UPDATE: The site I was linking to removed all Acer manuals. I’m not sure if they will start sharing them again. I’ll keep this post alive because there are a lot of useful tips in the comments.

Anabel M. Leonor,
I am not familiar with Acer laptops and here’s a guess. From my experience, if the laptop has an internal DVD drive it cannot boot from the external DVD drive. The BIOS “doesn’t know” how to talk to the external drive because it wasn’t designed for it. You’ll have to find a new internal drive in order to reimage the hard drive.

Hi…I need help! I have an Acer ferrari 5000 that just died in my
arms today. I turned it on this morning and it froze when it got to
about 50%, (I was outside and the themperature was about 40
degrees) I tried turning it off but nothing happened, so I removed
the fully charged battery to shut it down and start over. When I
pressed the power button, it lit up for a couple of seconds and the screen looked like it was starting……but it didn’t. Any sugestions?

Stuart,
You can find it in any local computer store. You spray air inside the intakes on the button and the dust will start coming out through the openings on the side.
I know that some people successfully cleaned the heat sink with a shop vacuum (some people say you can damage the laptop by static electricity when you are vacuuming, not sure about that).
I would go with air cleaning.

Hey, I am pretty sure it is a heat related error as today it got to 75% and then shut down. Do you know where i could get the compressed air from? And do i just spray it into the air intake?
Thanks for your help

Stuart,
I think it might be heat related issue. Buy a can of compressed air or find an air compressor and blow off the heat sink through the air intakes on the bottom (of sides). See if it makes any difference.
