UPDATE: The site I was linking too removed all Acer manuals. I’m not sure if they will start sharing them again. I’ll keep this post alive because there are a lot of useful tips in the comments.

PC,
Maybe Windows crashed because something went wrong with the battery or motherboard?
This is really weird problem. For some reason I don’t think this issue is related to Windows reinstallation. Sounds like a hardware related problem. Just in case, you can try reflashing the BIOS.

Mau,
It’s possible that you don’t have to unlock this connector, just push the ribbon cable into the gap in the connector.

PC,
Does it run from the battery when the AC adapter is unplugged?
Does the power LED turn on when you plug the AC adapter?

Brandi,
Sounds like the power jack related problem. Apparently, the power jack is loosing connection with the motherboard and has to be resoldered or replaced. Very common problem for different laptop brands and makes.
But before you replace the power jack, I would test the AC adapter with a voltmeter. If the power cuts off when you move the power cable, the cable has a damage inside and the adapter has to be replaced.

Bonita Williams,
Probably software related issue. When you connect through DSL, you are using Ethernet port, when you connect through dialpup, you are using the dial-up modem. It’s unlikely that Ethernet and dial-up failed at the same time.
Try using Windows System Restore utility and revert it back to the time when your Internet connection was working.

Suzie,
Have you tried attaching an external keyboard and mouse? Will it work with the external devices?
If the keyboard doesn’t work on startup and you cannot even enter the BIOS setup menu, probably you have a hardware related problem.
It’s hard to tell what is wrong.
1. Could be loose connection. I would try reseating cables on the motherboard but it means you’ll have to open up the laptop case.
1. Could be something wrong with the motherboard.
Anyway, test the laptop with an external keyboard.

It seems as though I’m not the only one who has an issue with the AC-adapter of my Acer aspire laptop (3680). I’m relieved to know that I’m not alone in having this very frustrating problem, but it does give me the idea that I shouldn’t purchase anything from Acer again. The AC-adapter is not working. Like many people, I have to shove it in hard and turn it around at different angles until the light comes on, on the front of the laptop, that lets me know it’s working. The battery is fine, and chargers when I can get the AC-adapter to work. I’ve actually had to tape the AC-adapter to the laptop to get it to work long enough for me to be able to use the laptop. I’d really like to know what I can do about it, if anything at all CAN be done. I need my laptop, and at the moment, I cannot afford to get a new one. PLEASE help.
Also, let me know why my laptop will only work in safe mode. I’m pretty sure I know what the problem is and how to fix it when it comes to that, but I wonder if anyone else is having that problem as well.
Thanks.
