Can you see the hard drive in the BIOS? Set the BIOS to default, if there is such an option. Run Hitachi’s drive fitness test to test the hard drive, I linked to this utility in “Resources”.

I have a HP Pavillion XH555 40 gig AMD 4 processor that just had Windows XP crash but when I went to reinstall the software, the bios now reads, “Internal hard drive – none”. I’ve since purchased a used Toshiba hard drive that I installed but I still got the same results, and I now have a cracked hard drive adapter to boot.
The computer has been running great and the motherboard looks fine. I don’t have anything cracked underneath, from what I’ve seen so far, but I don’t know if this is something I can fix. Did it just crash and is done?

Could be bad memory. Try reseating the memory module. If you have two memory modules installed into your laptop, remove them one by one and test the laptop with each module separately. It will help you to find out witch memory module is bad.

Hi, all can anyone help me find the fault on my HP NX 9040 laptop
I turned it on but nothing started up! , the power led was off and know hard drive activity was noticed. power supply adapter check out ok! at 18.5volts but still know ‘led’ on! or hard drive sound. can anyone help?

William Sosa, a couple of things you can try.
1) on booting press F8 and when the menu apears, choose Last Good Configuration.
2) On booting press F8 and when the menu appears go into Safe Mode, then from Start go to Help And Support and run System Restore and restore to the last working restore point.

You can damage the keyboard by taking it apart. Do you know that you can buy a new keyboard for Pavilion ZE5400 series for about $30 here? Just search for “HP ZE5400 keyboard”
I would recommend to contact the seller before buying the keyboard, just to confirm that you are buy the right one.
