UPDATE: The site I was linking too removed all Acer manuals. I’m not sure if they will start sharing them again. I’ll keep this post alive because there are a lot of useful tips in the comments.

My laptop keeps switching to battery power even when it is plugged in via the mains. It usually runs on Ac power for a small while then it switches over to battery while still plugged in..any ideas?

khurram,
This sounds like a bad CD drive. I think you’ll have to replace the drive.

George Henry,
The backlight is completely off and the image is very very dark or the LCD screen just is not bright enough but the backlight works?
If the LCD just is not bright enough check the power management software. Maybe the LCD brightness is set to minimum for both AC and battery mode. Adjust the brightness and see if it helps.
In case if the backlight is completely off, you might have a hardware related issue, probably bad screen inverter.

I have an Acer Travelmate C110 Tablet and like Donna in post 141, it is as if the brightness is turned down on the LCD. I can slightly see the screen image but have no way to adjust to get it brighter. The display controls have no effect. I can plug in an external monitor and it works great.
Any suggestions on where to go for repair or replacement?
