshiba a15-s1292. The display works for about 15 seconds then shuts off. It works fine with a external moniter hooked up. I have tried replacing the motherboard and fl inverter.
These changes made no difference, I have also downloaded and installed the latest video drivers. Any sugestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.
Thank you,
May 28th, 2006 at 9:40 pm
Hi,
I think it could be just a loose connection. Did you try to reconnect the video cable on the system board? Connect an external screen and boot the laptop. Can you see any video on the external monitor; can you make it fail by moving the laptop? If the external monitor has a normal video output and it doesn’t fail when you move the laptop, the video cable itself on the connection on the system board may be bad.
May 28th, 2006 at 9:53 pm
Hey Maverick,
Sorry for a late response, I missed your comment.
1. The motherboard should have a pad on the positive hole for the power socket. I think in your case it has been damaged.
2. You can try to solder wires directly to the system board and relocate the power jack outside the laptop. It doesn’t look very good, but I think that it would be more reliable then the originally designed connection.
May 28th, 2006 at 9:59 pm
Celeste,
It is possible that the video driver is corrupted and should be replaced. Try to boot the laptop in a safe mode; you should press F8 on start up. When you boot the laptop in a safe mode it will load a basic video driver. If your video works fine in the safe mode, then most likely the video driver is your problem. You can find a new driver on the laptop maker website.
May 28th, 2006 at 10:04 pm
Charles,
I wouldn’t suspect the video cable with a failure pattern you described. I think the backlight bulb itself on the LCD screen might be bad. If you have a test LCD screen, try to connect it to the FL inverter board and see if you can get stable backlight. It is not necessary to connect the video cable; the inverter cable would be enough for testing the backlight.

Hi,
I needed the part number for the motherboard on the a45-s211 laptop. If you know of anybody or any place that has it I’d appreciate that too. Price isn’t a factor. TIA,

My laptop is telling me that it needs a new display drive. can i download one, and if so, how exactly? I am technologically impaired cuz I am new to all this, but learning the hard way, by making mistakes. Don’t want to mess up my laptop again. Thanks in advance for help. Do alll laptops have so many problems or is it a Toshiba thing?

Can you tell me what an unsecure website is, and what harm can it do to my laptop? The warning pops up from time to time, and I just stay away from those sites.

Toshiba M30/M35
I was using my laptop normally as I do in last two years and now
I beleive my video card Nvida fx5200 is fried.
There’s vertical lines 2mm apart spread out evenly across the screen & flashing. Windows can’t detect the video card.
The same thing happen to my frnd’s M30.
Is the video card built in the motherboard or a separate module?
June 13th, 2006 at 10:49 pm
Samuel,
Toshiba Satellite M35 has a video chip integrated into the system board. So, if the onboard video is bad, the entire system board must be replaced. Try to connect an external monitor. If you see the same 2 lines on the external monitor, then the system board (onboard video) is bad. If the external monitor shows normal image, then you might have a problem with the screen itself or with the video cable.
Here is Toshiba Satellite M35 disassembly guide .
June 26th, 2006 at 3:48 am
Hi CJ,
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30 Model # PSM30U-7100Q8. The laptop suffers from intermittent display corruption/failure. Often the image will become misaligned and flicker, the image will turn into a checkerboard pattern with half of the pixels on the screen flashing random colors, or the display will just turn off. This happens on both the internal LCD and an external monitor in both windows and the bios.
I took apart the machine and ran it on my bench. It appears that I can cause the graphical corruption by pressing on the area where the wires from the battery board interface with the motherboard.
Do you have any suggestions for this type of problem? I’m looking to avoid a costly motherboard replacement.
Thanks,
Ethan
June 28th, 2006 at 11:08 am
Ethan,
You did for troubleshooting exactly what I would do in your case. I hate to deliver a bad news, but I think there is not a lot you can do to fix this problem. The motherboard has integrated memory and video chip. The motherboard has to be replaced in order to fix the laptop.

Hi CJ,
Thank you for the instruction manual re: removing the keyboard. Unfortunately, I didn’t read the part about never pulling the actual cable (zif connector). I did this, and now have no keyboard function. I just kind of tugged on it and it came out.
If I’ve permantly damaged the cable, I’ll buy a used keyboard, but I’m afraid that I might have damaged the connector. I was very delicate, but obviously something went wrong (the keyboard was starting to lose key function prior to my “cleaning”).
Is it your experience that a replacement keyboard usually restores keyboard function? What damage might I have caused?
Regards,
Sean

Hi Sean,
Try to reseat the keyboard connector first. Open the connector on the system board, stick in the keyboard cable as far as it goes and lock the connector. From my experience, if you just pulled the cable and the connector is not broken, then the keyboard should work fine when you connect it properly (if nothing is wrong with the keyboard itself of course). Inspect the keyboard cable and the keyboard connector on the system board. If you do not see any physical damage, it should be fine.
If the keyboard started to loose key function, in most cases you can fix the problem by replacing the keyboard (if reseating the connector didn’t help). BUT, sometimes it might be a problem with the system board. The only way to find out witch one is causing the problem is to replace the keyboard and test if it starts working properly.

Hi
I have a Toshiba M35X-S111 and my screen went dark I can make out the Icons on the screen but that is just about it. From reading different articles this is repairable. I have built several tower computers and know my way around them fairly well. I have been searching for a source for the backlight bulbs but I have been unable to find a source on line. I have not been able to find the part# for the bulb either. was wondering if you would be able to help me out and point me in the right direction for finding a source for the bulb and the part #
Thanks very much for your Time
Rick
July 9th, 2006 at 2:41 pm
Hi Rick,
Why do you think that the backlight bulb is bad? Most likely it’s just a bad FL inverter board. Check out my previous post about troubleshooting laptop video problem. Here is a Toshiba Satellite M35X display disassembly guide.
I cannot find the bulb part number, Toshiba doesn’t list it. The bulb comes together with LCD screen. So, if the bulb is bad you’ll have to replace the screen unless you can find a specialized LCD repair shop who can replace just the backlight bulb.

Hi
I have an M30x(UK Model) i had a problem with the dc power connector. i re soldered it and it now powers up fine and indicates that it is charging the battery. proiblemis it will not run off the battery at all. the battery appears all ok in the system properties. Any ideas on how i have caused the battery not to work now?

Hi,
I have a Toshiba M35x-S114 that exhibits USB problems. The Toshiba website acknowledges the issue and recommends updating the BIOS to v1.90. I downloaded the update and burned it to a bootable CD. Upon reboot, the software begins to run but soon the PC just shuts down instead of rebooting as stated in the docs that came with the v1.90 software. When I boot the PC, it says the BIOS is now v1.90, but the USB issue remains. Any ideas?

Hi,
Thanks for the awesome helpful information! I am looking for a power supply board for a Satellite 2775xdvd. I have found a number on it, but I’m not sure it’s the part number: B36086901016N A0. The “016N A0″ is on a sticker that overlaps the end of the printed board number like it’s a correction.
Also, I wonder if you would suggest replacing this board with the following symptoms: The computer runs fine for a while, but then shuts off after a while. Then, upon rebootup, it shuts down quickly. I’ve ruled out overheating because the fan works fine and there’s no dust to be found. Also, it sometimes runs for a while, even under extreme heat stress (running Mem86 test for 1.5 hours), I don’t think it’s heat.
After a shutdown, the plugin power light blinks orange with the code 1000 0001 = 81, which says “PCOREV voltage is under 1.08 V, when the computer is powered on” in the service manual. So, following their step, I get to where it says to replace the power board.
I’d be grateful for any help!
Ian

Can you help me out to find the motherboard type of the A15 S1292 part number PSA10U-28RJRV
THanks
July 17th, 2006 at 10:25 pm
Tracy,
What is your issue with the USB ports? Do USB work at all?
If a USB 2 device runs only as a USB 1.1 device, or it connects/disconnects intermittently, then updating the BIOS to v1.90 might fix the problem.
If a USB device is detected by Windows, but not recognized and this device works fine on any other computer, then you might have a problem with the system board.
July 17th, 2006 at 10:38 pm
Hi Ian,
I’m not really sure if this model has a power board, but I found a part number for the battery connect assembly. The part number is P000282920. I Googled for it and found it right away in the first search link for $5. I’m not sure if that’s the board you need but it’s cheap. I believe this board is located somewhere between the system board and the battery, is it what you are looking for?
July 17th, 2006 at 10:42 pm
Paola,
There is only one motherboard for this model. It’s P000387490.

I have a Satellite A75-s2112 prt#PSA70U-0WQ00G that is just out of warrenty. In just the last couple of days, it has a “stuck” spacebar. The spacebar is not phsucally stuck, it only happens after the machine has warmed up. I belive it is a BIOS issue, so I have flashed the BIOS to the latest (1.5) which did not correct the issue. I have also read that ctfmon.exe can produce simular problems so I have taken the steps to remove that as an issue. This is a lean machine in that I have alomost nothing installed on it (Only items needed for work). I have trimmed the installed applications to only those required and still have the same issue. Since this only happens when the machine is “warm” I am conviced it is a hardware related problem. (Hence the assumption it is the BIOS). Have you ever seen this? and can I simply replace the BIOS?
The machine has run faithfully for the 15 months that I have had it, and it still works now (except for the stuck key). I would rather not replace it if can help, and don’t want to spend $500 if I can simply replace whatever part(s) are bad.
Thanks in advance…

Brandon,
You can try to reseat the
videokeyboard (my mistake) cable on the system board. You can do that if you follow steps 6-10 on this disassembly guide. By the way, how do you know that the spacebar is stuck, what problem you experience?July 27th, 2006 at 7:10 am
After it warms up (15-20 min), any WinControl that has edit capability will repeat whitespace. If you are on Google in the search box for example, the search will fill with spaces. If you are typing, spaces are inserted into your text. Also, if you are not focused on the search entry, IE will “page” as if the spacebar were pressed. Any dialog box that pops-up, will select the default button without clicking (again, the default behavior of the spacebar).
These events are sporadic, there is sometimes 3,5,10 seconds between the spaces and other times it is at the typmatic rate until the end of the control is reached.
For a test, I started MSWord and left it sit in an empty document. After a few minutes, I had several pages of whitespace, no other characters were output.
I have also completed virus scans, spybot, windows defender…just to make sure it wasn’t something along those lines. I would have been surprised to see any of those as this machine is almost never on the net and is not used for email.
Out of curiosity, why reseat the video cable? I have not seen anything with the video that would lead me there.(p.s.: I’m not questioning that this may be the problem, only looking see the tie-in to the symptom)…
July 27th, 2006 at 11:10 pm
Brandon,
That was my mistake; I wanted to say the keyboard cable. Too much beer.
I think there could be 3 problems: bad connection between the keyboard and the system board, bad keyboard, or bad keyboard controller on the systemboard.
You can try to remove the keyboard and run the laptop for a while without it. See if you can reproduce the problem. If the laptop works fine, connect the keyboard and test it again.

Hi, I have a question. I have a P35 S605 Toshiba, and this morning, for no apparent reason, I acquired a hair like line, blue-ish, running down the center of my screen. This is a first, and the laptop is a month out of warranty. I am quite upset about that, and I would like to know if it’s even worth fixing. Could it be the LCD going already??
Thanks!

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S163, it crashed and i had to upload everything up again by reformatting the hard drive. Everything runs great…Only problem is my usb buses aren’t working it can’t find the folder for the usb drivers to re- install in my comp. What should i do? Or, where should i go to fix this? I’m out of warranty.
August 7th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
I have been looking, but anable to find an answer to this question.
You see, I have a cracked LCD screen in my Toshba Satellite P30 and I ahve only been able to find LCDs for P25 and P35. Do you know if LCD screens for those mdels will fit my P30?
August 7th, 2006 at 9:22 pm
Lynne,
Unfortunately, it looks like the LCD screen problem. I think that a bad video cable or a bad system board wouldn’t cause a problem like this.
August 7th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Jonathan,
Usually USB ports are detected automatically and you don’t have to install any drivers. Just in case I checked downloads for your model and I didn’t find any USB drivers. But I found that there is a BIOS update (v1.90) that fixes some USB issues on this model. Try to upgrade the BIOS, it might fix the problem.
August 7th, 2006 at 9:43 pm
Ben,
A screen from Satellite P35 will physically fit into Satellite P30, but there are a few different types. The best way would be to look up for a part number on the back of your LCD screen (something like K000017760) and then find the same screen or find a substitute for the screen. If you plan to buy a new screen from a company, they usually can help you to find a replacement screen for your original one.
August 8th, 2006 at 3:33 am
Are errors on PC-Check always correct. I got a Motherboard keyboard controller failed check, but the keyboard works fine.
I do get this annoying beeping from my Toshiba A35 laptop system speakers once in awhile. They occur during Windows and Post! Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I have searched throughout the Internet for an answer.
Great site by the way, the information you provide is priceless.
August 10th, 2006 at 9:28 pm
Scott,
A continuously beeping sound on startup (during POST) usually caused by a stuck key on the keyboard and it might be an intermittent problem.
Probably, I would disconnect the keyboard, boot the laptop without the keyboard attached and tested if I can reproduce the problem. Also, I would try to run the test without the keyboard. I’m not sure if the keyboard controller test would be correct without the keyboard connected to the systemboard.
Anyway, if the laptop works fine without the keyboard, then I would probably replace the keyboard. There is a chance that you have a keyboard controller failure, but I would go with the keyboard first I think.

