Andy,
On some laptops you cannot remove the BIOS password by removing the main and RTC batteries, apparently that’s the case with your Compaq laptop. I afraid you’ll have to replace the motherboard and ship it for service to HP.
I’ve found the BIOS removal instructions for a Compaq Evo here, but it’s looks like you’ve tried it already. Please let me know if you find the solution.

My co-worker’s daughter changed the bios in her Compaq Evo N-400c and promptly forgot it. I was asked me for help. I have tried almost everything to reset the CMOS. I removed the main and RTC batteries, took out the hard drive and let it set overnight. I plugged it back in without the main battery (per the Compaq repair manual) and it still asks me for a “Power-on Password.” How is this even possible? Is there some capacitor I have to drain the power from? I have checked the system board and cannot not find any jumpers. It’s not my computer, but it is still frustrating. Any suggestions?

my problem is about my battery and charger..
i have charged it for an hour and after i checed it, it still says 1% so i tried to unplug it on our outlet. And it so happened that my computer has turned off automatically. so i plugged the charger again and turned my laptop on. please help me solve this problem.

my laptop is not getting on, as I connect my power adapter and then it shows light on power button and light off for hdd, and display is totally dead and after sometime when we press any kay then It itself gets off.

I have a R4000 that will only run on battery, not on AC. The AC charge light on the PC doesn’t light and it doesn’t charge the battery. The AC charger is good, I had access to another charger. Have done a hard reset. Redone the ACPI. What’s next??

I have an HP L2000 that I got from eBay. It too had the blinking caps light and scroll light and would not start. The CPU had not been locked and was loose. Lock it in place and away we go.

I have a compaq armada 7400 that will not charge the battery. Purchased new battery, but it just ran down the battery and did not recharge. Is there a way to test to see if the charger section is working, or pin out diagram? Should I just purchase an outboard charger?
