toshiba laptop screen went dark after plug accidently yanked from wall. Power light, caps lock light come on, but screen stays black. Help!

My plug was accidentally pulled out of the wall, then screen had strange lightening-like flickering across the very top and very bottom of the screen, then it went completely black when re-plugged. Power light still turns on, as does “caps lock” light which stags on for a bit, then off, then on again. Can you help me get it working again? It is an old Toshiba laptop. Thank you for any help you can offer!

In reply to joy. @ joy, You've replaced the screen and installed a new cable correct? And now the image flickers when you jiggle the the 40-pin connector on the back??? It's either defective screen or bad cable. I don't know what else can cause this problem. Sorry, cannot give you a better advice without looking at the laptop.

It was a new cable, can still see the image on the screen, and the led flickers on when you jiggle the cable in and out of the 40 pin

In reply to Joy. @ Joy, Do you still have an image on the screen? How does it flicker? The backlight flickers or the image flickers? Was it a new cable or you bought a used one?

@cj2600, I have now replaced the display cable after noticing a scorch mark, after doing this now I get flickering on the screen when I jiggle the 40pin connection on the back of the screen, any help is appreciated.

In reply to Joy. @ Joy, If the new screen didn't fix it, most likely you have a problem with the motherboard of display cable. Unfortunately, you cannot tell without testing with another cable.

The original had the same screen issue, the backlight wasn’t working you could the image on the screen when a bright light was on the screen.

In reply to Joy. @ Joy, What was wrong with the original one? Maybe your problem is not related to the screen? Anyway, check the video cable connection. Make sure it's seated properly.

I just replaced an led screen on a gateway nv55so2u laptop and the backlight still doesn’t work, I can see the image on the screen using a flashlight and putting an external monitor to the laptop, what could be the problem?