Thanks for all the information, very helpful and informative.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba M35-359. It fell about 1 foot and hit the floor and at the time I didn’t think anything happened. However, When i tried to use it an hour later the screen was still on(no screensaver) and I noticed the time hadn’t changed. I rebooted and now have a blank screen, the HDD light doesn’t light(except when I pulled it it stayed on constantly) and the cardbus doesn’t power on. Also, with a CD in the CD-Rom it has power as I can hear it running. I tried to hook up both an external monitor and a TV, but still no display. Would like to think that its the HDD, but my spidy sense says something worse. What you think?
Thanks,
Brian

Cj, after extensive research, I have decided to try & replace the inverter board. It’s not the LCD I’m sure. I’ve read tons of issues with the inverter boards on the net, going back at least 2 years, on almost all Toshiba’s. It’s also not the video card, as I have tried another monitor, which displays fine. It’s a good place to start I think. Question I have for you is, would I take it apart the same as you have on the P25? And, is it totally necessary to unplug(or set aside) the lcd at all if you can get to the screw holding the Fl inverter? Thanks!
August 17th, 2006 at 10:45 am
Brian,
Try to reseat the memory module/modules and if doesn’t help reseat the wireless card. If the memory module is not seated properly, you’ll get no video on startup. Not properly seated wireless card might prevent the laptop from booting too.
August 17th, 2006 at 10:59 am
Lynne,
In the post 89 you wrote:
It doesn’t look like the FL inverter problem at all. If FL inverter is bad you get no backlight, but it cannot cause any hair like lines on the screen. At least I’ve never seen it before. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
To access and replace the FL inverter board, it’s not necessary to remove the LCD screen. You just remove the LCD mask, unplug the FL inverter and replace it. The LCD mask removal procedure would be almost the same as for Satellite P25 or any other Toshiba laptop.
August 17th, 2006 at 11:59 am
Cj, I was told by an authorized Toshiba tech, that it was the inverter. They did not take it apart, but they said they had seen it before, so who knows. I will live with it for a few weeks, and if I feel invincible some day, then I will attempt to replace it. Otherwise, I’ll just buy a new laptop whan I can’t deal with this line anymore.
What really makes me mad is, that this is barely a year old, and it was a LOT of money. I don’t intend to buy another Toshiba, ever. I’ll go back to Sony.
August 17th, 2006 at 12:08 pm
Lynne,
Please let me know if it fixes the problem. As I said, I’ve never seen before that fl inverter causes such a problem.
August 17th, 2006 at 2:24 pm
I’ll let you know. May be a month before I get to it though. If, as you mentioned earlier, it’s the LCD, then I would really be LIVID. This laptop has never even been moved out of the house, or off the desk for that matter. I am the only user, it isn’t anywhere near the sun, and does not get abused in any way. I could see it if it got banged around and abused, but to have one user, and never leave the house…..unacceptable to me.
Oh, I will tell you that they said they had seen 4 of them in the last year. Said they thought it was because the inverter has a overheating problem….
I thihk it’s odd that it’s exactly in the middle of the screen……
August 17th, 2006 at 2:44 pm
Lynne,
Here’s one more idea how you can test it.
If you unplug the FL inverter from the screen, you still should be able to see data (image) on the screen without backlight. It would be very very dim. So, if the inverter causes the problem, the line should disappear. If the screen is bad, the line will not go away.
I’m not sure if it’s going to work out because without the backlight it would be very hard to see any image and detect if the vertical line is still there.
Or, you can simply press on the lid close switch and will turn down the fl inverter. Look at the screen very close. Make sure that your laptop is set to do nothing when you close the lid or it’ll go to hibernation or standby mode. Can you see the line? Is it still there?
August 17th, 2006 at 2:59 pm
No, when I press on the lid close button, the screen goes completely black, and there is no line….
August 17th, 2006 at 3:05 pm
Ok, I just shined a flashlight on it, and the line is still there………..now I’m really upset…..
August 17th, 2006 at 3:09 pm
Sorry Lynne,
I didn’t want to upset you. I’m just trying to help. It might be not necessary to spend money on a new FL inverter if it’s not your problem.
August 17th, 2006 at 3:11 pm
I guess I should be looking for a new laptop now…but not a Toshiba!!! I appreciate your help. I’m not going to spend another cent on this one.
August 17th, 2006 at 5:58 pm
Cj, sorry to bug you again, but I just went to move the laptop over to another spot, and I noticed when I sat it down, the line changed. It seemed to get more color in it, then I purposly lightly raised it up and down, letting it hit the counter a bit, and it has an effect on the line. Is that normal? Could it be that there is a loose connection? Maybe the video cable?
Just thought I’d ask….

Here’s a part number for Toshiba Satellite M55 touchpad cable: K000028130. Google it and you’ll find it right away.

Hi There, having trouble with my m35x-s111 dvd-rom/cdrw. The laptop shows the drive in bios and diag but comes up with failure. Tried new drive with same results, it just says driver failed to load and drive error. I want to try a new connector for the motherboard. Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Thanks
September 14th, 2006 at 9:50 pm
Hey Joe,
Can you boot from the DVD drive? Are you getting this error in Windows?
September 15th, 2006 at 11:25 am
Can you please tell me the part number for the fan for the Toshiba satellite pro m30? (spits the hot air out the left side of the notebook). Also, where is the best place to get this part? I was quoted $240 for repair
September 15th, 2006 at 7:09 pm
Hi cj,
I cannot boot from the drive at all, nor wil it appear under safe mode. In BIOS it is NOT listed under the cd/dvd drives section. But under IDE devices it appears. In windows the drive dows not show in the explorer, but it appears under devices with a failure code that states it cannot be loaded due to errors. i have tried checking for virus, new driver, roll back but nothing seems to work. The new drive I got did not work either and shows the same problem. I am wondering if part of the connector may have gone bad and the power pin is good but nothing else will talk properly to the drive. If I go to diag tools for toshiba I get a failure for the cd drive but it doesnt say whats wrong and how to fix. So Im stumped
September 17th, 2006 at 12:39 pm
Aaron,
I’m not familiar with Satellite Pro M30 laptop. Does it look like Satellite M30 laptop on this disassembly guide? If it does, then I think it’s the same laptop, but different name and you can use a fan part number from Satellite M30. The DC fan part number is: P000370160. Google for the part number or search on eBay and you’ll find it.
September 17th, 2006 at 12:48 pm
Joe,
It’s hard to say what’s wrong with the laptop. I assume, if both drives experience the same problem and shows the same error then it’s not the drive problem. There could be something wrong with the controller on the system board. Just in case, try to re-flash/upgrade the BIOS.
September 17th, 2006 at 1:46 pm
Hi again,
yep tried the BIOS update to ver 1.90 the newest available from Toshiba site. Still not the problem. If it is the controler, any ideas what to try to fix? I have another motherboard hopefully coming in the mail soon to rule out that potential as well. Thanks again,Joe
September 17th, 2006 at 8:18 pm
Joe,
If it is the controller problem, you’ll have to replace the motherboard. I guess you still should be able to use the laptop with an external (USB or PCMCIA) DVD drive.

Hi, I have a Toshiba M30 for about 2 years. I shut the system off when it lucked on me while I was in TwinView mode (using the laptop LCD and an External LCD). now all I got is black screen when I powerup. and it wont even go to BIOS. nothing. all I get is 2 blue vertical lines in both monitors. I’m assuming that its a problem with the system board (Nvidia is built-In in this model) But when I tried to hock up a play station 2 to the input of the laptop the laptop’s screen works fine. so I’m not sure if its the system board ot maybe the BIOS is fried. can someone help me please?
October 6th, 2006 at 1:50 pm
Jamal,
If you have the same bad video output on both screen – internal laptop LCD and external monitor, then most likely the video card has a problem. In your laptop the video card is integrated into the system board, so you’ll have to replace the board.

I have a Satellite A45-S150 laptop. The left hinge broke, has to be replaced. Could anyone know where I can get this hinge and what is the number for this item. Thank you very much for your answer.
October 9th, 2006 at 9:46 pm
Matt,
You can find hinges for your laptop if you Google for the part number (comment 125).

i need the part number for the charging jack on a toshiba Satellite P25-S607 (the one on the motherboard)
October 16th, 2006 at 6:06 pm
Brian,
Toshiba doesn’t provide the part number for the power jacks because they are already installed on the system board and authorized repair centers are not supposed to replace them. You can find the power jack for Satellite P25 if you search online or check out this website: http://www.computekinc.us/ The power jack for Satellite P25 laptop on this website is listed as jack type #10. I just purchased a jack for Gateway laptop and got it about 3 days after I placed the order. They have good prices and fast shipping. I ordered my jack over the phone.
If you plan to replace the jack yourself, here’s a disassembly help for Satellite P25 laptop.
October 30th, 2006 at 9:48 am
Hi, I need to replace the keyboard of my Toshiba Satellite Laptop I bought 5 years ago, but am not sure what model I have. The only number resembling a model # is on the bottom, PA3373U-1MPC. Is this the model # or is it only a part number for a specific part. If it is the model number, do you know what the keyboard part number is?
October 30th, 2006 at 9:50 pm
Christopher,
Looks like PA3373-1MPC is a part number for the wireless card and it’s not the laptop model number. If you can give me at least the laptop name (Satellite A65 for example) I would find the keyboard part number for you.
In most cases you should be able to find the keyboard part number on the opposite side of the keyboard but you have to remove it first.
October 30th, 2006 at 11:16 pm
Hi cj,
With refrenece to my comment # 127, could you please provide me with the part number for the Motherboard.
laptop model name: Toshiba Satellite M30
laptop model number: PSM33C-00100E
Thanks

Sorry Jamal,
I cannot find the part number for Canadian units. I work with laptops sold in the USA. Try calling these guys, may be they can help you find a US equivalent. I think you can get the part number from.

I have a recently deceased Toshiba model 2805-S202, part number PS280U-0013NH. It was working fine but shut down and now is flashing the power LED with the following code: slsslsls, which I interpret by other discussions as 52hex. I tried to get what this code indicates has gone bad to no avail and, since it is long out of warrenty, would like to try to fix it myself. Some of your disassembly instructions look similar to mine but I noticed that there appear to be zillions of different Satellite constructions. I’ve already tried changing batteries or no battery.

Hi there,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A85-s107, part number PSA82U-00R004
I need to replace the fan on this machine because it makes a horrible grinding noise when I turn it on, and the computer has also started shutting down on its own probably because of overheating. I have to keep the laptop raised on a book, because when the fan grate is against a hard surface, the computer will shut down on its own. Could you let me know if I can replace it myself, and if so how I go about disassembling the machine?
Thanks!

Jo-Anne,
Here’s a disassembly guide that show hot to access the cooling fan inside a Satellite A85 laptop. It’s up to you to decide if you can dismantle the laptop and replace the fan yourself.
You can find a new cooling fan if you Google by the part number: K000023650

Rich,
I do not understand why you need the laptop model if you have the battery part number. You can find a new battery if you search on Google by the part number. This laptop should be able to handle 512MB (2×256MB). You can buy any notebook PC100 RAM. So why do you need the laptop model?

Hi
I just called Toshiba Satellite 1 year standard warranty and they said they can’t replace my one keycap that has fallen off because it is not covered. I am a little frusturated. Should I purchase a whole new keyboard for my less than one year laptop? If that is the only thing I can do, how can I get the keyboard part number, and how should I go about replacing it?
Model- M55-S3315
Model part # PSM50U-0M901V
Wishing for help

Mersedes,
I think that’s a gray area and the result depends on a person or service center you are talking too. If you would have a cracked laptop base then yes, it would be considered as a physical abuse and it wouldn’t be covered under standard warranty. But with a missing keyboard key it depends. Find a local Toshiba repair center and talk to a technician; I think you’ll get a different response.
Just in case here’s a part number for the keyboard: K000027960 and my instructions for replacing the keyboard (follow steps 1,6,7,8,9)

Hello,
Thank you for your site and taking the time to answer some questions. I am looking at a Toshiba A75-S206 for a friend of mine and it turns on for a few seconds then shuts off, the charge light never comes on when the ac adapter is plugged in so after searching the web I find all the posts regarding these models and the bad power jack, so I ordered one and will replace it when it arrives, I disassebled the unit and cleaned all the link from the heatpipe and fan areas and removed cpu and cleaned and reseated with AS5. Here’s my question, when I have the system put back together and I power it on, it lights up, fans spin up, see the toshiba logo on the display, if i leave it alone it will shut off right after the hit F2 for BIOS setup it will shut off at that time, thats when I read about the bad jack issue and ordered one, but I have found out that if I hit F2 and enter the bios the unit will stay on forever, I can navigate throughout the BIOS and make any changes I want, when I exit after saving changes it reboots and then shuts off, If I exit without saving changes it shuts off immediately. So, if its the power jack wouldnt it shut off while in the BIOS? one mroe thing is when it is in the BIOS the fans shut down, is this normal for this model? Thanks

Kenneth,
I believe Toshiba has issued a warranty extension for this model. If the laptop was purchased in the United States, then your friend might qualify for a free repair. Call to Toshiba and find out if he qualifies before you work on the laptop.
Here’s my previous post that covers this problem with Satellite A75 laptops in more details.

