Steps for taking apart the display assembly are similar across many different makes and brands. Take a look at some laptop display disassembly instructions. Read through a few guides and you’ll see a lot of similar steps.

I had my monitor go black on me last night, and saw on your site that I could get the maintenance and service manual for my Compaq Presario C503WM Notebook PC (C500 Series) at the HP website, which would enable me to check and reset the cable, if that’s what it needed. Unfortunately, they don’t have one for the C500 Series (this is what they told me via chat). It’s a little difficult to try and explore the monitor assembly without some sort of schematic, so I’m a little stuck. I’m afraid if I wrestle my way through to the actual connectors of the monitor, I might break the hinges — I really neded some kind of assembly diagram. Any ideas?

Possibly bad RAM. Do you know if you have two RAM modules installed? Try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each RAM module separately. Will it work with one of the modules installed?

Why do you think the problem is related to the LCD or cable? That could be memory related problem. Try replacing memory with a known good module. If you still experiencing the same problem, there is a chance that you have bad motherboard.

HI there—I have a HP Pavillion that’s only 2 years old. When I try to turn it on, all the blue lights come on but nothing happens—screen is black. Any suggestions? Thank you!

i have a compaq presario 2100 and it keeps turning on and off every 5sec. if its the lcd cable i will have to take the lcd panel apart?

I see two comments here asking about a blinking caps lock + num lock when a laptop won’t boot up.
I have an HP L2000 Special Edition and I believe it will exhibit this behavior if the CPU socket is not locked or there is no CPU installed. It could also be a faulty CPU.
For me, the lights blinked in sync at approx a 1 sec interval. Like an amateur I forgot to lock the CPU socket when I was replacing a CPU.
