I just purchased a brand new Sony Vaio S series computer with a model number of VPCS111FM/S. I just turned it on today and found that when I plug or unplug it the screen flickers and goes black for a bit and then returns to normal. Is this ok?

I’ve seen it happening on some laptops and I don’t really like it. Normally you shouldn’t see any changes (besides maybe screen dimming) when you plug/unplug the AC adapter.
I cannot tell if it’s normal without looking at the laptop. It depends on the way it flickers. Probably it’s not normal.

What can I do to fix this?

Can you exchange it for a new one? Is it still covered by the store warranty (usually 2 weeks in the US).

I am needing to replace a dc power plug and need to find instructions for disssebbly and reassembly for my PCG-7112L. I also need the part # for the power plug.

I couldn't find the manual but new DC jacks available here.

Is it Sony Vaio VGN-SZ series laptop? Look at the screen bezel.