Thanks for the reply, even with the 12 mos warranty extention he is still out of warranty, like 3 mos ago…lol
I’ll just try the new jack once it arrives.

Hi –
I too have had problems with my m35x-s349 and the DC jack. I had someone replace the jack, but he warned it may be a temp fix because the trace came off with the old jack. It did work for a while – now, not so much. I really have to have the cord puched a certain way for it to make contact and charge the battery. Not wanting to spend for a new laptop right now – I decided I need to try and replace the motherboard. I’d rather not take it apart to find the # since I AM able to use it off and on. Could you help me in finding the part number for my Toshiba please?
M35x-S349 PSA72U-00W00X. From the sounds of things I probably shouldn’t waste my time on this, but I think it’s a cheaper way to go right now. (I can do the install myself – just didn’t trust myself to solder!)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
I have Toshiba Satellite 2595XDVD and love it very much even though it is outdated. It was my graduation gift many years ago bought by my mom and was also my first computer. A while ago, the HDD crashed. Laptop Freak taught me how to change my HDD, but I need a larger HDD. Some websites claim that this laptop can use up to 120G HDD, but some websites claim that it can use up to only 8G HDD. What is the largest HDD capacity Toshiba Satellite 2595XDVD can be used?
Thank you,
Lee

James,
Sorry for a late response, I was kinda busy. I checked the part listing for Toshiba Satellite L25-S1196 notebook and found that there is a wireless card listed for this model. It’s Atheros 802.11b/g mini PCI card. You can find it by the part number: A000004010
December 18th, 2006 at 7:50 pm
Dave,
If you want to find an exact part number, you’ll have to remove the LCD screen and find a sticker on the opposite side. I searched for LCD screens listed for a Satellite A25-S207 notebook (model number PSA20U-02HKLVB) and found five different screens.
Samsung screen, P000367840
LG.Philips screen, P000367850
Sharp screens, P000379090 and P000383670
The above mentioned screens should be interchangeable.
There is one more screen, LG Philips P000387550, but this one has a note “requires specific parts”. I would be careful with this one.
Before you purchase a new screen make sure contact the seller and confirm that you are buying a correct one. You don’t want to buy a wrong screen.
December 18th, 2006 at 7:55 pm
Axmed,
I googled by the part number you mentioned in the comment (PK070018200) and found it right away. Search on Google.
December 18th, 2006 at 8:05 pm
Beth,
Here’s a motherboard part number for your laptop: K000019630, you’ll find it if you search on Google.
Before you purchase a new motherboard and replace it, you should know this. Recently Toshiba issued a 12 months warranty extension for some Satellite M30X, M35X, A70 and A75 notebooks sold in the USA. According to the model number you mentioned in your comment in was sold in the USA. Toshiba will fix these units at no charge even though laptops ran out of warranty. You might qualify for this repair. I would recommend calling Toshiba for more details of just bring the laptop to a local Toshiba service center and talk to them. Don’t spend money if you can fix it for free. Let me know how it goes.

Lee,
I doubt that the BIOS will recognize HDD larger then 8GB. Originally this laptop was supplied with 6.4GB hard drive.

Toshiba Satellite A65-S1062, model PSA60U-01W015 has only one system board listed, the part number is V000040870. This system board has 256MB onboard memory. I think the cheapest one you can find here, I just searched by the part number and fond one for $189.

My daughter has a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S163, PSA72U-2KS00U, appears to have a heat problem, will shutdown after a few hours, it does not feel like much air is moving out of the fan vent, I read in another post that the M30’s use a thermal module, same for the M35X? Do you have a PN?
Thanks in advance

Hi, This site is freaking great. I reapaird my blank screen with one of the tutorials here. Two Thumbs up to you guys. You guys should start a Donation campaing so people can donate some cash for your time via paypal.
Anyway….
Here is my dilema. I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S149. I installed windows XP pro. I downloaded all the drivers it was asking for, except the PCI MODEM driver???
I don’t know if that is related to my wireless card because i can’t get online wirelessly. And my light for the wireless won’t even come on.
HELP!!!! The drivers for Atheros or intel from Toshibas website do not help.

January 17th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
Robert Wood,
First of all, I want you to know that your Toshiba Satellite M35X laptop might qualify for a free repair (if the laptop is purchased in USA). Check out comments 7 and 8 in this post.
Probably you just have a clogged heat sink and there is nothing wrong with the cooling fan. Blow off the heat sink and see if the problem is gone. If the cooling fan doesn’t spin then you’ll have to replace the thermal module because the fan comes as a part of the thermal module. You’ll find it by the following part number: K000019100
You’ll find disassembly instructions here.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Scott,
Here’s a part number for a Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 battery cover assembly: P000451120
Not sure if you’ll be able to find it, but at least you know the part number now.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Gilbert,
I believe when you are missing the wireless card driver, Windows sees unknown network interface, but not PCI modem. May be you didn’t install device driver for the software modem?
Can you see the wireless card in the device manager? Did you turn on the wireless switch on the side of the laptop? (stupid questions, but some people have no idea about this switch). Make sure the wireless card is seated properly.
I have PayPal button on the top of each disassembly guide, you can test if it works by the way.

When I called Toshiba, they did not mention an extension of my warranty. However, I have a satellite A75-2112, and it does qualify for $50 towards getting the static issue dealt with, which they also did not mention. However, what can I do about a sound drive that keeps having to be reinstalled? They said I might have a faulty motherboard because the Realcrap sound driver keeps going faulty, the volume controls grey out, and a complete delete of realcrap from laptop, trashing all remnants of realcrap, and then a fresh reinstall does not always fix the issue. I’ve reinstalled it 6 times today, and still can’t get it to install properly and give me sound.
Thus, is their a different sound driver I can use besides Realtek? Or, do I have to replace the motherboard? I do understand that motherboards goes with specific sound drivers for best results.
If the motherboard needs to be replaced, can I replace it with superior Sony motherboards? I am tired of having only one sound driver that works on my motherboard. (I can’t find the website that told me the info about sound drivers and motherboards.)
Thanks!

I have a toshiba m35 s320 laptop. I need to replace the motherboard, can you tell me what is the part number so I can look up the cost before I deceide.
January 24th, 2007 at 11:20 pm
Kytriya,
I believe that under this warranty extension Toshiba will fix any issue with your laptop, if it’s Satellite M30X, M35X, A70 or A75 purchased in the United States. If the motherboard has to be replaced they will replace it. Take the laptop to a local authorized repair center and talk to them.
January 24th, 2007 at 11:50 pm
Lynn,
First of all search for the part number in the memory slot or under the keyboard, it will be a P-number, something like this: P000386870. If you cannot find this number, read the following.
Satellite M35 notebook has two different bases and each base requires a specific motherboard. Unfortunately I cannot give you a correct part number for the motherboard until you give me an A-number from the motherboard. This A-number looks like this: A5A000897010, it’s just an example and your number can be different.
For some stupid reason this number cannot be easily accessed, it’s located on the motherboard under the top cover. You cannot see it even if you remove the keyboard. It’s necessary to remove the top cover. Find this number and I’ll find the motherboard part number for you.
Try this part numbers just to get an idea how much they are: P000386870, P000400260, P000431260. These are boards with 64MB video memory.

FYI to all Toshiba M35x-s349 owners with a DC jack problem.
I purchased my M35x in December 2004. I had bad DC jack problems and through this site I became aware of the extension of the warranty – so I found the authorized Toshiba Service Center in my area and took the laptop to them last Monday. I had the laptop back on Wednesday fixed for free – covered by Toshiba and the extension/clause. Maybe I got lucky, but I would highly suggest that anyone that has this problem attempt to resolve it this way first – before shelling out the dough and your time to do it yourself! Just make it clear to the service center that your intentions are only to have it serviced with them if it’s covered by Toshiba!

What is the part number for my Toshiba Satellite L25 PSL2XU-00R00D blacklight and inverter?
Thanks
February 5th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Guess what! They fixed the fans not cooling laptop problem a year ago. And the FANS DO NOT WORK AGAIN! Okay, so I get free repair for a year. What am I to do when they keep repairing it with subpar junk?! Sure, they will fix it for free, via court order. But, when they fix it such that it is only going to break right away, whats the point? I mean, I still will be in the same boat a year from now, with a non-working laptop. Sue them every year until they get it right? Or maybe, get a better lawsuit going where by people WIN their full money back!
I can have the warranty extended for 10 years to get a life use out of the laptop. As it is, they have had my laptop more than I have. This is not acceptable.

Like many others, I have a Satellite A85-1072 that has fan problems and will overheat and freeze up..It is not the fan or heatsink – thanks to your instructions I was able to open and clean it.The fan does work at startup and occasionally intermittently.
What are the other common causes/fixes to this?
Is there a BIOS or registry problem here or is it strictly hardware related?

Hiya
I have s Toshiba P30-110 and need a new motherboard, or at least the DC socket for the mains if it can be replaced seperatly.
numbers on bottom of laptop are : PSP30E-0130088K/SP30-110 & Serial No Y4373871K
February 20th, 2007 at 12:14 am
Dave,
If the power jack is the only problem on the motherboard, you don’t have to replace the entire board. You’ll have to remove the board from the laptop and resolder the power jack. You can find a new jack here, just search by “P30 power jack”.
February 20th, 2007 at 8:49 am
There is not a part listed for the Toshiba P30-110 (from Toshiba anyway). I’ve found a cost of a new motherboard for £325.

I have a Toshiba M35-S456 which I have disassembled to replace the Motherboard. The only number I can find on the Motherboard is on a sticker with a barcode. The number is C046Q35W which cannot be found when googled and looks nothing like the part numbers you show above. There is a Part # PSM33U-001001and a serial number on the bottom # 64088392H. I cannot find anything else though I am still looking. Could you please help me find the replacement number for the motherboard?
Thanks

Blackthorn,
Here are part numbers for your Satellite M35-S456 notebook.
You can use this one P000406480 or P000422840. The second one is backward compatible with the first one, so you can use either one.
February 23rd, 2007 at 6:16 pm
cj2600,
I ended up finding those same numbers at sparepartswarehouseDOTcom and they are not cheap! I appreciate you verifying that for me. Ebay has nothing at the moment and I sure hate to pay that much for a motherboard. I am going to verify it with them whether or not they are new or refurbished boards.
I sure wish it came with the video card being seperate from the main board!
Thanks for you help!

Jason,
Three beeps might indicate a problem with memory. Try reseating the memory module, move from one slot to another. Test the laptop with a known good memory module.

I have a Toshiba M35X-S149 unit that has a broken volume pot switch on the sound card. Rather than toy around with trying to fix the switch, I’m thinking it’d be more efficient to just order a new sound card. For some reason, there wasn’t a part number sticker on the card when I’d checked for the part number. Can you help me locate the part #?
Yes, this machine was bought in the U.S (North Carolina).

I have a Toshiba A85-1072. When I start-up there is a BIOS problem with the Realtek NIC. I reviewed the disassembly guide and didn’t see exactly where this is located.
Can you please help?
Thanks.
March 3rd, 2007 at 11:45 am
gary ratzker,
I’m not sure what is causing the problem in your case. It could be a bad network port, bad cable that connects the network port with the motherboard or even something wrong with the motherboard. Take a look inside the network port on the back of the laptop, make sure pins inside not touching each other. Try reflashing/upgrading the BIOS. Set BIOS to defaults.
Take a look at the step 15 in the disassembly guide. The network port is located on a separate board (top right corner) and connects to the motherboard via a black cable.

Hi,
I have a toshiba L25-S1192. There seems to be a problem with the power port because the laptop does not charge unless i position the cord right. I had the same problem with my old toshiba laptop, and i replaced the power cord but it did not fix the problem. Thus i think its the port that is defective, and i wanted to know if there is anything that can be done.

Tim Jennings,
Speakers in a Toshiba Satellite M55 notebook are located inside the display assembly. You’ll have to remove the screen bezel in order to replace them.
This guide shows how to open up the display assembly in a Satellite M55 notebook.
March 19th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
Meg,
It’s possible that you have a problem with the power cord on the AC adapter. Find a voltmeter and check the voltage on the adapter tip. If the power cuts off when you move the power cord, the cord might be damaged inside (replace the AC adapter in this case). If the power cord is not damaged, then most likely there is something wrong with the power jack.

