So I decided to err on the side of caution and took my acer aspire 3630 to a repair shop. They called me today and said that the memory ports are damaged and to repair it will cost £270. So I think that ill just get a new one, as it doesn’t seem worth it.
    Thanks for the advice guys.

    Emile,
Test your laptop with headphones. If you headphones have sound all the time but external speakers work intermittently, most likely this problem is related to the external speakers.
If both internal and external speakers work intermittently, this could be either software related issue or something more serious, like sound card failure. Back up all personal files and reimage the hard drive from the recovery disc, it will reload the laptop back to factory defaults. If you still experience the same issue even after reimaging the hard dive, you’ll have to ship your laptop for service.
Also, find out if you have the latest BIOS version installed on your laptop. It’s possible (but not likely) that newer BIOS fixes this problem.

Hi, i’ve just bought an Acer laptop about a week ago & im already having an issue with it. Sometimes, eventhough the volume is set at a certain number or perhaps all the volume is up, sometimes there’s no sound especially when running applications like messenger. when someone signs in, sometimes i would hear & other times nothing…i even opened an application & was hitting the backspace buttom continuously..first it wasn’t making an sound but after it started to improve until it sounded as it should.. Can someone please tell me what’s going on??? Im disappointed that i’m having an issue soooo early….

    Anastasia,

but lately, it has been shutting down all by itself, all the time. Like it runs for a couple hours max and then just powers down. And twice now, it’s done it when I’m sitting here browsing the internet or something. The screen just goes black and everything turns off. Then when I turn it back down, it tells me that it was an improper shut down.

I think your laptop shuts down because of overheating. It happens because overtime the cooling module gets clogged with dust. You can fix the problem if you blow the dust off the heat sink and cooling fans. Buy compressed air and spray it inside the vents on the bottom or on the side of your laptop until all dust is gone.
For more information you can read this article.

    Anastasia Says:

Alright, so I could read through all these comments to see if anyone else is having this problem, but that would take forever. So please excuse me if this has been asked before..

I have an Acer Aspire 3680. I keep it on my desk plugged in 24/7, as if it’s a desktop computer and it’s usually always on. I just leave whatever I’m doing up, and then lock it so that you need a password to get back on so my little brother doesn’t mess with it.

I never had a problem. Occasionally when it needed Windows updates it would shut down, but lately, it has been shutting down all by itself, all the time. Like it runs for a couple hours max and then just powers down. And twice now, it’s done it when I’m sitting here browsing the internet or something. The screen just goes black and everything turns off. Then when I turn it back down, it tells me that it was an improper shut down.

I don’t know what is going on. I thought maybe I accidentally changed the settings, telling it to shut down within a set of amount of time, but no, the settings still say “shut down – never.” And I thought perhaps it was my AVG Anti-Virus, but I’m doubting that now too. Is it overheating? Do I have a virus? Is it my power cord, even though it shows that my battery is full? Or is this a common problem?

I’m just scared that I’ll be typing a paper for school and lose everything. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Followup to the post above. I see the few Acers that are designated above these posts, but the majority are pretty old. Was wondering if you had some more recent Acer models.

    Thanks again

    CJ,
I help out over at the Toshiba Notebook forum and love your disassembly list for Toshiba notebooks. Just curious if you might have something in Acer disassemblies. I recently bought a new Acer laptop and am now helping on the Acer forum and have quite a few questions about disassemblies.
    Thanks

    Gene
