Today I got Toshiba Satellite A105-S2712 for repair with the battery charging problem. It is a new model and we do not have a lot of experience with these laptops. The customer complained that the laptop will not charge the battery when it is plugged into the AC outlet.
The laptop failure symptoms:
The laptop will not turn on when I try to start it from the battery. When the laptop is turned off and plugged into the AC outlet the battery charge LED doesn’t light up. I know that the battery is not charged and the LED should light up when I plug the laptop into the AC outlet. The laptop starts fine when it is plugged. When I move the mouse over the Toshiba Power Icon in the lower right corner, the balloon will pop up and there is a line in there: Battery Remaining: N/A.
The problem repair procedure:
You can easily fix the problem just by updating the BIOS. Toshiba says that the BIOS version should be at least v1.30. So, go to Toshiba website and click on Downloads. Select your laptop model and find any downloads for the BIOS. In the BIOS change history you will see the description of changes.
After I updated the BIOS, the battery charging problem disappeared.

I have a Toshiba Satellite modle # PSA60U-0KT06N
It was not having any problems to start, but started running slower then stoped, it will not boot or post at all, when pluged into AC the AC light is green, and the battery light is amber, and never changing. I let it sit for a few days to see if it would charge or make any difference but it does not. If I try to power it up all the lights just shut off and it does nothing, perhaps someone can point me in the right direction? it is not under warranty.

Farrag,
Try reinstalling the operating system because it could be a software related issue. If reinstalling the OS will not help, probably you have a problem with the motherboard. The LAN port is located on the motherboard, as you can see on the step 20 in this disassembly guide.

Daniel,
but they modified the charging code somehow. If it doesn’t help, probably you have a hardware related issue, maybe a bad battery.
when I look up for the latest version of BIOS for Satellite A105-S2712 it shows up as version 1.80 released on 01/19/2007. Try this one, in the change history it says: “Modified the AC plug in charging code so the system will do a pre-charge for 3 seconds prior to quick charging”. I don’t really understand what it means
Unplug the AC adapter, remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. Install the battery and try charging it again. Not sure if it’s going to help but try it just in case.

I have the Toshiba Satelite L25-S1194 and my battery will not charge more then 7%. My first AC charger from Toshiba burned out so I bought the Targus replacement AC charger. My computer runs when pluged into the charger but will not charge. The battery light stays a solid amber. I am starting to think I have a defective computer since so many things have been breaking on it.
I’m willing to try anything and this laptop is only a year old.

I am having the Toshiba Satelite battery problem also. Unfortunitly the serial code on the bottom of my computer has worn out and I can not see what model I have. It’s the big 17″ monitor and is now 2 ears old if that helps.
What can I do this battery problem is a big hassel.
THANK-YOU!!