Harl,
Try this one: P000388800 – it’s Atheros 802,11b/g.
BTW, in a Satellite A45 laptop the wireless card is located under the keyboard, as it shown on the step 13 in the disassembly guide.

Hi All,
I have a Satellite Pro M10 and its difficult to get hold of a replacement motherboard.
I know that the M15 will fit in its place which also not many around.
Does anyone know what other model motherboard will fit?
Many thanks.

Jay,
Unfortunately you can use only Satellite Pro M10 and Pro M15 motherboard.

Great article…I have a 5105 laptop that now has a blank screen and I believe the problem may be a fluorescent light? My belief is based on internet research which indicated that if you could see a very faint image on your LCD, that it the seemingly blank screen is likely caused by a failed bulb? However, I didn’t notice any bulb in your disassembly instructions? Any insight/help you might provide would be much appreciated. I’m likely to take it apart to try to fix it; and, if that fails, I’ll likely just remove and use the HD as an external for a new, yet to be purchased, laptop…thnx in advance….Rob

Lynn,
If you have a faulty IDE controller, you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard.

I’m looking for the screen latch, a one piece plastic
bar with two hooks that latches the laptop screen
down onto the base when the lid is closed.
It slides back and forth inside the top edge of the
screen frame.
The machine is a Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722.
I don’t see a part number on the broken latch
bar.
Thanks!
April 10th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
HSparks,
Here’s some help for you with a Toshiba Satellite P105 notebook. The screen latch might be a part of the LCD bezel (part number A000005820). It also might be a part of the LCD latch set (part number A000005990). I think you are looking for the second one. I’m not sure with one you should buy. Search on the Internet by the part number, find a seller and contact him for more details. At least you know witch direction to go.

Thanks for the part number!
I was able to locate the part right away.

I have a toshiba satelitte P25-S487. It dropped on the floor about 2 ft and the LCD screen has to be manipulated back and forth to get it to work now. It has gotten worse, now the only way to get it to work is by twisting the screen and holding it. When I plug it into and external monitor it displays the windows XP logo and then goes blank when it finally starts up. It will not work at all on the external monitor. Any ideas on the problem. Thanks

So as to avoid having to tear down to the board, could you please tell me what the part number is on the motherboard of a Toshiba Tecra S1 (PA3272U-1MPC)? Not sure yet if it needs to be replaced, still have to run a couple of diagnostics, but would like to have this info just in case. Thanks a bunch! Sarah

mY TOSHIBA A85-S107 HAS A BLACK SCREEN. At startup I get 3beeps a pause 3beeps a pause and 1 beep. No screen and no hard drive actrivity from the front indicator. Could this be a hard drive problem?
April 22nd, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Keith Mattinson,
It might be just a loose connection somewhere inside the laptop, maybe the video cable connector popped up from the socket and has to be reseated. When I’m fixing a dropped laptop, first of all I take it apart and check every single connection. In many cases reseating connections will cure the problem.
It requires taking the whole laptop apart and if you have no experience with that, I would recommend taking it to a professional repair company.

I need the part number for the motherboard of a Toshiba L25-S1192 model #PSL2XU-00Q00P.
Thank you!!
April 22nd, 2007 at 4:06 pm
Sarah,
PA3272U-1MPC is not a laptop part number. The laptop part number is located on the same sticker with the serial number.
Anyways, I believe all Tecra S1 use the same boards and here they are:
V000020020 – the original board
V000020670 – revision 1.2 (backward compatible)
V000021100 – revision 1.5 (backward compatible)
You can use either of these boards but I would go with revision 1.5, probably Toshiba made some modifications to the previous two boards.

Jamie York,
There are two motherboards for this laptop.
A000004270 and A000004570. There are no notes if these board are interchangeable but I think they are. If you have an ATI sticker on the top cover, I would go with the second one.

I am considering buying a used motherboard for my Toshiba L25-S1192. But in the description, it says the video did not work when hooked up for testing. Is this something I can fix by removing the part from my original motherboard and putting it on the “new” used motherboard? The reason I am looking for another motherboard is that my battery will not charge and I broke the lcd close switch. Am I doing the right thing? Help!
Thanks,
jamie york
April 24th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Ian Basore,
K000005410 is the part number and you can find a new drive if you search on the Internet by this part number.
Here are some other drives you can use with a Toshiba Satellite 1135 notebook:
K000001180, K000005470, K000004190, K000005520. All these drives are interchangeable and they all are DVD/CD-RW. When you buy a new drive, make sure it comes with the front panel (face plate) because the each drive has a specific front panel.
April 24th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Keith Richardson,
Check the memory module, I think it’s a memory related beep error. With Toshiba Satellite A85 laptops accessing memory module is a pain because by default it’s located under the top cover ans it’s not enough just remove the keyboard, you have to remove the whole top cover in order to access the RAM module. Here’s my disassembly guide witch shows how to get to the RAM. It’s not easy and if you feel uncomfortable fixing laptops, use a professional repair service.
If you have two memory modules installed – one under the top cover and another in the slot that you can access from the bottom, try removing the module accessible from the bottom and test the laptop again.
April 24th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Jamie,
Do NOT buy this motherboard because you cannot fix it yourself. The video circuit is integrated into the motherboard. Find another board, they are not very expensive.
Did you try upgrading/reflashing the BIOS? It might help.
May 6th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Hi!
Yesterday my toshiba laptop suddenly dead. The screensaver frozen and screen start displaying garbage . I power off it, and when i power on again it don’t boot, it seems search for hdd, and if i took away memory it beeps. I wonder me if this can be a LCD problem or mainboard problem, if the lcd is borken the laptop must power on? I’m searching for a new mainboard, but are expensive.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!.
May 7th, 2007 at 5:45 am
krasny,
What kind of Toshiba laptop you have?
Yes, even if the LCD screen is bad the laptop still should power on and work fine with an external screen. I think it’s not an LCD screen problem.
Try replacing RAM. Find a known good memory module and see if it fixes the problem.
May 7th, 2007 at 6:33 am
sorry, i forgot mention that this is a Toshiba M30 Laptop, very similar to Toshiba M35x.
I have two ram modules and none works, i’ll try with other, but i don´t think that this can be the problem.
I saw that on ebay a lot of people sells mainboard and all with the same problem, don’t show the bios, this can be a know problem for this laptop? is there any chance that the problem is on the processor?
A lot of thanks again!
May 7th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
krasny,
It also could indicate a problem with the video RAM. Satellite M30 is not really similar to Satellite M35X (Satellite M30X is similar). Satellite M30 motherboard has a dedicated video memory (onboard) and when this memory goes bad you can get garbaged display. Unfortunately in this case you’ll have to replace the motherboard.
Yes, it’s possible but from my experience motherboard failures are much more common the CPU failures. If I have to guess I would chose the motherboard. The only way to find out witch pard is failing is replacing either the motherboard or CPU.

Looking for DC jack harness assembly. I have a toshiba satellite m55 s325 with many similar problems of a bad DC jack (drawing battery power when plugged into AC, Not charging battery, LED light flickerings, Now not starting at all, etc.). This model has a DC jack with harness, so the jack is not soldered directly onto the mainboard (all soldering to board looks good and is receiving proper voltage at board connection). The center PIN of the DC jack moves slightly and am thinking that even though power is getting to the mainboard, it may not be enough (amps?) to start the computer (fan starts for 2 seconds then dies) or charge the battery because of the loose ‘center-pin’. Have tried Spareparts Warehouse and Toshiba, there doesn’t seem to be a separate part # for the DC jack harness assembly. Is anyone aware of a part No. or where to get a new one??
Thanks,……Kirk
May 30th, 2007 at 8:19 am
Kirk,
Even though this laptop has a DC jack with harness, I believe the other end of the harness is permanently soldered on the motherboard. The DC jack harness comes with the motherboard and I don’t think you’ll be able to find the part number just for the harness itself.
May 30th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
cj, you are correct, the other end of the harness is soldered to the mother board. There are two black and two red wires from the ‘jack’ to a soldering ’strip’ connected at the opposite end of the assy. and this ’strip’ is soldered to the mother board.
I was contemplating just cutting the red and black wires between the ‘jack’ and the ’strip’ and then joining a NEW jack/harness (wires) assy. to those that are still connected to the mother board, thereby not disturbing the existing soldered connection…..If I cannot find a compatible jack, I may just get both a male & female DC connectors and replace the existing DC jack AND the ‘plug’ at the end of the AC power supply and ‘jury-rig’ it similar to what I’ve seen on this website…Waadaya think??
It would be helpfull to know any opinions as to whether you or anyone thinks the ‘loose center-pin’ (as described previously) of the existing DC jack could/would be causing the DC jack symptoms that are described extensively on this website???
Thanks,……Kirk
May 30th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Kirk,
If you remove the top cover then you can test the DC jack with a voltmeter. Plug the AC adapter and test voltage coming to the motherboard, you can easily access “+” and “-” pads on the motherboard when the top cover is removed. Wiggle the power plug inside the DC jack and see if the power cuts off when you move the plug. If it’s stable, probably there is nothing wrong with the DC jack and you have some kind of problem with the motherboard. Be careful with the motherboard when you test voltage.
Make sure to test the AC adapter itself. Check if the voltage on the plug is stable and not cutting off when you move the power cord.
I think it’s possible to use the power jack from another Toshiba laptop but right now I cannot tell you from witch model. I have to take a look inside the Satellite M55 and see the jack.
May 31st, 2007 at 7:43 am
cj,
I have the entire unit apart and removed all RAM, HDD, Modem, Wireless card, etc. Removed the motherboard and found no ‘obvious’ signs of a problem. The ’stripped’ (No RAM, hard drive, etc.) motherboard is back in the case bottom with the dc jack hanging out the side for access. At the motherboard I reconnected the ‘ribbon’ wire from the top cover ’switch-board’ to enable a ‘power-up’. The AC power supply seems to check out OK and is providing proper DC voltage (Not sure about amp’s. though) to the motherboard.
When the unit is plugged into AC the Blue power led stays on (most of the time) and the Amber battery led will (usually, though not always) also come on and stay ‘constant’ (normal is for amber led to flash when charging batt. and stay ‘constant’ when batt. is fully charged).
Sometimes (though, not always) when I move the dc jack the amber led will go off,..but the blue ‘power’ led stays ‘on’. Then when I unplug & replug the AC adapter to dc jack the amber led will come ‘on’ again.
On AC power (nothing on dc, I’m sure batt.’s near dead) when I push the power button ‘on’ the fan will start up for about 2 seconds and then go off, immediately pushing the power button again will not start the fan again, however, if I let it sit for awhile (hour or so) then unplug & replug the AC adapter it ‘may’ (not always) start the fan again for about 2 seconds.
I welcome your thoughts and comments!?
Thanks,…..Kirk

Hi there CJ! You seem like a very helpful person and i congratulate you on your contribution towards people’s queries.
Just a quick and silly question. I’m about to take apart my Toshiba, but I’m worried about static discharge. What is an easy way to avoid it without buying special bracelets etc. ?
Thanks for your help!
June 3rd, 2007 at 10:57 pm
Kevin,
Avoid touching components on the motherboard, handle the motherboard by the edges. If you have a desktop computer (or any other grounded appliance), you can touch the metal case and it should discharge your body.

Hi everyone,
Could you guys please tell me what the part number is on the motherboard of a Toshiba Tecra S1 (PA3272U-1MPC)? Thank you so much…~ Veronica
June 7th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Jacob,
Toshiba doesn’t provide part number for the CCFL, sorry cannot help. Try contacting MoniServ, maybe they can find a replacement for you. It is not easy to replace the backlight lamp because it’s located inside the LCD screen.
June 7th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Veronica,
There are three different motherboard for a Tecra S1 laptop, they are interchangeable.
Here are part numbers: V000020020, V000020670, V000021100. The last one is the latest revision, I would use the last one. I searched here and found one for $199 (search by the part number). Other placed sell it for over $400.
BTW, PA3272U-1MPC is not your laptop part number. The laptop part number located on the same sticker as the serial number.

I am still having trouble with my Satellite A45-s150. The CD/DVD Combo drive quit working (makes noise, won’t read CD’s or DVD’s) and I need to be able to boot from a CD. I have purchased and tried to replace the device three times from two different suppliers before I took it to the authorized repair center, and they had the same problem. The Model is A45-s150, PSA4OU-OFOQ4V. tHE PART i TOOK OUT IS A CD-RW/DVD-ROM MODEL NUMBER SD-R2412. The parts I tried to replace were identical except for the version and ROM numbers, but Toshiba tech said that wasn’t an issue. I’ve spent over $300 on parts so far, and no joy. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike B.
June 11th, 2007 at 6:57 am
Duh! I forgot to mention that the new drives (and the empty slot) all give and “IDE error” as the first message on bootup, but the old drive seems to pass the boot inspection. The old drive simply won’t read (and I haven’t tried to write lately).
June 12th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Mike Burke,
I think it’s possible that your new drive is configured differently the the original DVD drive.
Here are part numbers for all drives listed for a Satellite A45-S150 notebook:
P000379290 Teac DW-224EA, G8CC0001D810
P000391970 Hitachi G8CC0001K810
P000383900 Panasonic UJDA-750TB1-A, G8CC0001C810
P000379280 Toshiba SD-R2412-OAA, SDR2412OAA
Make sure you are using a correct one. If the new drive is configured differently, you can get an IDE error on startup.

