I want to replace a failed part in the Toshiba laptop myself. How can I find the part number?
If your Toshiba laptop is not under warranty anymore and you have decided to open and repair it yourself , then you should know how to find a part number for the laptop part you want to replace. Almost every part and cable in Toshiba laptops has its own part number and should be replaced only with the same part or a substitute part. To find the part number look for a sticker or for a sign on the part. Toshiba part number would be something like V000040870, A000004270, P000343780, etc. After you find the part number you can search here.
If you cannot find a part number for your Toshiba laptop, I can help you. Just leave me a comment with the part name you are looking for, the laptop model name and the laptop model number. For example: laptop model name Toshiba Satellite A75-S211 and laptop model number PSA70U-0WK00G. This information is located on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop.
I would be able to help to find a part number only for laptops sold in the USA.
Here are more tips for finding a correct part for your notebook.
UPDATE:
I just started a new project - free laptop repair related classifieds.
You can see this site here: Any Notebook Part
If you are selling new or used laptop parts, used laptops, you can place your ad on this site. It’s free.
You can request parts too, maybe somebody has them for sale.

Tony,
From comment 417.
I think your problem could be:
1. Bad power jack. You’ll have to unplug the old power jack harness from the motherboard and replace it with a new one. Search for a new power jack by this part number: V000922060. You’ll find laptop disassembly instructions at www.irisvista.com
2. Motherboard problem. If new power jack didn’t fix the problem, most likely it’s related to the motherboard.

Ron,
Did you try uninstalling the Toshiba power management software?
This could be software or hardware related problem. The only way to find out is reinstalling Windows.
Also, you can try this. Boot your laptop from Knoppix-Live Linux CD. When it boots to the desktop take a look at the battery status in the lower right corner.
If the power source is detected properly (AC power) then you problem is related to Windows. Try reinstalling Windows.
If the power source says battery even though the laptop runs on AC, most likely there is something wrong with the battery charging circuit on the motherboard.
Some Satellite A45 laptops come with P4 2.40GHz, 2.66GHz, 2.80GHz processors but these models have different motherboards. I cannot tell if your motherboard will support P4 CPU. Toshiba doesn’t provide any information about that. You’ll have to try.

I have a Toshiba A105-S4364 and I have tried everything to fix this charging problem. For some reason it just keeps coming back. I had my friend try and fix it also and he updated the BIOS as mentioned on this site and that lasted about a week then the problem came back so I tried to update the BIOS again and its telling me that I need to plug in my a/c adapter but it was and for some reason its not recognizing that its plugged in but after my friend updated the BIOS it was charging?
I have tried these solutions already:
Bought a new battery
Bought a new power cord
updated BIOS
Not sure what the deal is but when this problem first occurred I bought the new battery and the light was coming on and my laptop was running off the a/c and charging the battery until it stopped lighting up and then failed to recognize the a/c and I never unplugged it or even moved the laptop. The new power cord made no difference. After the update it did the same and I thought maybe the generic new battery I bought may have failed so I put the oem battery back in and it was charging then I left it over night and the light went off sometime during the night and now once again won’t charge.
Can someone help me figure out this problem?

Impressive collection of laptop gurus in this forum. Thanks for the helpful information folks. Especially the graphics cj2600. I now have a couple of inquiries. The Toshiba website has been no help:
First = It is quite obvious by my online searches that Toshiba laptop Power Management has had it’s issues. My wife’s A45-S121 will no longer recognize the AC status. It reports that it is on battery full time even though there is none installed. and it’s on AC 24/7. No bios update to correct this has been found. The laptop otherwise runs fine but I’ve been trying to update to XP-SP3. It won’t allow it because it thinks the system is running on battery. Second = Does anyone know if the 2.8 Celeron processor on the Toshiba Satellite A45-S121 can be upgraded to anything slightly faster? Like a 3.02 Pentium?

Malia,
I’m SO sorry, but I’m back with the right number (I hope!): PSP30U-20N001. I need the replacement LCD worse than ever now!
This part number is correct.
OK, there are two LCD screens listed for this laptop K000023240 (LG Philips LP171WX2-A4K1) and K000023320 (AU B170PW01). Here’s the catch. Even though both LCD screens are similar, they require specific parts. I’m not sure witch part is different, probably hinges.
You’ll have to find out witch LCD is installed on your laptop and replace it with the same model. There is no way I (or anyone else) can tell you witch one is installed on your notebook just by looking at the laptop model number, it’s necessary to remove the LCD screen and take a look on the back side of the screen.

I’m back…I know you must think I’m totally nuts. But I took it apart, and my Toshiba LCD part # is the first one you mentioned: LG Philips LP171WX2-A4K1. BUT here’s *my* catch….I don’t know how to find this part so I can replace it….I sound so whiny; I’m sorry, but can you point me in the right direction?
