I was given a used Toshiba M35X-S111, and like to know the steps to put it back to its original setting. (I have the original CDs).
Thanks, David C

David Chiu,
1. Insert the recovery disc into the DVD drive and restart the computers.
2. Press F12 as soon as Toshiba logo appears on the screen.
3. Using an arrow key select CD/DVD drive from the boot menu and press Enter. The laptop will start booting from the recovery disc.
4. Select “Load factory defaults” (of something like this, I don’t remember exactly).
5. Wait for 45-60 minutes.

I need to change the wireless card in my VGN-BX194VP. The VGN-BX manual looks really useful, but no mention is made of where the wireless card is located. I’m assuming it’s accessed by removing the keyboard. Can anyone help, please?
Thanks

Ken Barton,
Open up the VGN-BX manual and take a look at the page 16, picture 1.
The wireless card is located on the left side from the PCMCIA slot. In order to access the wireless card you’ll have to remove the keyboard and then remove the bracket (page15 - picture 1 and 2).

Want to replace the cmos battery on VGN-640W and don’t know where to look. Manual available above shows disassembly instructions, but the cmos battery location not specified.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
April 22nd, 2008 at 12:02 pm
MajorCat,
I looked at the disassembly guide but didn’t find the CMOS battery either. The pictures are not very clear. Probably it’s located somewhere on the motherboard and it looks like a 10 cent coin.

Any one know how to disassemble a TZ? i got all the screws up but was not sure how to remove the end portion of the top cover where the two drums hold the screen. need to get my hard drive replaced as the drive got bad sectors.
thanks!!
April 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
FYI
The CMOS battery on the FS-640/W was located beneath the touchpad. Access was from the bottom, once the DVD drive had been removed and half the motherboard loosed to provide access to the plug/battery, which was attached to mobo with double-stick tape.

The laptop displays the vaio image and never enters the next step, sometimes it takes a very long time to go to the next stage..
I actually want to reset the cmos of the laptop so that the system will be set to default values… to allow the system boot properly.. Can you give me more ideas on what to do…..
Thank You Very Much!!!

I have a sony VGN-FS790 aka PCG-7D1L it doen’t work anymore due to a burnt/blown capacitos(rectangular tan-ish color) The blown capaciton is located below the heatsink I’ve maganed to de-solder it and am looking for a ceramic capacitor to replace it. In the area when it is located there are 2 other capacitors to the left of it, if laptop is on table with battery location downward and cd/dvd burner to the left Numbers below this capacitor are PQ49 thou they do not goto this cap they’re just written right below it.To the left of this capacitor is two more capacitors like it and a black chip with this writing to left of that AF5AL FDS 6680A. What I need and would like some info on is the value of the capacitor so that I can purchase a replacement to solder it on and fix this sony laptop. Has anyone dealt with this type of issue? Does anyone have a service manual with laptop motherboard schematics? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

June 4th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Daniel Richardson,
All you have to do is replace the defective hard drive with a new one. After that boot your laptop for the recovery disc and reimage the hard drive back to factory defaults. Just boot from the recovery dics and follow the wizard on the screen.

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase spare parts, especially a key board and case parts for my sony vaio vgn-sz2xp/c.
I have tried to purchase spares from sony uk but they want to carry out the repair themselves, they wont even give me an estimate without charging me for the privilege.
Hope someone out there can help me.

japhet m. seguis,
Try using “Last Known Good Configurations” option from the boot menu. You can get to the boot menu if you press F8 on startup.
Also, try booting in Safe Mode. If you can boot to the desktop try using System Restore utility and revert Windows back.