I have ordered a replacement disk (MK4008GAH) for a Toshibs Portege R100 but it has a zif connector and the connector in the laptop is a pin connector (for a MK4004GAH). Is there any way I can obtain a connector that works with my new zif disk

Item # 256 (see below) indicates that there are 3 motherboards for the Tecra S1 laptop, all of which are interchangeable. Other sites, like Spareparts, list compatibility by part number and the 3 motherboard versions do not appear to be interchangeable (my machine part # is PT831U-14E657). Which interpretation of these “facts” is best? What is the difference in the last version of the Tecra S1 motherboard? Where can I find instructions for replacing the motherboard by myself?
thanks,

Hey,
Recently had a problem with my toshiba p35 s605, the dvd drive does not read anything. I can hear it spinning but no response. Doesn’t show up in my computer and when i went to the device manager it says “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.”
did trouble shoot, all they did was make me uninstall and reinstall and check for updates but didnt work. So im guessing that may need to be replaced. Also wanting to upgrade the ram up to 2x 1gb card… can u tell me what model numbers to look for for that.
LAPTOP: P35-S605

Patrick Galvin,
I just checked parts listed for a Tecra S1 notebook (PT831U-14E657) and I still can see all three motherboards (V000020020, V000020670, V000021100) in the list.
V000021100 is the latest revision. I don’t know what exactly has been changed with this revision, but I would go with the latest one.
You’ll find instructions for replacing the motherboard here: http://www.irisvista.com

G,
First of all, try booting the laptop from the recovery disc. Insert this disk into the drive, reboot the laptop and press F12 as soon as Toshiba logo appears on the screen. Now choose the DVD/CD drive from the boot menu and press enter. If the laptop can boot from the recovery disc but cannot read it in Windows, it’s possible you have a software related issue. In this case try reinstalling the operating system. If the laptop cannot boot from the recovery disc, probably you have a bad DVD drive and it has to be replaced.
Here are part numbers for the DVD drive (double layer burner) you can use with your laptop: K000025200, K000020480, K000029610, K000029620, K000029630, K000018830. They all should work fine with a Satellite P35 notebook.
Make sure the drive comes with the front panel (face plate).
For the memory upgrade you should use PC2700 DDR memory modules.

Do you know the largest sdram chip i can put in my toshiba 2775xDVD? I have seen 128 SODIMMs and 256 SODIMMS pc100 listed…which is it?
Thansk
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:55 pm
Jon,
After a quick search on the Internet I found that a Toshiba Satellite 2775XDVD laptop comes with 64MB non-removable memory, it has 1 memory expansion slot and you can upgrade your laptop to up to a maximum of 192MB memory. It means you can install a 128MB PC100 SCRAM module into the memory expansion slot.

Kingston’s: kvr333×64c25/1G is not going to work because I believe it’s a desktop memory and you need a new memory for your notebook.
You can find a new 1GB memory stick at Crucial.com.

You can use screens with the following part numbers: V000053960, V000054030, V000055010 and V000080340. All these screens will work with the same video cable, so you shouldn’t have any problems.

Glenn Fischer,
Also make sure you have wireless card antennas installed, you should see them in the Wi-Fi slot area. The white cable goes to the main connector on the card and the black cable to the auxilary connector.
It depends. If you can find a correct device driver witch works with your laptop then you can use another brand.
I fond only two card listed for a Toshniba Satellite A10-S169, both cards are 801.11b (11Mbps). The part numbers are: Agere card – PA3212U-4MPC, Atheros card – PA3273U-2MPC.
On the other hand, Toshiba Satellite A10-S127/S128 has 5 different card listed:
801.11b: Agere card – P000339520
801.11a/b: Atheros card – P000366790
801.11b/g: Atheros cards – P000384920 and P000388800
802.11a/b/g: Atheros card – P000385700
I’m almost positive that you can use wireless cards listed for Satellite A10-S127/S128. Basically, it’s the same model as a Satellite A10-S169 but a little bit different configuration.

De’Wanna Morris,
I’ve posted disassembly instructions for a Toshiba Satellite A60 and A65 notebooks at http://www.irisvista.com
August 25th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
Miguel,
You can find a new CMOS battery for a Qosmio G35-AV600 by the following part number: P000444350.
This battery plugs into the motherboard and there is no easy access to the battery. You’ll have to take the whole thing apart and remove the top cover.
I haven’t created instructions for this model yet.
August 25th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Mike,
There are different covers for different M35X laptops. They all should work fine, but you might have (or miss) some extra holes or openings. If you provide the model number for your M35X-S114, I might help you to find a correct part number for your base assembly.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A45-S1202 notebook computer and the model / part number is PSA40U-OOOHNV.
I need to replace the hinges and there are two different part numbers for each side – but I can’t find the distinguishing “C” or “S” on the bottom of my computer. Which part(s) will work with this computer?
the part numbers are P000392250 (left) and P000392260 (right) for computers with a “C”. the part number are P000394150 (left) and P000394160 (right) for computers with a “S”.
Please e-mail me your response.

I have a Toshiba A75 S229 Laptop. I haven’t experienced many problems with the computer shutting down during operations; however, in September 2006 it developed a short in the DC power jack in the rear of the Laptop. For the past several months I have been placing the laptop upright with the weight of the laptop pushing down on the charging cord in order to get a sufficient enough of a connection to charge the laptop. It wasn’t until about a few months ago I decided to try to repair it myself. I searched the internet and found several handy sites with directions on dismantling and resoldering the DC power jack, but for some reason I couldn’t get repair to work. Afterwards, I couldn’t get the computer to charge even by pressing the cord in with my hands. Immediately after my attempt to fix the laptop myself I stumbled across the class settlement where Toshiba has extended the warranty until NOV 2007. I called the warranty service number and explained my problem and they agreed to repair the laptop. They referred me to a local service provider and gave me a case number. I took them my laptop to be repaired; however, the serial number and model number has rubbed off of the bottom of the computer. They attempted to turn the computer on, but even when using a charged battery it will only power up for a second and the fans will kick on and then it turns off again. The service guy told me that he is not able to help me unless I am able to provide him with a serial number and model number ( the one similar PSA70U-0WK00G). I was able to go to Circuit City where I purchased the laptop and get the serial number, but they didn’t have the model number on file. Is there another way I might possibly be able to obtain the model number so that I can have the warranty repair done on my defective Toshiba? Also, did I void my warrantly extension by attempting to fix the computer myself?
I appreciate your help and everyone’s informative comments. It really helps knowing you’re not alone.
Thanks,
Jason
September 6th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
chris,
Most likely there is a problem with the screen inverter (power supply for the screen ) and you’ll have to replace it. If the laptop is still under warranty take it to the authorized repair center.
September 6th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Dave Nisly,
I need to replace the hinges and there are two different part numbers for each side – but I can’t find the distinguishing “C” or “S” on the bottom of my computer.Did you look in the battery compartment (on the case under the battery)? There has to be letter “S” or “C” stamped somewhere on the bottom of the laptop.
September 6th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Jason,
If the motherboard is dead and you cannot see anything on the sticker, probably you are screwed.
Can you see anything on the sticker at all? Why did you mentioned PSA70U-0WK00G? The first part is correct for sure. Can you see at least first three letters of the second part, I’m talking about 0WK? Are you sure it’s 0WK?

Adding a mini pci card to Toshiba A45-S121. Adding ant and understand covering 11 and 13 contacts will “power on”.
Book indicates this conversion can be made. No help from

the power switch and LED to replace blank on right side?
Is the 11-13 fix usable? Have your DA guide. thank you

Thank you Harlan
September 29th, 2007 at 10:47 am
Deeps,
Didn’t you forget to turn on the wireless switch on the side of the laptop?
September 29th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Harlan,
I just checked parts listed for Toshiba A45-S121 (Part number PSA40U-06LLZV). For some reason the mini PCI wireless card is not listed in main parts. Usually, it indicates that this card cannot be installed.
Are you sure that your laptop can be upgraded with internal wireless card? Do you have mini PCI slot (wireless card slot) installed on the motherboard? Do you have wireless card antennas installed – two cables white and black coming from the display assembly?
By the way, in the laptop specification they list internal wireless card in the accessories list. The part number is PA3298U-2MPC, it’s Atheros 802.11 a/g card.
It’s possible that they list this card only for A45 laptops with wireless capability and your laptop is not one of them.
Toshiba doesn’t provide part numbers for the wireless switch and LED on the right side.

Hello,
Thanks for creating such a wonderful website for Toshiba Laptop users. I really appreciate your effort. I am having Toshiba M45-S355 Model No PSM40U-073001 with me for past 3 years. It hasnt given me a single problem since than. Unfortunately today I broke one of the LCD display hinge which connects LCD to rest of the laptop (keypad and other stuff). From http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com I found out a part number which is V000050200 and I am really not sure that this is the one which I am looking for as no display pic is there. Please help me out as i dont want to spend huge sum of money on a new laptop.
Thanks Once again
October 13th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Hemant,
I think this is correct.
V000050200 is listed as a set of hinges with bracket. Alternatively, you can use V000055380. This part number is backward compatible to V000050200.
I found V000055380 on eBay and they have the image of these hinges. Check the image and see if that’s what you are looking for.
October 13th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Michael Sasenick,
I can help you to find the part number for a new LCD screen if you provide the model number for your laptop, as Hemant did in the comment 306. There is more then one screen for this model.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 part number PSA70U-003002B. I need to replace the DC input jack on the system board. The part that the power cord plugs into. I do not want to replace the entire system board. It is on the upper right hand corner of the system board when the laptop is sitting right side up. It looks like a small silver box. I don’t want to open the computer back up until I have the part to replace it. Does anyone know the part number to this piece or where I can get another one?
October 16th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Brian,
Toshiba doesn’t provide part number for the power jack because it comes with the motherboard. But if you search for “A75 power jack” here you can find one for about $10.
October 17th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Do you know how hard it is to get to the CPU of a Qosmio G35? I have a G35 AV650 and a spare T7200 I’d like to put in vs the stock T2500, thanks!
October 18th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Steve,
You’ll have to take the whole thing apart and remove the motherboard. The CPU socket is located on the bottom side of the motherboard.
You’ll find some help at http://www.irisvista.com I’ve posted disassembly instructions for a Qosmio G25 notebook. This is a different model but you can get the idea how to get inside the computer.
October 21st, 2007 at 11:22 pm
I have a Toshiba Satellite 5105-S701. I bought a new hard drive (model MK6021GAS same one I’m replacing – 60 gig). When I use the recovery discs (I still have the three original I received on purchase) I get the “Welcome to the Toshiba Recovery utility. This process will restore the original default system…..” “F1=OK, then the warning telling me everything will be erased. Then “C” to continue. After pressing “C” it starts over again and again.
When I use a Windows XP Professional operating system disc I bought to upgrade I get “Press F6 for 3rd party drivers” then “F2 for Automatic Recovery System”. It seems to be reading the disc for the Windows Install then displays: “Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.” and I have to press F3 to quit.
My new hard drive did not come with any diagnostic or setup program. If I need this, could you please advise me where I can get it?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

hi, mylaptop keeps freezing the model number is ps600e-207pk-en
can you offer me a solution to fix this problem?
October 25th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Denny Bennett,
Normally you don’t need any special setup disk to make it work. The recovery disc or Windows XP should detect and format the hard drive.
Is it possible that the new hard drive is bad? Did you buy it from a reliable source?
By the way, you can download Hitachi’s drive fitness test (link in Resources) for testing the hard drive. See if this utility can recognize the hard drive.
Make sure the hard drive is installed correctly and properly connected to the motherboard.
October 25th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Simon Smith,
First of all, test the hard drive and the memory. For the hard drive test you can use Hitachi’s drive fitness test and for memory Memtest86+. Links to both utilities are located on the right side of the website in the Resources.
In most cases, a laptop freezes because of a faulty hard dive or bad memory stick.
Run both utilities and find the culprit.

Looking for the part # for a toshiba pa3373u-1mpc dc power jack. Thank you for the generous advice. The laptop seems to turn off when the cord is moved and it is not the power cord. I am looking for instructions on how to open the laptop to get to the power jack inside
November 4th, 2007 at 10:43 pm
John,
pa3373u-1mpc is not the model part number for your laptop. Take a look at the sticker with the serial number or at least let me know what is your laptop model.

