If your Toshiba laptop is not under warranty anymore and you have decided to open and repair it yourself , then you should know how to find a part number for the laptop part you want to replace. Almost every part and cable in Toshiba laptops has its own part number and should be replaced only with the same part or a substitute part. To find the part number look for a sticker or for a sign on the part. Toshiba part number would be something like V000040870, A000004270, P000343780, etc. After you find the part number you can search here.
If you cannot find a part number for your Toshiba laptop, I can help you. Just leave me a comment with the part name you are looking for, the laptop model name and the laptop model number. For example: laptop model name Toshiba Satellite A75-S211 and laptop model number PSA70U-0WK00G. This information is located on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop.
I would be able to help to find a part number only for laptops sold in the USA.
Here are more tips for finding a correct part for your notebook.

Amanda,
In this model the power jack is not soldered to the motherboard, you can unplug it from the motherboard and replace with a new one without soldering. You can find a new power jack (DC-IN harness) if you search for this part number: V000917470

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-265. The Model Number it PSM40U-07V001. I was told that my AC Adapter jack on my computer is loose. The person who looked at it was unable to tell me if the AC Adapter was soldered to the motherboard or not. I am aware that if it is soldered, it will be a costly repair and would be better off buying a new computer. However if not attatched, it would be less expensive and I would not have to buy a new computer. Do you know if it is attached or not or where I can find out without paying someone? thanks :0

Surya,
It’s possible there is bad connection between the CD/DVD drive and the motherboard. Try reconnecting the drive. Remove it from the laptop and then install back in. Test the drive.
Yes, it’s possible that the drive is going bad. You can replace the drive yourself, it’s not difficult. You’ll find disassembly instructions for Satellite M45 at http://www.irisvista.com
Take a look at the disassembly steps 6 and 7. All you have to do is remove one screw on the bottom of the laptop and then pull the drive from the laptop.

Malia,
Could be loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. Try reconnecting the cable.
I secure the video cable by placing clear tape above the connector.

Dadblastit! I’m back! I got the replacement…it’s all genuine, and the numbers match and everything…was absolutely unbelievably incredibly fantastic AT FIRST. The next morning when I lifted the lid, the LCD is flickering…if I change the default pixels, it will stop, but what could be the real problem here? I got the exact same thing! Help……………….I’m so frustrated!

I have a Toshiba M45-S331
Recently my system tries to access CD drive even when CD is not present and it just uses the computer resources for few minutes not allowing me to do any thing. This mostly happens during startup and when waking up from hibernation.
Also sometimes it does not play cd/dvd and I cannot even eject the CD. One time I saw it disappear from Device Manager.
Do you think the drive has gone bad? If I need to change it is it something that I can do it myself (I am tech savvy).
Lastly, does anyone know the part number and where can I order it from?
Thank you.

Tony,
From comment 417.
I think your problem could be:
1. Bad power jack. You’ll have to unplug the old power jack harness from the motherboard and replace it with a new one. Search for a new power jack by this part number: V000922060. You’ll find laptop disassembly instructions at http://www.irisvista.com
2. Motherboard problem. If new power jack didn’t fix the problem, most likely it’s related to the motherboard.

Ron,
Did you try uninstalling the Toshiba power management software?
This could be software or hardware related problem. The only way to find out is reinstalling Windows.
Also, you can try this. Boot your laptop from Knoppix-Live Linux CD. When it boots to the desktop take a look at the battery status in the lower right corner.
If the power source is detected properly (AC power) then you problem is related to Windows. Try reinstalling Windows.
If the power source says battery even though the laptop runs on AC, most likely there is something wrong with the battery charging circuit on the motherboard.
Some Satellite A45 laptops come with P4 2.40GHz, 2.66GHz, 2.80GHz processors but these models have different motherboards. I cannot tell if your motherboard will support P4 CPU. Toshiba doesn’t provide any information about that. You’ll have to try.

I have a Toshiba A105-S4364 and I have tried everything to fix this charging problem. For some reason it just keeps coming back. I had my friend try and fix it also and he updated the BIOS as mentioned on this site and that lasted about a week then the problem came back so I tried to update the BIOS again and its telling me that I need to plug in my a/c adapter but it was and for some reason its not recognizing that its plugged in but after my friend updated the BIOS it was charging?
I have tried these solutions already:
Bought a new battery
Bought a new power cord
updated BIOS
Not sure what the deal is but when this problem first occurred I bought the new battery and the light was coming on and my laptop was running off the a/c and charging the battery until it stopped lighting up and then failed to recognize the a/c and I never unplugged it or even moved the laptop. The new power cord made no difference. After the update it did the same and I thought maybe the generic new battery I bought may have failed so I put the oem battery back in and it was charging then I left it over night and the light went off sometime during the night and now once again won’t charge.
Can someone help me figure out this problem?