I want to replace my power jack, I cant figure out what part # I need is. here is my #’s toshiba satellite model # psl33u-s2151 there is more #’s L35-S2151 serial # 96048635w. When I look at the parts they are always like A? and P? but never L?. thanks brian
December 11th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Jon,
You’ll find the connector on the back side of the touch pad, under the white sticky tape.
December 11th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Brian Wright,
You need the power cable, not just the jack. In your laptop the power jack is attached to the power cable witch plugs into the motherboard, so you don’t have to resolder the jack.
In order to replace the power jack you’ll have to unplug the old power cable from the motherboard and replace it with a new one.
You’ll find a new power cable (with power jack) by this part number: A000009580
Should work for all Satellite L35 models.
December 22nd, 2007 at 7:20 am
I’m having a power jack problem as well on a Satellite M45. We’ve sent it back to the factory and they gave us a new power cord (you know, the AC plug) but I don’t think they actually replaced the jack/cable itself because 3 days later we have to tilt and bend the AC plug in the jack to get it to magically supply power. I’m hoping that replacing the cable/jack will solve the problem. Is the part number the same as above? Thanks.
December 23rd, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Anthony,
If Toshiba replaced the AC adapter but you still have to adjust the power plug inside the power jack in order to get power to the computer, most likely there is something wrong with the power jack and it has to be replaced. The power jack is attached to the harness. On this model you don’t have to unsolder the jack from the motherboard, you just replace the whole harness. Unplug the harness from the motherboard and plug in a new one. Here’s a part number for the harness (DC-IN cable): V000917470
Here are instructions for taking apart a Toshiba Satellite M45.
If the laptop is still under warranty then I would recommend sending it back to Toshiba again. You can damage the laptop if you decide to take it apart yourself. Toshiba Satellite M45 is not the easiest model to work on.
Again, in your case I would send it back to Toshiba.

Thanks,

December 26th, 2007 at 11:39 pm

The following screens should be compatible with your laptop.
V000053960, V000054030, V000055010, V000080340, V000062770, V000062890.
Search on Google using the part number and find price you like. You can use either screens, they all work with the same video cable: V000060250.

I have look at the motherboard but not sure which one is the part numbers.
I have the following on the board
PCB-TC7778-MB-41A-VER1.0

January 11th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Non of the mentioned number looks like a part number you can use for searching for a replacement.
For US models the motherboard part number looks like this: V000040870, the letter V and nine number after that (numbers are different for different laptop models).
Unfortunately I cannot help you to find the part number for European model.

about the Toshiba Sat Pro 430 cds. I meant the floppy drive. What is the part number for the internal floppy drive and the external floppy drive. The internal can be swapped with the cd-rom. I have the cd-rom, but not the swappable floppy drive. I would like to know what this part number is.
How did you find out about the part number? Is there a website or manual that I can check? My used computer didn’t come with a service manual. Can I download the service manual somewhere in case I need part numbers for failed or missing parts for my laptop.

I have an Toshiba M45 that powers on for just a second or so and shuts down. Originally it would run for a couple of hours and then shut down but would restart. Now when I push the power button the blue lights illuminates for a second and then goes off. Seems this is a common problem and was told the repair would be easy for me to complete but I need to know what part it might be. I’m not real good at troubleshooting the motherboard but I can solder all day long. Is there any way you could tell me which part I might have to replace and what it looks like or where it is located.
Thanks

January 27th, 2008 at 9:45 am
lus,
You can use the following screens: V000070540 and V000070050.
Google for the part number and find the seller.
January 27th, 2008 at 10:05 am
RD of houston,
Here is part numbers for the internal floppy drive: P000236110, P000226820
But in order to mount it inside the laptop you’ll need 5 other parts (brackets and cable). I would try using an external floppy drive, it will save you time and money.
Search for “Toshiba Satellite Pro external floppy” here. You’ll find if for about $10.
January 27th, 2008 at 10:12 am
Sherman Ragbir,
Toshiba has two motherboards listed for this laptop: P000415760 and P000454980. I’m not sure if they are interchangeable. Most likely the second one will be backward compatible with the first one but this is just a guess. You’ll have to ask this question the seller.
By the way, before you replace the motherboard I want’ you to read this post:
Toshiba Qosmio F15-AV201 has a video problem where it only runs in 4 bit mode with vertical lines on the screen
Make sure to read through all comments. I think you can get free repair.
January 27th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Keith,
Could be anything and I don’t think it’s possible to troubleshoot these kind of problems over the internet. The description is too general. Could be a problem with the motherboard.

What is the Toshiba part # for a DC Power Jack for
Toshiba Satellite M45-S265, Model No. PSM40U-07V001?
Thanks.
January 27th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
H Kushner,
In this model the power jack is attached to a power cable. You don’t have to resolder the jack, just replace the power cable. Unplug it from the motherboard and plug in a new one.
Here’s the part number for the power cable (DC-IN cable): V000917470
Google for the part number and you’ll find it.
Here I posted instructions for taking apart a Toshiba Satellite M45 laptop. Could be helpful if you’ve never done it before.

Hi There!
Thanks for this great resource. As per post 283 above, I too had my bottom cover debilitate and crack over the last two years and need a part number for replacement myself [the service center is charging $250 - the machine itself cost $499
]
My Toshiba model is M35X-S114
part/model number: PSA72U-3HC00U
Thanks so much!

i have a toshiba satellite a105-s4064.. my sound button is broken (the wheel you turn to increase/decrease sound was pushed in and is no longer connected to the laptop); called toshiba and they told me that since its attached to the mother board.. i will have to pay to replace the whole mother board and pay for it to be replaced. this is a crazy because i still have warranty on this laptop. anyone know how i can fix this problem with out paying a whole bunch of money?
February 13th, 2008 at 5:38 am
Tommy Treo,
By the bottom cover you mean the base assembly, right? Here’s the part number: K000019260.
I think that’s what you are looking for: base assembly.
February 13th, 2008 at 6:21 am
Chhaya,
Just send this laptop to an authorized repair center and most likely they will fix it under warranty. Find a local center and send your laptop to them. Worth trying.

What do I need to connect my Toshiba Sat Pro 430 CDS laptop to the internet using a pcmcia pc card. I have a type 2 slot but it is a 16 bit type. I see all the ads on pcmcia cards but it requires a 32 bit data bus mastering system.
Is there a card that is compatible with my computer. It came with a XJEM3336 modem/fax pcmcia card but I want to connect to my dsl using an RJ-45 instead of dial-up modem.
Please advise.
thanks.
bye!!

I have a Toshiba M30-166 Spain,

Often the fan, makes a lot of noise and computer overheats. The solution would be to change the module thermal?
Thanks.

RD of houston,
Maybe you need to buy an older 16bit wireless PCMCIA card?
I believe newer 32bit cards will not run in a 16bit slot.
February 21st, 2008 at 9:18 am
Will and andresrguez,
I cannot advise you on laptops sold outside the United States.
@andresrguez
Probably yes. Remove dust from the heatsink, replace thermal compound and replace the fan.
Here are fan part number for a Satellite M30 and M35 laptop sold in the United States. P000370160, P000415730, P000440310. I think you can use the same fan for your laptop.
@Will,
I just looked at motherboards listed for a Toshiba Satellite M30/M35 laptop (USA models) and it looks like there are three different motherboard with 64MB video memory, but the problem is that each motherboard requires specific laptop base. I think the same rule will apply to Canadian models too. Be careful when you are buying a new motherboard. Find a part number somewhere on the motherboard and use it to find an exact replacement.

Hey i got a Toshiba satellite a10-s127 and i got hit hard so bad by viruses and trojens and worms so i had to get a new hard-drive but my sound card didnt get installed and i cant play music or listen to anything because of it, so if you have and solutions i will take them and try them out. Thanks
March 8th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Lukas Vogt,
All you have to do is reformat the hard drive.
I’m not sure what kind of viruses you are talking about but if your computer got infected it’s not necessary to replace the hard drive.
Did you install OS from the Toshiba recovery disc or you used OEM Windows disc? If you used OEM software you’ll have to reinstall device drivers and one of them is the sound card driver. You can download all needed drivers from Toshiba website.

March 26th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
sam lew,
You’ll find laptop disassembly instructions here: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/
But before you disassemble your laptop, try cleaning fan and heatsink with compressed air. Buy a can of compressed air in your local computer store (about $5) and spray it into the fan grill. Try it first.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Erin,
Here it is: V000080280
March 26th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Pat,
Yes, I can.
There are four different LCD screens listed for this part number (PSL2XU-02000F), here they are: A000002050, A000002070, A000004370, A000004090.
You can use either of them because they all work with the same video cable: A000000650.
Google for the part number and you’ll find one. Just in case, you can contact the seller and make sure this screen will work with your laptop. I’m pretty sure it will.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Katie,
I’m not familiar with Acer laptops. Do you have a pointer in the middle of the keyboard, usually it’s a yellow/red button and you can use it for moving the cursor instead of the touchpad.
In some cases, when this pointer on the keyboard fails, the touchpad works very unpredictable. The cursor even may move by itself.
If you don’t have this pointer in the middle of the keyboard, you may have a software relate problem. Did you try booting in Safe Mode and testing your touchpad in there?

I am looking for part number for the entire upper portion of my laptop (so not just the replacement LCD screen). I have a P35-S6112. And if you happen to know the actual namee of the whole upper portion, please let me know. Thanks so much!
April 10th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
nick,
Here’s the part number for your motherboard: K000016350
April 10th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Malia,
Toshiba doesn’t sell the entire upper assembly as a single part, there is no part number.
I would call this part display assembly.
April 12th, 2008 at 3:17 am
Hi, me again. After much research, it seems best to simply replace the screen, and apparently, Toshibas are the easiest (?). I downloaded the instrux from one of your links (or maybe even your sight)…is it really that easy? I can follow those instrux!
Thanks so much!
April 12th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
I’m so sorry to take up so much space, but would you please give me the part number for the replacement lcd screen just to be sure I don’t make a huge mistake? Again, mine is a Toshiba P35-S6112. Thank you again!

I am trying to find a LCD replacement Screen for a Toshiba Satellite
A205-S4797 laptop model number PSAFOU-06H009. I have a local dealer that will install the screen for $150.00. I was told that it would probaly be cheaper to purchase the screen from internet than for them to get it direct from dealer. Can you help me identify the part number that is needed ?
April 15th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
CPH,
I found many different LCD screens listed for a laptop with PSAFOU-06H009 model number. They all should be interchangeable and you can use either one.
Here are part numbers for your LCD replacement: V000062890, V000080340, V000062770, V000100790, V000100910, V000100980, V000101040, V000103090.
Search on Google for the part number and find a reliable seller. Just in case, contact them before you purchase the screen and confirm that it will work with your laptop. Just in case, even though I’m pretty sure it will.
April 15th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Malia,
If you can give me the laptop model number, as CPH did in the comment 390, I can help you to find the part number for your LCD screen.
Satellite P35 laptop has many different configurations and I don’t want to give you a wrong part number.

I have a question reguarding a Toshiba F15-AV201, if someone could point me in the right direction. The displays words keep blinking just the data, an external monitor works fine, tried reinstall the drivers, did not work.
Thanks
Mike
April 19th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Michael Friedman,
Before you do anything with your Qosmio laptop, I would suggest reading comments in this thread. Take a look at comments posted by Scott Smith on December 10th and 18th.
If you bought your laptop in the USA, I think you can get free service from Toshiba even though your laptop is not under warranty any more.
Now regarding your problem:
If I understand correctly, the backlight is on all the time but the image itself (data) keep blinking. This problem could be related to the video cable. It’s possible the cable connections are loose and reseating the cable may help or the cable is bad and has to be replaced. This is just a guess.
April 24th, 2008 at 12:12 am
Oh, sorry, it’s a Toshiba P35-6112 that I need the part number for the replacement LCD. And then, I just purchased a used P35-611, but the a/c adapter and the batter both work and chharge in my 6112, but they do not work and charge in the 611. Any ideas? Can you point me in the right direction to correct this problem? Thanks so much!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Malia,
Still not enough information. Please provide the laptop model number, something like PSAFOU-06H009. You can find this number on the same sticker with the serial number.
I would take a closer look on the power jack. It’s possible that the power jack is not making good connection with the motherboard and because of that the battery will not charge. Take a look at this post dedicated to power jack problems. As an example I took Satellite M35X and A75 but Satellite P35 can have the same problem with the power jack.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Hi there i was looking for information on my Toshiba Sattellite L25-S1192; model:PSL2XU-00Q00P; I accidently messed up my screen and was wondering f there were any interchangeable lcd panels because all the replacement screens i have come across have been super expensive!!! and i am hoping maybe i can find a interchangeable part so maybe i can fix this problem with little money out of my pocket….. i would really appreciate the help!
thanx
April 28th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Amber,
It looks like Toshiba lists only one LCD screen for this model. Here’s the part number: A000000620. Search on Google and hopefully you’ll find a cheap one.

I just found this category; I posted this comment in A60/A65 Problems previously also. Sorry for posting in wrong category; won’t happen again. I can’t find Toshiba A65-S1065 (PA3373U) LCD Latch (V000912750) and LCD Latch Knob (V000912760). I’ve already googled the P/Ns; they are either out of stock/NLA or prohibitively expensive (>$50US). Can you help?
TIA
May 11th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Regarding my previous post (#400): Make that P/Ns V000912750 and V000912760. I found the latch at sparepartwarehouse.com but I really need the knob and would prefer to buy both parts from the same place.
May 11th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Ron Holland,
These part numbers should work for all Toshiba Satellite A60 and A65 laptops:
- display latch: V000912750
- display latch knob: V000912760
- display latch spring: V000912770
If you buy these parts separately, they are expensive. Here’s what you can try. You can buy the whole LCD bottom cover assembly. The part number: V000040370
I believe the LCD cover assembly comes with latch, knob and spring.
If you search for V000040370 here, you’ll find this cover starting $10+plus shipping.

So, here is my problem: I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop at a garage sale for rather cheap. The previous owner did not have any of the original documentation or the recovery disk anymore as they were lost in a previous move… Now, it seems that he formatted the HDD without having the proper drivers handy.
How would I go about finding what the exact model ( I.E., A60, A75, etc.) is if the only thing I have to go on is the part number on the sticker on the under side of the machine? If it is of any assistance, the number I’m referring to is PA3373-1MPC.
I’ll be quite thankful for any help you can give me in this.
June 4th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
MunKiy,
PA3373-1MPC is not the laptop part number. If you can take a picture, upload it somewhere (flickr.com for example) and then link to it, I can take a look and maybe guess the model.
Also, you can try this. Boot the laptop into Windows. After that go to the run box and type msinfo32. In the system summary take a look at the system model line on the right side. It’s possible that you’ll find the laptop model in there. I just tried it on a Toshiba Satellite A105 and it worked.

Need part number for the LCD screen 12.1″ for my Toshiba A25-S207 laptop. It no longer has the original LCD screen so I can’t get the number I need from it.
Thanks so much.
June 8th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Patricia,
Are you sure that you are looking for a 12.1″ screen. I believe Satellite A25 comes with a 15″ screen.
Here are part numbers for a 15″ screen for a Toshiba Satellite A20/A25 laptop.
P000367840, P000367850, P000379090, P000383670.

This part number is correct.
OK, there are two LCD screens listed for this laptop K000023240 (LG Philips LP171WX2-A4K1) and K000023320 (AU B170PW01). Here’s the catch. Even though both LCD screens are similar, they require specific parts. I’m not sure witch part is different, probably hinges.
You’ll have to find out witch LCD is installed on your laptop and replace it with the same model. There is no way I (or anyone else) can tell you witch one is installed on your notebook just by looking at the laptop model number, it’s necessary to remove the LCD screen and take a look on the back side of the screen.

Impressive collection of laptop gurus in this forum. Thanks for the helpful information folks. Especially the graphics cj2600. I now have a couple of inquiries. The Toshiba website has been no help:
First = It is quite obvious by my online searches that Toshiba laptop Power Management has had it’s issues. My wife’s A45-S121 will no longer recognize the AC status. It reports that it is on battery full time even though there is none installed. and it’s on AC 24/7. No bios update to correct this has been found. The laptop otherwise runs fine but I’ve been trying to update to XP-SP3. It won’t allow it because it thinks the system is running on battery. Second = Does anyone know if the 2.8 Celeron processor on the Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 can be upgraded to anything slightly faster? Like a 3.02 Pentium?
July 5th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
I found the LCD. Thanks for all your help.
July 13th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
I have a Toshiba A105-S4364 and I have tried everything to fix this charging problem. For some reason it just keeps coming back. I had my friend try and fix it also and he updated the BIOS as mentioned on this site and that lasted about a week then the problem came back so I tried to update the BIOS again and its telling me that I need to plug in my a/c adapter but it was and for some reason its not recognizing that its plugged in but after my friend updated the BIOS it was charging?
I have tried these solutions already:
Bought a new battery
Bought a new power cord
updated BIOS
Not sure what the deal is but when this problem first occurred I bought the new battery and the light was coming on and my laptop was running off the a/c and charging the battery until it stopped lighting up and then failed to recognize the a/c and I never unplugged it or even moved the laptop. The new power cord made no difference. After the update it did the same and I thought maybe the generic new battery I bought may have failed so I put the oem battery back in and it was charging then I left it over night and the light went off sometime during the night and now once again won’t charge.
Can someone help me figure out this problem?
July 13th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Ron,
Did you try uninstalling the Toshiba power management software?
This could be software or hardware related problem. The only way to find out is reinstalling Windows.
Also, you can try this. Boot your laptop from Knoppix-Live Linux CD. When it boots to the desktop take a look at the battery status in the lower right corner.
If the power source is detected properly (AC power) then you problem is related to Windows. Try reinstalling Windows.
If the power source says battery even though the laptop runs on AC, most likely there is something wrong with the battery charging circuit on the motherboard.
Some Satellite A45 laptops come with P4 2.40GHz, 2.66GHz, 2.80GHz processors but these models have different motherboards. I cannot tell if your motherboard will support P4 CPU. Toshiba doesn’t provide any information about that. You’ll have to try.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Tony,
From comment 417.
I think your problem could be:
1. Bad power jack. You’ll have to unplug the old power jack harness from the motherboard and replace it with a new one. Search for a new power jack by this part number: V000922060. You’ll find laptop disassembly instructions at http://www.irisvista.com
2. Motherboard problem. If new power jack didn’t fix the problem, most likely it’s related to the motherboard.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciate it. I am gonna look up that part and try to change it out.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
I have a Toshiba M45-S331
Recently my system tries to access CD drive even when CD is not present and it just uses the computer resources for few minutes not allowing me to do any thing. This mostly happens during startup and when waking up from hibernation.
Also sometimes it does not play cd/dvd and I cannot even eject the CD. One time I saw it disappear from Device Manager.
Do you think the drive has gone bad? If I need to change it is it something that I can do it myself (I am tech savvy).
Lastly, does anyone know the part number and where can I order it from?
Thank you.
July 19th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Dadblastit! I’m back! I got the replacement…it’s all genuine, and the numbers match and everything…was absolutely unbelievably incredibly fantastic AT FIRST. The next morning when I lifted the lid, the LCD is flickering…if I change the default pixels, it will stop, but what could be the real problem here? I got the exact same thing! Help……………….I’m so frustrated!
July 20th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Malia,
Could be loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. Try reconnecting the cable.
I secure the video cable by placing clear tape above the connector.
July 20th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Surya,
It’s possible there is bad connection between the CD/DVD drive and the motherboard. Try reconnecting the drive. Remove it from the laptop and then install back in. Test the drive.
Yes, it’s possible that the drive is going bad. You can replace the drive yourself, it’s not difficult. You’ll find disassembly instructions for Satellite M45 at http://www.irisvista.com
Take a look at the disassembly steps 6 and 7. All you have to do is remove one screw on the bottom of the laptop and then pull the drive from the laptop.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-265. The Model Number it PSM40U-07V001. I was told that my AC Adapter jack on my computer is loose. The person who looked at it was unable to tell me if the AC Adapter was soldered to the motherboard or not. I am aware that if it is soldered, it will be a costly repair and would be better off buying a new computer. However if not attatched, it would be less expensive and I would not have to buy a new computer. Do you know if it is attached or not or where I can find out without paying someone? thanks :0
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:34 am
Amanda,
In this model the power jack is not soldered to the motherboard, you can unplug it from the motherboard and replace with a new one without soldering. You can find a new power jack (DC-IN harness) if you search for this part number: V000917470

The display on our Toshiba Satellite A100 model # PSAANC -VA305C is very broken. I’m using my NEC external right now.
I’m in Ontario Canada and would like to look for a good used replacement localy if you could shoot me the right part numbers.
The wife won’t let me open it up until I have a new one sitting here.
Thanks.
Greg
August 25th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Santo,
That sounds like connection related problem. If you removed the heat sink, it’s possible that you pulled the CPU from the socket. Remove the heat sink and reseat the CPU. Make sure it’s locked inside the socket.
Also, check the memory module. Make sure it’s seated correctly. Reconnect the memory module.
August 25th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Gregory,
Sorry, I cannot help you with the Canadian model.
The best way would be removing the screen (it takes about 10 minutes) and searching for the part number on the back of the LCD. After that you can find a new screen using the original part number.

pls can u help
September 15th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
bhavesh,
There should be instructions on the Toshiba website.
Basically, you download the latest BIOS, then click on the file to unzip, select the method of installation (from floppy, CD, Windows). Just make sure your laptop is connected to the AC power all the time.

Hi CJ,
I have a Sat. M30 (PSM33C-YSJ00E) purchased in Canada, got problem a week ago.
Green power LED is on but when On/Off button pushed, it runs for a few seconds and stops.
There is no screen at all, even with an external monitor.
Is it related to Mainboard or CPU??
Any suggestion is appreciated.

Hi i have a toshiba satellite M45-S2653 laptop. Model no is PSM40U-11Z04H. The volume control potentiometer is not working on this. Could you please help me in finding the part no for this potentiometer.
Thanks
Tama
December 7th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Tama,
Unfortunately, the volume control wheel is soldered on the motherboard and Toshiba doesn’t supply this wheel separately. You’ll have to replace the whole motherboard ( part number V000051700 ) or find a local electronics shop who can repair the motherboard.
December 7th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Joe,
You can use DVD drives with the following Toshiba part numbers: K000046050, K000050170, K000054040, K000056410. They all are double layer super multidrives and interchangeable.

I am looking at purchasing a used Toshiba Satellite 1415-s173 with a broken screen. I have replaced many screens in the past but able to get exact # from back of screen. I am not able to open this one until I purchase it. I want to know how much a replacement screen will cost in order to know if this would be worth it for me. I deal with a site called laptopaid and they use different part #’s. I have been on Toshiba’s site looking for this # but havent found it. Can you tell the replacement # just from the model?
LP150×08 A3 is an example of the information they require to locate replacements.
Hope you can help.

I am using a Toshiba Satellite M55-S325 here at work per my employer, and it has come to me with inoperable ethernet connection.
1.) I have run windows updates,
2.) verified that the device is enabled in the BIOS, applied the latest BIOS v2.10 update,
3.) and run the version 10.66.4.3 update for drivers for the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 device.
Alas, still no success.
Employer tells me that he used this laptop sparingly, and that within past several months, it stopped working. The LED’s on the RJ45 port do not light up when a working cable and router are plugged into the laptop.
So my best guess is that the physical hardware itself became damaged at some point.
Do you believe this to be a likely problem, or could there be another solution I am unaware of? I am reading of various overheating and other such problems with these laptops, but so far, have not had any of the sound, V92 modem, heat or other such problems others are having with this or similar toshiba laptops.
Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have a toshiba qusimo g35-av600,
its no longer under warranty.
A few weeks ago when I went to play my online game,it failed to load, saying my graphics card wasnt good enough.
I played the game for 3 yrs on that laptop.
I couldnt find an update for my nvidia graphics driver,I winded up restoring windows because upon trying to uninstall the nvidia driver then reinstall,it failed and I could not reboot, even in safe mode,or vga.
now, when it boots up all the letters and numbers are missing in places and there is various symbols.
even when I press f8,the options are missing letters and numbers in the words.
It will only boot up in safe or vga mode, and the screen has blocks all through it.
I have come to the conclusion the motherboard must be the issue.
I cant find one anywhere.
Any help on this?
Am I right,is it the motherboard?
also,if I uninstall the vidia driver,it will boot up ,but the screen has the same problems.
Ive completely took it apart, and cleaned the fans, and it still has the same problems.
BTW I wish I knew of this site before I did that,I had loads of fun,not knowing what to take apart first
only thing I didnt do was take the cpu out in your final step.
January 4th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
continued,
also it doesnt matter if i use an external monitor,it shows the same on it as well.
plus ,a few hours before this all happened,I downloaded a music video that failed to play and just froze my system even if I just right clicked it,instant freeze of system.
I winded up deleting it in safe mode.
Not sure if thats related to my issues.

hello im looking to the hook latches that hold the screen closed for a toshiba a205-s5800
January 28th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Ed,
For this model Toshiba doesn’t sell latches separately. The latches are a part of the LCD bezel (LCD mask) – the plastic frame around your LCD screen. If the latches are broken, you’ll have to replace the LCD bezel.
Here’s the part number.
V000100010 for 15.4″ LCD bezel with web camera.
V000100020 for 15.4″ LCD bezel without web camera.

Hi,
So called “spill resistant” did not handle glass of red wine. I need to find out keyboard part number. I have Tecra A7 PTA71E-09400MCZ. I know this is not model for US market, but someone could know the answer anyway as I am 100% sure the exactly same keyboard is used in other models. I have seen it across several Satellites and some of Tecra A8 has it too (they even share the power button panel) I don’t think so Toshiba uses different keyboards only different keyboard vendors. It is 87 keys keyboard with no trackpoint. Windows key located at left down corner. You can see on website couple of photos that this is standart toshiba keyboard. But labeled with part numbers which doesn’t fit anything I’ve seen. Can you tell me any toshiba keyboard (probably from tecra or satellite ) which is same as mine? I don’t care about language as I can swap buttons and I am using english layout anyway.
Many thanks

I have a toshiba satellite M45-S359
Model No. PSM42U-017006
The dc jack is faulty, and can’t get a good connection to power up the computer and battery is dead. But before that problem occurred, when the computer was the cooling fan wouldn’t come on, and after approx 20 mins the computer would shut down. I was going to
1. Get new dc jack, and
2. Get new cooling fan.
Then run diagnostics, e.g.BIOS, etc.
Comments, advice?

I’m selling a new replacement screen for my satellite M35-S456 and someone who owns a satellite a105 s4084 wants to know if the screen will work in his satellite even though it’s different. Do you think this true bright screen is interchangeable with other satellites?

I have a toshiba satellite M45-S355 model PSM40U-073001 with what I was told a “bad” motherboard. It will boot, run for 15m or so, freeze. It was taken in for repair, cleaned, returned to me with the bad news about the motherboad. Now the curser won’t move using the touch screen after the disk drive was reinserted. I need part # for motherboard and maybe resources for repair that will not cost me more than its worth. Everything else is in good shape and the screen is perfect.
February 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
joyce,
Here’s the motherboard part number for your laptop: V000051700.
By the way, can you hear the fan working? Maybe the cooling fan is bad and your laptop freezes because of overheating. Also, I would check the RAM modules. Do you have two modules installed? Try removing them one by one. Test the laptop with each module separately. If the laptop works fine with one module and freezes with the second one, apparently the second RAM module is defective.
February 22nd, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Frank,
It’s hard to tell without testing. If both screens have the same type of connector for the video cable, there is a chance that the screen will work.
A while ago I installed LCD screen from a Satellite A105 into a Satellite M35X laptop and it worked fine, but again, there is no guaranty if it’s true for other Satellite laptops.

I think it will easier and cheaper to replace the motherboard.
You can find the motherboard part number where the memory slots are located. There should be a sticker with the part number in there. Google the part number and you’ll find it.

Did you try eBay? Search for SANSUNG LT150X3 and you’ll find many of them. Now, I found some screens SANSUNG LT150X3 with a different number after the dash (not 134). I’m not sure if they are compatible with your screen, I would suggest contacting the seller.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A135 PSAD0U-0N700P, and I am looking for a DC Jack with Cable to plug — I do not know how to solder and I do not have any tools for that.
It would be great if you can help me find the part number for this model.
I found this part TS291925, but it seems to be just for Toshiba A105.
Thanks for your time
April 29th, 2009 at 10:37 am
SEB,
Unfortunately, in a Satellite A135 laptop the power jack comes attached to the motherboard. Yes, it’s on a pigtail cable, but the cable itself is soldered to the motherboard. Because of that Toshiba doesn’t supply this DC-IN harness separately and there is no part number.
You have a few options to fix/replace/modify the power jack in this laptop but they all require soldering skills.

Hey, i have an m35 s456 special edition that I can get to boot up but as soon as i turn it off it has to sit for 15 to 20 minutes before it will start up again. During the downtime the front panel plug light flashes an error code. I can reset the laptop by unplugging battery and cord, when i plug it back in the plug light turns blue as normal but as soon as i hit power button it starts the code again. I have ruled out heating issues as it doesnt matter if the laptop runs 5 seconds or 5 minutes, its always the same symptom.
S= short blink
L= long blink
SLSSLLLS
Then they all go blank for 2 or 3 seconds and the code repeats.
any help is greatly appreciated. thanks, Dustin
May 13th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
Dustin,
If you have two memory modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each memory separately. If the laptop still giving you the same error message, most likely it’s the motherboard failure.

Here is my problems:
Laptop qosmio F15
Problems:
1. turn on the laptop then suddenly vertical dash line every where.
2. after turning on, it goes pass the bios and the logo QOSMIO, then it just have a blank screen and on the top left hand corner it have a ___ that all.
Solutions tried so far:
1. replace the hard drive. doesn’t help.
2. try to connect a monitors to the laptop to see if the vertical linen would go away. NO. doesn’t help.
3. will try to replace the ram this weekend.
Any ides what going on?
May 17th, 2009 at 9:00 am
Anh ha,
Sounds like a problem with the video card and it’s a known issue with Qosmio F15 laptops. Read this article for more information (take a look at comments too). I know that a while ago Toshiba was fixing this problem at no charge even on out of warranty laptops. They were replacing motherboards because of some kind of video failure.
Before you do anything else, try calling Toshiba and ask for a free repair.

I tried to power my Toshiba Satelitte A205-S5000 with an unrecommended more powerful battery and must have blown something on the motherboard. Since then, my original battery which has 22% power left before the incident is no longer charging,no longer proving backup nor powering the system. It works fine on another toshiba laptop.
Although the system when powered up with direct AC recognizes that the battery is present, and even indicate that it is charging, but the battery indicator does not rise past the 22% power, even after several hours and days.
Please help. Is the problem the charging IC on the board? Can it be replaced? or do I have to buy a new board entirely?

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite 2450-101, PS245E-10TMY-EN.
The hinges have given way, so it has to be propped open. Do you know where I can find replacement parts?
I could probably work out how to fit the parts if I knew where to find them?
Thank you in advance
June 7th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Sam,
Looks like this is a European model and unfortunately I cannot give you the part number. If you search on eBay for “2450 hinges” you’ll find them.
June 7th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Luana M,
Here are part numbers for compatible LCD screens for your laptop:
V000053960, V000054030, V000055010, V000080340, V000062770, V000062890, V000100790, V000101040.
Search by the LCD part number.
It looks like Samsung LTN154X3-L06 is one of them (two last part numbers).

June 14th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Maryann,
There are two motherboards listed for this Satellite M35X. First K000019630 and second K000025210. I believe the second one is a newer release and it’s backward compatible with the first one. You can use either motherboard.

Hi,
I have a Qosmio G25 that is giving me a power light code of 01001110 which i think is 72h. Something with the ‘PCOREV’ being under 1.08 volts upon boot. The machine will not start up, just gives the code.
Does anyone know what the ‘PCOREV’ is and what I need to fix / replace??
Thanks very much,

I’ve been looking for new factory direct heatsinks ( vga and cpu ) as replacements for the ones I’ve removed from my currently disassembled Toshiba Qosmio F15-AV201 laptop. ( model/part # PQF10U-00K00H )
The numbers on the CPU and VGA heatsinks respectively are : Z41016 and Z40924 . There don’t appear to be any other markings.
More curious is the fact that one of Toshiba’s Authorized Parts Distributors does not seem to carry these specific parts. :
http://www.encompassparts.com/.....F10U00K00H
Might anyone know where to find these heatsinks?
Thanks,
Jonathan
July 28th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Jonathan Busby,
Do you really need heat sinks or you are asking about cooling fans?
CPU fan part number: P000388590
VGA fan part number: P000412700.
July 28th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
“Do you really need heat sinks or you are asking about cooling fans?”
I was referring to the heatsinks, not the fans, and I really need them.

My six year old Toshiba A15-S127 would not system restore, it would not rewrite in certain sectors. I purchased a new hard drive. Can you help me replace my hard drive? I understand that I need an ESD–I live in the backwoods of the BigIsland of Hawaii (city-Kapaau, state-Hawaii). If you think stuff is expensive–try living here, we pay a shipping fees that other non-usa countries pay. Please help
July 30th, 2009 at 8:03 am
russ dean,
It shouldn’t be very hard because the hard drive can be accessed from the bottom of the laptop. Take a look at this disassembly guide for Satellite A10/A15 laptops.
In the step 4 you can see where the hard drive is located. Remove the old drive and transfer mounting bracket to the new one. Install new hard drive into the laptop.
In order to reinstall factory software (OS and applications) you’ll have to run the recovery disc (supplied with the laptop).
Insert the recovery disc into the DVD drive and turn on the laptop. It should boot from the recovery disc. Follow instructions on the screen.

It turns out that the CPU heatsink for the Toshiba Qosmio F15-AV201 corresponds to Toshiba part no. P000409260 which is usually labeled “FIN” .
As for the VGA heat sink, the good news is that factory direct replacements are available; The bad news is that it has no Toshiba part number as it can only be obtained by buying the F15 system board — PN : P000415760 , “PCB SET ASSEMBLY, FCLSY1″ . In other words, the VGA heat sink is “integrated” with the system board. I have no idea why Toshiba did this as the heat sink is clearly a separate part and can be removed. And unfortunately, the price of the system board is upwards of $360 USD new.

Hi – my husband spilled milk all our keyboard, some keys don’t work as a result. I am trying to figure out what replacement keyboard I need to order? I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S3315. Part No. PSM50U-0M901V.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Shannon,
There is only one keyboard listed for your Satellite M55. The keyboard part number is K000027960.
You can find a new replacement keyboard here very inexpensively. Good luck!

Carolyn Walsh,
Sorry, it’s not sold in the USA. I cannot help you with the part number.
1. Try to find the motherboard part number in the memory compartment, it might look like that: P000431260 or similar.
2. If there is no P-number, you’ll have to remove the top cover and search for the part number on the motherboard itself. Look for the A-number, something like A5A001037. It will be printed on the motherboard, not on a sticker.
After you find the part number, google it or search on eBay.

How can I find out what power cord I need for the laptop model name Toshiba Satellite PA3373U-1MPC? thanks

Darren,
It’s not the right number. Take a look for the laptop Model Number on a different sticker.
The model number is on the sticker with the model name.

Belina Black,
I believe you cannot buy these hooks separately, at least Toshiba doesn’t list them as a separate part. They come as a part of the LCD bezel assembly.
If hooks are broken, you’ll have to replace the LCD bezel. Here’s the part number for the bezel: K000047080
When you find a seller, contact him and make sure that hooks are attached to the bezel. Some sellers can sell the bezel without hooks.

hI CJ, my 6 year old Satellite P25-S605 is displaying classic video card symptoms-So, I bow to the inevitable and am ready to buy a systemboard for this aged BEAST of a machine. The specific part # is a PSP2OU-012RJR. My question is this- which of the P25 motherboards can I use, and whether or not I can replace what I have w/ a board w/better vid? I’m willing to keep useing this ox ,but most of the programs i use would work much better w/128m of vid ram. Thanks for your help.

Mark,
There are two motherboards listed for this model, both have 64MB video RAM:
1. Full featured motherboard with part number: K000006610
2. Motherboard without CIR with part number: K000009310 (not sure what CIR is but it’s cheaper than the first motherboard).
You can find the part number on your motherboard in the memory compartment. Remove memory modules and you should see the sticker with the motherboard part number.
Some Satellite P25 laptops had motherboard with 128MB video ram. I think you can use on of these boards if you can find it. Here are part numbers for motherboards with 128MB video memory:
1. Motherboard without CIR: K000014070
2. Motherboard with CIR: K000014050

binu,
I can help only with laptop sold in the USA. I think you can find the part number in the memory compartment.
Remove memory modules and search for a white sticker. The motherboard part number could be printed on that sticker.
This is a very strange failure. Does it work fine after the Vista logo?

cj2600, I have gleened much from this site, BUT multiple times you refer the yellow flashing light code error, as a mother board replacement…is there anyway to trouble shoot the board to find where on the power pathways a componant would have a fail by design failsafe, to minimize damage?
I have a tosh sat 1415-S173 that has new ram, new HD, good batt all tested and charged on my 2405-S201, AC plugged in…nothing…batt causes yellow code. it is clean inside, no liquid damage…Also the 3 backup disks, will they format the new HD? I really want to fix these both up to donate to a halfway house for men out of prison. The 2405-S201 SCSI target ID for the SD slot, and the DVD/CDR both show 0… both power up but do not read, rather they ask for media to be incerted.
Grace to you, neighbor

Quinn,
Unfortunately I cannot help you with that. I don’t fix motherboards on the component level. If the motherboard is bad replace it.

Toshiba psm43u-00s00f
problem is a very dim LCD. If I play with the brightness controls, it does dim the LCD further, just will not go brighter. Someone already pulled the bezel apart from the LCD and I see the backlight illuminating.
I’m guestimating that the backlight doesn’t put out the lumins it once did and requires replacing. Your assessment would be appreciative.

Justin,
That’s a strange failure or maybe I’m missing something. So you can make it dimmer but not brighter?
Have you tried using Fn+F8 keyboard shortcut? Press and hold down the Fn key and at the same time tap on the F8 key. Will it make any difference?

my toshiba laptop is not displaying anything harddisk led is showing an activity, nothing is displaying, laptop comes on,help!!!!!!!!!!

kumuyu musyoka,
Could be memory failure.
1. Try reseating memory modules.
2. Try moving the memory module from one slot to another.
3. If you have two modules installed, test the laptop with each module separately.
